Interesting tidbit, because I know he's getting the label of can't win big games from some people. Looking into it, he's only lost 8 games in his HC career. 4 of those games came to National Champion. 2 more came against a team that played in the NC game. The other 2 were in his first year. That's it.
Outside of that, he has 9 wins against top 15 teams, 4 of which were top 5 teams.
James Franklin he is not.
He’s definitely won more big games than James Franklin but he’s been given everything on a silver platter to win a NC and he ain’t got it done but he’s still has plenty of time.
He may have more wins than JF but considering the higher level of resources he’s no better. I’ll give him 3 years to win an NC or he’ll be fired. If the freaks and weirdos don’t win it this year his seat will start to heat up.

Lanning doesn’t have JF to kick around anymore. How long you think he’ll last without a NC?
@psujoe IMO with the QB’s Oregon has had they’ve underperformed. I still believe Ryan Day would’ve been fired had Ohio State lost in the playoffs the year they won the NC that loss to Michigan would’ve got him. Coach Day deserves all the credit because he got the team to wake up in the playoffs and Ohio State won the NC but that dude was in trouble after that Michigan loss. Ohio State didn’t have anything to lose letting him finish the playoffs and it worked out perfectly letting him finish the season. JF ass should’ve been fired after the ND loss I seen last year coming from a mile away!
I didn’t believe we’d lose to UCLA and NW I just knew it was time to cut ties with JF.

@been-there-ii I don’t like my team having coaching changes because it sets you back a year or 2 most of the time. I believe Coach Day beating Oregon to make it in the NC game probably saved his job but winning the NC definitely saved his job. James Franklin did a great job his first 4 or 5 years I started losing confidence in him during the 2021 season after watching the backup QB’s when Clifford went down. Manny Diaz and Tom Allen done a great job with the defense them 2 dudes especially Manny were home run hires and extended James Franklin time at Penn St for a few more years. You could see it wasn’t working on beating the heavyweights.

No doubt in my mind that Day would have been fired if they didn’t win the NC. IMO unless Oregon wins it in the next couple years Lanning’s seat will be on fire. They have everything in place to win it this year so we’ll see what happens.
I have about as much interest in CFB as I do the NFL right now which is not much at all. I knew that paying players would not be a good thing and it has now completely destroyed the sport we all love. I also don’t forsee PSU doing well in this current model as the sport will be dominated by the corrupt and the greedy which is something we have never been. Buying championships is something PSU fans never have done nor ever will do.
I’m very close to being completely disconnected from this sport and probably the only ventures I’ll make towards State College this fall will be with my fly rods mounted to the roof and gear in the back of my car.

Indiana is outspending us in NIL by 8 million this year and is the 4th highest spender in the B1G behind Oregon, OSU and USC so we can officially end all this talk about them not paying players.
I’m thinking this year since we got all the players from Iowa St we probably didn’t need to spend as much because the players we got are seasoned players ready to play today.
