Good to see that Christian Veilleux has found a home.  Also good to see that Pat Narduzzi (pronounced Nar-douche-chee) hasn't changed.  With all the changes in college football, fans need some predictability.  The link follows and a quote from the article is below:

Pat Narduzzi takes another apparent shot at Penn State's offense (msn.com)

From the article:  "Pitt’s “real offense” is coming off a solid season in which the passing game ranked 79th in the nation with 223.5 yards per game with 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions thrown.  By contrast, Penn State’s “one-word offense” struggled with the nation’s 46th ranked passing offense with 252.5 yards per game and just 29 touchdowns to seven interceptions."

(Author's Note:  The pronunciation was not spelled as "Nar-douche-she" to avoid a mis-gendering faux pas since apparently that is now a thing)

Poor Pattie.  He tries so hard to be relevant.  Right now Pitt's claim to fame is the 8th best recruiting class in the ACC.

The Douche certainly thinks he has nads, considering they won't be playing PSU in the near future.

The Pitt coach defended PSU when Iowa fans were accusing the players of faking injuries to stop the clock. “I know those kids and the coaches, that is something they don’t do.”

@been-there-ii  I know most of y’all disagree with me brother but we should play Pitt every year. I don’t see what it hurt’s because Georgia plays Ga Tech every year and Ga Tech goes out and also plays teams like Ole Miss. if it’s about money then Penn State needs to manage their money better. Lol

@southern-psu-fan I wouldn't mind playing them once in a while, wouldn't mind playing Syr every now and then either. Every year? If they'd have let PSU bball and other sports in the Big East, there probably still be a Big East. Water under the bridge...

@Been There II

You are 100% correct about the Big East. If PSU joined that conference, it would be a major player today.

I'm with you Southern, I don't like that we won't play them either. This "2 here, 1 there" issue is nonsense. Who cares? Play the damn game and get a rivalry back. Petition the Big Ten to let us play them at the end of the year, every year. PSU wasn't given a rival in the Big Ten, so it works out perfectly.

We already know the ACC would allow it:

  1. Georgia Tech plays Georgia
  2. Clemson plays South Carolina
  3. Florida State plays Florida

I think Pitt would do it in a heartbeat, and we should too. It obviously hasn't hurt Georgia, Clemson, or FSU any... they've all won NCs in the past 15 years.

PSU stopped playing Pitt because the belief was that it helped Penn State’s in state rival financially, get exposure, and recruiting PA kids.

Which is a stupid reason and if true, means we're scared. I doubt it's the reason though, as I don't think anyone at PSU is worried about recruiting against Pitt. As for financial reasons, Penn State playing a game at Pitt every other year would not be anywhere close to significant enough to warrant having a concern about them getting some financial windfall from it.

Georgia and Clemson weren't worried about their rivals, why the heck would we be?

People tend to look for the bad things and often forget about this kind of stuff

They both joined seperate conferences and couldn't make the scheduling work. The reasons? Who knows and who the heck cares, it was over 35 years ago. Move on and play the damn game.

Risk-reward analysis:  If Pitt wins it makes their season, if they lose it was to be expected.  If Penn State wins it was to be expected, if we lose it blows our season.  IMO we take all the risk with no tangible reward.

So we're scared then? Are Georgia and Clemson just more willing to "risk it", or do they just understand the value of rivalry? If the reason we aren't playing them is "risk vs reward", then we're just scared.

  • It comes down to money. Period. PSU budgets for 7 home games per year. That is vital to funding PSU Athletics, not just football. It order to secure at least 7 home games per year, the nonconference schedule has to be able to accommodate. PSU needed Pitt to make 2 trips to State College for every 1 game in Pittsburgh. Pitt declined to accept that even though historically more games have been played in Pittsburgh. So, no games. I, personally, would like to see the last game of the year be Pitt on Thanksgiving weekend every year.

@lionbacker99  I agree with 99 but if Penn St is pinching money like that they need to manage their money better. Like Roam said, Georgia and Clemson and other teams play the the rivalry and make it work then so should Penn State.  We better not be scared for sure!

Please don't put words in my mouth, Roam.  I never said we're scared.  I just don't see what we get out of it other than making some fans happy.

@rip  brother, we all know it’s about money. 1 garbage game is enough for me. Play one practice game, Pitt and another P5 team like Alabama and that would definitely make the fans happy lol

I'd go for that, Southern.  I think I'd substitute ND for Pitt though.  Now there's a real rivalry, around these parts anyway.

I never said that YOU said we're scared, sorry if you thought that. What I did say is IF Penn State is looking at Pitt and is worried about helping them recruit... then yes, that's being scared.

@lionbacker99 To your point, both the ACC and SEC only play 8 in conference games per year... therefore have more wiggle room to schedule an OOC rivalry game. Probably why you only see it being done by those conferences I guess.

I'm not concerned about the effect on recruiting and I would hope the powers to be at PSU aren't either.  I just don't think there's anything to be gained by beating Pitt and everything to lose (as far as getting into the playoffs) if we don't.  Just my opinion though.

@rip But how is it different from playing any other Power 5 team then? Would you rather play a puff OOC?

With 12 teams in the playoff, I don't think any team with a change to win a National Title should be concerned about a mid-tier rival beating them. Regardless, even if we were that good it most likely doesn't do anything if we're in a Big Ten Championship anyway.
