Michigan lost badly to us in the dual and barely beat us in the B10 but we were handicapped by our seeds getting byes and therefore nu bonus points in round 1.

Even in the Big10 tourney  we had 4 or 5 champs to Michigan's 2 or 3

We have 5 in the NCAA Finals to 2 for UM?

For THE SHOW we look pretty dominant...no debate.

Iowa is in bad shape and even if they had their 125 pounder it wouldn't help much.

I expect we will win 4 of 5 finals plus or minus 1 🙂

 Am I missing something?

Yes you are

@southern-psu-fan did you ever see anything like it?

Every year you think to yourself, it can't any bettet. This was to be PSU rebuilding year.

Brooks. He should get the most outstanding wrestler. He beat a bronze medalist in the last Olympics.

Amazing. And Sanderson isn't going anywhere.

@t-hale Yes, Lee wouldn't have made a difference.

3 in that in the finals from Ivy Leagues.

Wrestling is so diverse in the United States. I can remember when it was not like this. Just look at the last names. You have many 1st and 2nd generations wrestling and many from the surrounding area where wrestling first started.

Anyhow, please don't take it the wrong way, but wrestling isn't a white mans sport anymore. It's very diverse, and I love it.

Hiring Sanderson was the best move PSU ever made.

Jokers? Ivy League. Grades come first and sports second. Wrestling Championships: Diakomihalis, Dake, Gabe Dean all NCAA Champions.

Rob Kolll, the coach for many years at Cornell. The son of Coach Koll former PSU wrestling coach.

Total myth, I know because I was recruited to Princeton for track. They were willing to overlook my grades because I ran fast, it happens everywhere. Ivy league schools are no different, they care about sports just as much as the next guy. They just care more about them in their own little world.

I don't think I've ever met someone more passionate about winning against their rival than when I met someone from Yale talking about beating Harvard.

Being an Ivy doesn't mean they are immune to putting sports above academics, and not being an Ivy doesn't automatically mean they do put sports over academics.

I was most confident in Lee but had us favored in all.  Boy that Lee match started out great.  It is rather amazing that Cael gets them to perform at such a high level in big matches.  Some of that has to be psychology or just the way they think.  Everybody knows they are going to win when interviewed after they win but there has to be something different about PSU wrestlers.

As far as Big 10's, I think when you get a bye you get points equivalent to a decision but the lower seeds get a match where they can getbthe points for the decision plus bonus points.  On the other hand there may be some advantage to being one match more rested.  If they had 16 teams it would be a perfect bracket but as it is the top couple seeds get byes.

Oh yeah, I meant no disrespect I know how smart the ivy teams are. Jokers is a slang but I meant in in a good way. I’m always impressed with Cornell and the other ivy teams. Sorry about that. Great night for Penn St wrestling baby another National championship. Penn St wrestling always steps up it’s game in prime time.

After a late night driving in from Detroit, I had a great time at nationals. I won't go in to match details as you can read about that on line. There is nothing like being at the event to see and talk to those that are passionate about the sport and more bent ears than a cauliflower farmer. Besides winning the title with 5 champions (loved local kid Staracci win his second in a nail biter), I chatted with former PSU coach John Fritz and brother and Bernie who was a former AA himself. I shook hands with David Carr and his brother Nate Carr Jr. There was a group of excited Michigan fans sitting behind me, at the start of the tournament they made it a point to loudly cheer for their guys but that ended pretty quick by Saturday's second session. All in all the Michigan fans though highly dissappointed, are friendly and good fans. I don't know how Cael does it but he does it year after year. I spent too much money for tickets, hotel, gas, food and beer but it was so worth it.

@roaminglion Not sure I'd call it a total myth Roam. Cornell football had to pull a few strings to get my son enrolled and play ball, because he "only" had a 94 GPA.

I’d say the goat Mr 409 was the greatest hire at Penn St but Cael was a great hire.

What is a 94 GPA? They do it out of 100 now instead of 4.0?

What  I said was it was a myth that just being an Ivy meant all the teams care about academics over sports. Which isnt true,  An ivy league school could put sports over academics just like anyone else.

Of course, that doesn't mean they all do either. What I was saying was that simply being an ivy doesn't by default mean they value academics over everything.

Not even sports, but I could go into a long talk about how Harvard values money over academics. There's even a big article about how TA's we're getting annoyed because the Professors were ordering  them to give kids better grades than they deserve because they wanted them to donate when they graduated.

Trump's son-in-law had terrible grades in high school, and daddy donated a ton of money to build a building and got in. That's not valuing academics over everything else, is it?

Of course, I'm not saying that other schools don't do this either. But but, I'm saying that the ivy's are not immune to this type of stuff.

@roaminglion 20 yrs ago, in high school, yes, they went by % out of 100. As for the rest of your post(s), I don't completely disagree. That's why I said I wouldn't call it a total myth, there are exceptions.

@southern-psu-fan lol Yes, call me a naive, stuck in the past, old man, but I truly think for most of the players, an education sure doesn't hurt. Majority of the players aren't going to hit that NFL jackpot. Never hurts to chase that dream, but ya gotta have a backup plan!
