Pass protection was fine, the OL wasnt the issue.Remoh, playing a pocket QB at Penn St when you know we’ve struggled at OL for 10 years would be like playing a TE at the WR position.
@roaminglion I didn’t watch the game but I heard we were 0-15 on 3rd down. If that’s true I don’t know how you don’t have OL problems when I’ve seen this year we’ve had OL problems.
Again, I didn’t watch the game but 1.9 yards per rush and 49 rushing yards smells like OL problems when we have 2 future NFL RB’s
4 sacks & 49 rushing yards would lead one to believe there are major OL problems.
All I needed to hear was "I didnt watch the game"Again, I didn’t watch the game but 1.9 yards per rush and 49 rushing yards smells like OL problems when we have 2 future NFL RB’s
Then you dont know. It wasn't the OL
@roaminglion as RIP posted above. 4 sacks, 1.9 yards per rush 49 total yards on the ground 1 for 16 on 3rd down with 2 NFL future RB’s? What was the problem then?
The problem was the passing game...@roaminglion as RIP posted above. 4 sacks, 1.9 yards per rush 49 total yards on the ground 1 for 16 on 3rd down with 2 NFL future RB’s? What was the problem then?
WRs couldnt get open, Allar holding the ball too long, and when they were open his timing accuracy was way off.
When that happens, the oppsing defense just stacks the box and shuts down the run game. Pure and simple. Stats arent the end all be all of explination, they are a piece of the puzzle.
When teams arent scared of your passing game and can put as many guys in the box as they want... your run game will suffer. Been like this all year, we just were able to overcome it until yesterday
The OLine isn't the problem this year...They used some formations and ran the ball with success and then just stopped...The problem ain't the QB, Ain't the OLine, Ain't the RB's, Ain't the WR's, Ain't the TE's...The problem is the coach...I don't wanna hear the WR's can't get separation...If that is the case then use formations and motion to get em open...Bunch up formations and run rub routes to get em open...The middle of the field was wide open the whole game yesterday from 5 to 10 yards from the line of scrimmage...I didn't see that idiot OC run one crossing route from a bunch formation to rub a guy open...How about the TE's? Non existent yesterday except for a play or 2...I blame the OC...Sorry but he is calling the plays and designing the offensive scheme for the game...I have never been a fan of this guy but he is supposedly a guru...I ain't seen anything from this guy since he's been here...The truth is I haven't seen an OC with any imagination at Penn State since Moorehead was here...I am sick and tired of the excuses...There was and is no excuse for what went on in that game yesterday...Forget the defense...The defense played a great game as far as I am concerned...You hold any team of that caliber to 20 points and you did something in today's game...Add on the fact that the offense was non existent and they were on the field most of the game says to me that was a tremendous effort...Yesterdays debacle lies strictly at the feet of the OC and HC as far as I am concerned...An absolute disgrace and I am telling ya if they come out with that rinky dinky scheme against Maryland they are gonna get their heads kicked in...But the OC has to go...I am done with that guy...
@southern-psu-fan Tight ends may be more productive than some of the WRs at this point. Trouble is, we seem to forget the TEs for a game or two at a time.
@the-funeral-director "year...They used some formations and ran the ball with success and then just stopped"
Because the defense adjusted and started stacking the box. It aint rocket science, OSU committed to stop the run because they knew we couldnt pass
@the-funeral-director Joe Moorhead had McSorely the kind of QB I’m talking about. You do remember McSorely running for first downs and moving the chains, right?
@roaminglion You are correct...the defense made the adjustment to take it away and as a result the middle of the field 5 to 10 yards off the line of scrimmage was wide open...Slide a TE or rub off a WR and drag him across the middle and take advantage of it...They never make any adjustments...This OC is terrible...He needs to go...
@southern-psu-fan This kid is a fine QB...The OC sucks plain and simple...He does nothing to put this kid in a position to succeed...The problem with this offense isn't the personnel it's the coach...The personnel is there to have a fine offense...This coach doesn't know how to put them in a position to succeed...He needs to go...The truth is I was never a fan of this guy...He is supposed to be some guru but to me he has no imagination and has no idea what an adjustment is...With the talent this guy has at his disposal he is underwhelming...It's the same ole shit every big game...defense plays terrific and the offense sucks hind teet...I am sick of it...I am sick of the excuses...Get rid of this guy he is terrible...
I am going to add another thought to my response...This kid is a 5* QB and they aren't doing anything to develop this kid...I have seen no improvement...He looks worse now than he did in the beginning of the season...His footwork is hectic...He is developing happy feet and on his throws early in the game he wasn't setting, planting and stepping into his throws...Once again this is a coaching problem not a personnel problem...There has to be an OC out there that has a little bit of imagination and who is able to make adjustments to a gameplan and scheme during the ballgame...I don't know who is out there and available but this guy has to go...From a talent standpoint Penn State had the superior personnel in my opinion...There is no way on earth that they should have been shut down like that...This is on the OC and it is time for him to go...
So it's the OC's fault Allar sucks on the road? Really? You think he just brain farts a game plan when it's a road game? Like somehow his game plans allow Allar to throw for practically 80% at home, but only 50% on the road when he can't hit the broad side of a barn? You think that's the "game plan"???@southern-psu-fan This kid is a fine QB...The OC sucks plain and simple...He does nothing to put this kid in a position to succeed...The problem with this offense isn't the personnel it's the coach...The personnel is there to have a fine offense...This coach doesn't know how to put them in a position to succeed...He needs to go...The truth is I was never a fan of this guy...He is supposed to be some guru but to me he has no imagination and has no idea what an adjustment is...With the talent this guy has at his disposal he is underwhelming...It's the same ole shit every big game...defense plays terrific and the offense sucks hind teet...I am sick of it...I am sick of the excuses...Get rid of this guy he is terrible...
All I'm going to ask is this... You think do you think our OC just got lucky developing Mason Rudolph, Justin Fields, and Sam Ehlinger? They all got better under him. Do you think he had zero to do with all those QB's getting better? Just wondering why those guys all got better but the OC isn't good at development?I am going to add another thought to my response...This kid is a 5* QB and they aren't doing anything to develop this kid...I have seen no improvement...He looks worse now than he did in the beginning of the season...His footwork is hectic...He is developing happy feet and on his throws early in the game he wasn't setting, planting and stepping into his throws...Once again this is a coaching problem not a personnel problem...There has to be an OC out there that has a little bit of imagination and who is able to make adjustments to a gameplan and scheme during the ballgame...I don't know who is out there and available but this guy has to go...From a talent standpoint Penn State had the superior personnel in my opinion...There is no way on earth that they should have been shut down like that...This is on the OC and it is time for him to go...
The run game was fine until OSU realized we had no passing game at all.@roaminglion as RIP posted above. 4 sacks, 1.9 yards per rush 49 total yards on the ground 1 for 16 on 3rd down with 2 NFL future RB’s? What was the problem then?
@roaminglion I could give a rip about those other 3 guys...He ain't developing this guy...He is doing a terrible job as the OC in my opinion...I have seen nothing from this guy since he got here...As a matter of fact I think the kid is regressing...His footwork is worse now than it was at the beginning of the season and that is why he is missing throws...Every year there is an excuse for this guy...This year the excuses are gone...I would fire his rear end ASAP...I have seen enough of him...
@roaminglion Again...No imagination in the play calling, formations or scheming to help the kid out...The great coaches put their players in a position to succeed and this guy doesn't do that...It is obvious this kid is still growing and adjusting...On the road he gets amped up...So you design plays early on to settle the kid in and get him into a rhythm...They had a couple of good running plays with Singleton based on a formation and position grouping...So you know if this works a couple times they are gonna react to stop it...So common sense tells ya to run a play based on them bringing a backer or safety up to stop that based on their defensive formation and exploit what they are doing to stop that play...This guy has no imagination...Sorry but I would fire his rear end ASAP...He is a big problem...I never was a fan and based on his performance HERE which is terrible he would be gone...
Well we did have a few running plays that worked with Singleton base on a formation Homer...They schemed to stop it and the OC never ran a play out of that formation to counter it...A Tight End up the seam or a drag route or anything...This guy may be the greatest OC to ever grace a football field but he ain't getting it done here...Whether it is a bad fit for him or whatever but in my opinion he sucks...It's really a shame to waste this defense and the offensive talent we have because this guy has no imagination and has no ability to make adjustments...I can't imagine he keeps his job after this season...If they play like this against Maryland they are gonna get beat...No way they beat Michigan with the way this offense is playing...This very well could be an 8-4 season unless they get right and in a hurry...I don't see it from this OC...From my vantage point they need to change some personnel groupings, input some formations and implement some motion to help these guys get open...Exploit these teams by releasing some TE's up the seam and get vertical...They certainly have the TE's to do it...With the TE group they have run some 12 and even 13 formations and utilize the TE's more if the WR's are that bad...my personal opinion is the WR's aren't the issue...I think the formations and the routes they are calling for these kids to run is the issue...I can tell ya what they are doing now ain't working...And this OC should be fired IMMEDIATELY...
All I'm going to ask is this... You think do you think our OC just got lucky developing Mason Rudolph, Justin Fields, and Sam Ehlinger? They all got better under him. Do you think he had zero to do with all those QB's getting better? Just wondering why those guys all got better but the OC isn't good at development?
To above quote^: Hard to say how much MY had to do with Fields or Ehlinger's development considering he was at each stop only 1 year. Regarding Rudolph, Gundy was the HC and I always heard that he was the QB guru at OkSt.
Folks, it’s hard to beat top 5 teams like Ohio St on the road when they have better players and that’s the honest to gods truth.
@the-funeral-director You can blame the offensive coordinator but it doesn't change the fact that these same issues have been recurring for most of the years that this head coach has been here.
We won’t have Manny Diaz next year.
And the really bad news is that other than linebacker it's starting to sound like the defense will lose a lot to the draft and graduation and will almost be a total rebuild next year.
I don't know if I'm ready to fire Yurcich just yet. Maybe give him the benefit of the doubt and get his arse out of the press box and back down on the sideline where he belongs. Maybe if he's closer to the action and accessible to the players he can get a better feel for what adjustments need to be made. I don't know what prompted the move to the press box, but I just don't think it's working out. I think his scheming and play calling was a lot better last year. Also, with the problems Allar has been having, he could be more effective dealing with these issues face to face as opposed to over a headset!
