I want the kids punished to if they know better.

I don't want them punished for something that's legal for them to do.

I'll wear a bullseye with this comment - Whatever happened to playing for the love of the game and dear old Alma Mater?

That went away when everyone started making ton of money except the players. Dear old Alma Mater started using those kids images to make bank, so why is it so out of bounds for the kid to make bank on their own likeness?

And I will add this: Making endorsement money doesn't mean you love your school any less than the next guy.

And I’ve always said with the coaches making millions it will cause problems and it has. Now I’m all the these athletes having some spending money but it’s above my pay grade to decide how much.

I thought dear old Alma Mater was providing the kids a free education, room & board & incidentals in exchange for their representing the institution in intercollegiate athletic competition.  If the kids want anything more than that they need to go pro.  If they're not happy with the opportunity to get a free college education, they should forego the scholarship and not play college ball.

They are... but why does giving someone free stuff allow you to tell them that they aren't allowed to sign a contract with Nike? How does a scholarship at your school entitle you to deny them that opportunity?

We give academic scholarships out all the time, and no one tells those kids they aren't allow to go make money.

That's why I say make it a rule that schools aren't allowed to give money to kids, not that kids can't accept any money whatsoever.
