Here is a quote from our esteemed HC (OC?) following the Rutgers game:
"When Beau would come into the game, they have to respect the zone read. It changes how you call the game defensively. There's no doubt about that."
Why the f didn't we do this against OSU & Meatchicken????
I’m no fan of Jimmy but I think Yurcich was a big reason we did not see more of Beau previously.
I disagree. I find it hard to believe that a control freak like Jimmy would let anyone else decide which QB to play. IMO under Yurcich and all previous OC's (except JoMo), we were playing Jimmy ball on offense and we were yesterday until Allar got hurt. In fact, if Allar didn't get hurt I don't think Pribula would have played until mop up time, assuming we had the game in hand. Just my opinion for what it's worth.
Can we beat Michigan St without throwing a pass? Y’all know me I just want to get out with a win lol
@psu61 He can throw and i thought they did everything possible to let him get some confidence built up. I may have thrown a few more passes but I’m sure James Franklin wanted to get out with a win. I understand y’all frustration but remember, James Franklin has to answer for losing games and we don’t. The dude has a lot of pressure on him as it is he loses to Rutgers it get 10 times worse. Just get the win and worry about next week….next week in practice.
Pribula did throw a pass and he completed it for a 9 yd gain, lol. He was 1 for 1 which is a 100% completion rate! I remember the good old days under JoePA, We were thrilled when we had a 50% passer, but we has the horses running in the I that got the job done!
Not sure who all here went to the the game Saturday, and not sure what you all saw on TV, but when BP came in, the WHOLE demeaner of that team changed on a dime!! I took my niece to the game, she has little football knowledge, but she will be a Fr next year at PSU with hopes of making the Blue Band. SO, her focus was more on the band and and not so much on the game...LOl Although, I did have her engaged most of the second half and she was into it. The funny thing was, she said to me. Wow, they look better and much more interested ever since that new QB came in.
I am not saying Allar is not the better of the two, but you could see the difference - and it was significant - when BP was taking the snaps. In between plays, and during the Rutgers 10 or so injury TO's, the offense had a whole different mojo vs when Allar was in....almost like they thought they were good. After 10 games, good OC or not, Allar should be further ahead than he is. Maybe he was peaking in High School? Who knows, but he just doesn't seem to have that killer instinct in him and by now, one would think he would be turning the corner and he just isn't. I think they should start BP Friday night and see what he has to offer! What? Do wait until he transfers and then is a starting Pro QB or should we see what his game is now?!!!
GO STATE!!!
I dont want a coach worried about losing to Rutgers because his seat would get hot. I want a coach that does what he needs to do for the team to get better.@psu61 He can throw and i thought they did everything possible to let him get some confidence built up. If he's scared of losing to Rutgers, that is pathetic.
@roaminglion your job isn’t on the line so it’s easy for you to have that opinion. James Franklin’s job is to win football games regardless if the wins are pretty. What have you got against just winning the game? That’s all Joe Paterno cared about. James Franklin’s goal today is winning 11 games and I’m quite sure that’s the players goal as well. Michigan and Ohio St is water under the bridge until next year. Barry Switzer dominated Nebraska with a 12-5 record and Tom Osborne was just like James Franklin..try again next year and then 2 teams had equal players. Tom Osborne didn’t win anything until the shit hit the fan at Oklahoma and he didn’t win shit until Switzer was out at Oklahoma and it was a few years after that.
I didnt say I am against winning, I said I am against a coach being "scared" to lose. Eff that. Nope.@roaminglion your job isn’t on the line so it’s easy for you to have that opinion. That is the entire problem with Franklin. He coaches not to lose. You love Saban, right? You think he ever cared that he might lose his job if he made the wrong decision? Was he worried pulling his starting QB? Does he not let his backup QB throw??? Nope. If you are on the team, if you do it in practice... why are you there if you cant do it in a game?
And that's a BS take that "it's not my job on the line". So what? Football isnt the only job where you can get fired for tough decisions. I've had to make tough decisions in my career too... what I wouldnt get is 70 million dollars for getting fired. So excuse me if I dont have sympathy for a guy possibly getting fired if he's receiving 70 million for it.
@roaminglion I agree with some of what you said but getting a job like he has at Penn St if it doesn’t work out he might not get another job this good. I should’ve said it’s easier for fans but since we were having the discussion is why I said you it wasn’t anything personal I know people have tough decisions in their life. IMO the goal is to win and if I’m playing with a backup QB I’m doing everything possible to just get out with a win. We both know if James Franklin loses that game Saturday heat will be all over him so why take a chance.
I think Franklin’s seat is already “hot” regardless. 6 OC’s in 10 season is probably indicative of a bigger problem and we aren’t a marginal B10 program like Maryland or Rutgers where 10-2 and a NY6 would be amazing. The fan base has witnessed sustain success at OSU and of late watched UM elevate as well and I believe everyone knows PSU has the resources to elevate to the elite level as well. So what’s the variables holding us back if we have all the tools? I believe a lot of people think it’s coaching and play calling. Do I think there’s a Kirby Smart around every corner? No but I don’t think Franklin can get them over the hill. A lot of the fan base and administration probably want more than 3rd best especially when this season felt different with momentum of a Rose Bowl victory and NFL style 5 star QB. I don’t know where we go from here because I don’t think this offense can beat any team other than Tulane in a NY6 bowl. I’ve been long winded but I’d say Franklins clock is ticking.
@kularrow . Georgia, Alabama, Michigan, Ohio St today are the only team we’ll struggle to beat. Texas, Washington and Florida St we can beat. Alabama ain’t the same team as when the season started their QB is a stud. He struggled when the season started but he’s got so much better. I believe Mileoe or the Daniel’s kid from LSU should win the heisman. We recruited the wrong style QB and you could see it when #9 was on the field. Smh
IMO, and I hate to say it, next year it gonna tell you where this program is and you can say what you want but UCLA, USC, WI, OSU, WA and maybe MD could be losses if JF doesn't get the right OC in and Manny bolts. Bringing in UCLA, USC, and WA presents a different dimension regardless of what folks want to say about the PAC defense because if you don't have an O to exploit that D, it doesn't matter. IMO, JF is either gonna show up or ship out next year. It'll be interesting to see how it shakes out with the new AD, Kraft.
8/31 at West Virginia
9/7 Bowling Green
9/14 Bye
9/21 Kent State
9/28 Illinois*
10/5 UCLA*
10/12 at USC*
10/19 Bye
10/26 at Wisconsin*
11/2 Ohio State*
11/9 Washington*
11/16 at Purdue*
11/23 at Minnesota*
11/30 Maryland*
And it very well could be that the admin is fine with consistent 10-2 money and maybe an off year at 7-5 to regroup.
I believe Washington loses their QB and USC, Wisconsin and UCLA stink. Man 61 I’d hate to wake up and see what you see in Penn St football lol guys, we’re only losing to Michigan and Ohio St. 61, you feel like I did when I woke up the next day after we lost to Toledo years ago. I felt so bad I thought the rapture of the church happened and I got left behind lol cheer up brother it ain’t that bad lol
Nope, I'm a realist. Bringing in those teams from the Pac 12 is a different dimension from playing to recruiting to coaching. Some coaches are just adaptable and hit it front on, some others not so much. I'll be up front, I have no confidence in JF's ability to put together a top notch O, none. The only way that happens is if hires the right OC and gets the fuck out of the way, but I don't think he can get out of his own way when it come to O. And his game day decision making is a puzzle that has finally been put together.
I think he is a good coach to a certain level and appears to be a good man but I think you're either satisfied with what you got going forward or you gotta try something different at this point.
@southern-psu-fan I wish I could agree with you but I don’t see this team beating Ole Miss or Missouri right now offensively.
Down the road I believe it will be a tough schedule but USC and UCLA stink and i don’t know how good Washington will be with their starting QB going to the NFL. We’ve made our bed with the QB situation now we have to lay in it but it’s still good enough to beat every team out there except the ones I mentioned in the last post. Ugly wins are better than pretty losses. James Franklin will get a good OC he got Manny didn’t he. It’s a first year QB but he’ll get better.
Ole Miss definitely ain’t good enough on defense to beat us and Missouri might be a tough game but we would win the game. IMO they’re on the same playing level as Utah.

It’s called reality and not letting blind loyalty skew our thought process like it does to you.
@psujoe Homer, we haven’t lost a game to a team outside the top 5 in 2 year and we’ve only lost to Michigan and Ohio st. It’s not as bad as y’all are thinking.
