Now, here's my take on the situation.  OSU HAS to fire Urban.  With all that's going on with the wrestling and diving programs their image has taken a major hit.  If you were an advertiser or a sponser would you want your name connected to a university that turns a blind eye to domestic abuse??

I do feel Paterno was villified to a ridiculous extent by the media, and they pushed a narrative that was ridiculous to the extent that people actually felt Paterno was guilty of what Sandusky did.  That was completely wrong and what I will defend Paterno for.

It is so hard to explain the complexities of the case on a forum, but yeah it is possible to feel JoePa got scapegoated, was treated extremely unfairly by the press and Freeh, but still feel that he should have been let go.

What I don't understand is the "law" angle.  Why do you keep going back to the law like that is the only reason anyone ever gets fired.  People get fired all the time for screwing up at their job, or lying about their job.

A head coach is a leader of student-athletes and should be a moral compass for them.  It is part of the job, to keep kids on the straight and narrow. Looking at Meyer's track record, he has a horrible record of doing that.  Kids in his Florida program ran rampant as he never held them accountable. He now lies about knowledge regarding domestic abuse and gives the excuse that he "failed to be accurate because he wasn't prepared to answer"? Really? You need to be prepared to answer truthfully?

Look, maybe you want to attack me so much because you think I'm some crazy liberal ranting on every site I know of that Meyer should be fired, signing petitions to that effect, and just doing everything in my power to make it happen.  No, that's not the case. I think that narrative has been heightened because of social media and bloggers calling themselves "journalists" and muddying the waters between what the media is and what constitutes actual news.

Like CNN, FoxNews, and MSNBC...  None of those are predominantly news channels, they are mostly opinion shows. And yes, people on opinion shows will lie and/or obfuscate the real story to further their agenda.  No question, I agree with you on that. ESPN, Yahoo! Sports, etc. has their share of OpEd pieces as well, and a lot of "opinion" type shows.

However, the media at Big Ten media days asking questions weren't opinion makers. They aren't bloggers. They are actual journalists out there trying to get quotes and report what is happening. What is news worthy. Those are the individuals who deserve the truth.

IMO we need to better define in this country what is news, and what is Op Ed or opinion shows.  Too many people get their news from opinion shows and think it's news. Hannity, Maddow, Lemon, etc. are not reporters, they are people giving you their opinion about what news has been reported.  They often leave out context, spin what has been reported, or outright lie.  I too, hate that and see your point regarding the dangers that causes.

However, as I stated earlier I do not believe those are the people who go out and gather the news (for the most part, that guy Acosta on CNN is pretty bad.  He should just go away IMO) I think going down the road of not being honest with reporters is bad for the country, we should hold the people leading our country/companies/kids accountable. Whether or not that means firing Meyer, you and I disagree.  I think together with his troubling history of letting things go, he should be fired. You obviously don't.

I believe that there are two sets of "facts." Meyer wasn't lying at that presser, he was just providing "alternative facts" to the reporters . LOL

I think there is a 50/50 chance that he keeps his job. OSU is more worried about their image than Myer is worried about his. This will not help with the other stuff going on with athletic department, so OSU might not like this. Meyer will have change his "core values" that he is supposedly has posted in the locker room. Obviously, honesty and respect for women will have to removed, but a little paint will take care of that. Or maybe he could add some qualifiers like these only apply to players and not coaches. Or perhaps he could just say you don't  have to be honest with reporters or anybody else that you don't like or might be listening during a live video during press conference.

OK so exactly who is a reporter today? Can't say I know of any individual or network that reports without trying to push an agenda. My opinion of the press started back during the Sandusky scandal and was reinforced during the last election.  Kinda sad but right now I have a hard time believing or trusting anyone in the press, they lost my respect back in 2012 and have done nothing to get it back.

Well I certainly hope the country and media can work towards trusting again, because our forefathers knew how important they were to a stable union
