But seriously, I don't remember being optimistic and/or enthusiastic during the lead-up to the season over the past few years. However, last year turned out to be better than I expected because of the coaching change. I am hopeful that Coach Campbell and his staff have put together a cohesive Team of student-athletes who will represent the university, students, fan base, and themselves admirably.
Author's Note: Time has passed, the weather has changed, and stuff has happened. My memory is not what it once was.
The dudes from Black shoes and locked on are still worried about the WR’s and are still blaming the WR’s for the last few years. We’ve had 12 bad WR’s the last 3 years lol. WR’s were never the problem and I’m very confident that we will see a very good offense this season and this team will make some noise baby. Jim Knowles is gone, James Franklin is gone and Rocco is in the house my brother it’s a good time for Penn St football playoffs are on the way! 😁🇺🇸🍺🏈
WR's were one of the problems, but not for lack of talent. There was a steady drop in WR production when we hired that god awful WR coach for whatever reason. Today the dude on locked on said Koby Howard is looking great and both QB’s looking great and Alex Manski looking the best. This was based on practice yesterday..I believe we good at QB and WR. Both QB’s have good arms and can get the ball down field. I’ll try and find that clip and put it on here.
Don't want to be a Danny Downer, Southern, but I've been fooled by "practice stars" before! I'll keep my enthusiasm in check unil I see them play in a game.
One thing I am confident about this season is that the players are going to be coached well and the player development is going to be outstanding...My only fear is the talent level...There is only so much coaching up a staff can do...Everything I have heard and am hearing is this guy Campbell's claim to fame is scouting and player development...I believe during the Franklin era he had top talent but lacked the ability to develop the talent he had and in some cases the players regressed or at best stagnated...As all of you know from my pontificating that I am a HUGE proponent of scouting and player development...That is what I am hanging my hat on with this team...If this guy is what they say he is I am excited for this season...I am expecting players to be developed and improve along with the most important thing of all...Putting them in a position to succeed...We are going to find out when USC comes to town...That game is a biggie and will set the tone for the season...
@the-funeral-director talent won’t be a problem we got the top 20 players from Iowa St and added them to the studs at Penn St. what MC did bringing his top 20 seasoned players is a gift that all coaches wish they could get. With NIL and the transfer portal it’s keeping guys healthy is what most coaches are worried about. We’ve been watching a shit show on offense for so long we’ve forgot what it’s like to see an offense click. Look how excited everybody was on here after James Franklin was fired and Grunk was throwing the ball after he got his feet wet. The day we played Clemson that team was clicking on all cylinders and ain’t a team in the country that could’ve beat us. Last year was the biggest fudge up I’ve ever seen in college football that teams was stacked with talent. Just imagine had KA and Singleton had played in the Clemson game even if Clemson was at full throttle we still stomp ‘em. What a waste FD.
Two things I want to get better, one was the past couple seasons and the other just about always...
1. The passing game needs to get better. WRs were a huge problem, not because of talent... but the coaches (HC & WR coach) and QB play.
2. The main one: Stop dying at the end of big games. I think you all know this one, as it happened over and over again under Franklin. Big game, get a lead, then lose the lead, and watch stupid decisions and tentative playcalling blow it. Rinse repeat.
to your points Roam...#1...I expect a MUCH better passing game under this regime...I believe they will develop players and put them in positions o succeed...#2...I don't expect the coaching stupidity and piss poor in game decision making that we endured under the previous administration...I am hopeful...

Here we go again. Neb and Tenn are cherry picking the 2028 pa recruit Flemming. MC/PK seems to have lost control of recruiting. BTW, Tenn nil $45M PS nil $33M. Any guess where flemming will end up?
As of now he is committed to Penn State...As a matter of fact he is Penn State's first commit in the 2028 class...The latest news I have seen on him is from July 28, 2026 so unless I am missing something he is a Penn State commit...So as far as I know he has made his decision...As we all know these kids flip and flop all over the place so we will find out next year if he holds...My suspicion is if Penn State wants him he will be at Penn State...
He’s attending the Washington-Nebraska game at the end of October. He’ll go where the money is, and I don’t fault him at all. Just saying, if you want to play with the dogs, get the check book out.

2028 IS the future! Campbell gets a pass for 2026 and 2027, but no more. Either he can keep the best or there is a problem. Not spun up, just trying to be realistic about our long term future.
