Okay, not a rage post but still... tipping is just getting out of hand. At Starbucks, the barista's entire job is to make coffee. Nothing else, not provide friendly and timely check-ins, not to bus tables, nothing... just make coffee and hand it to me. Yet... tip? For what, doing the bare minimum of your job?
Food trucks... I'm already overpaying for a sandwich or hotdog, now I am expected to tip because... food?
Fast food? Now there's tip jars at effing McDonald's? WTF?
It's baffling to me, that this generation always talks about big corporations as evil, money grubbing companies who don't pay well... but yet they perpetuate the notion that we should let these companies not pay them a good wage and tip instead. I've always hated the notion of tipping (and when I was younger, worked in the service industry where I received tips), but was able to bear it because a waiter or waitress does go a bit above and beyond to serve you. However, now it's like "pay me more for doing my job description", I freaking hate it.
Just pay them regular wages. Stop the nonsense, I've been to Europe several times and the waiters and waitresses there are perfectly fine at their jobs with no expectation of tips. It's just not necessary. It's stupid.
@roam
Finally I agree with 100% of your post.
I honestly don’t know what it’s like today but back in the day waitress and waiters only made like $3.50 and hour plus tips so in sit down restaurants you tip 15% to 20%. McDonald’s and other fast foods payed like $5 an hour and they didn’t get tips. Everywhere you go now especially if you’re paying with a credit card has tips on it. Before long the auto parts stores will be wanting tips lol. I usually only eat Starbucks, Chick-fil-A and subway and I do tip some at Starbucks and subway because both businesses I shop at take good care of ole southern baby. McDonald’s employees make $12 to $15 bucks an hour I ain’t tipping them shit because I usually get nothing but a bad attitude when I do break down and eat there. Did I spell payed right or is it paid lol
I don’t think payed is a word so it’s definitely paid lol
McD's pays $15/hr here in NY. Back in the day, my 1st job paid $1/hr, 10 cents/hr bonus if you stayed the whole season. Of course that was 55 yrs ago.
Tipping is stupid, there are actually studies that show sexual harassment went down 65% when it was eliminated and waitresses were paid a standard wage. That's just one reason I want it gone.
The biggest thing that pisses me off are the people who say the service will go down if tipping is gone. NONSENSE. If Chik-fil-a can have people happy and nice as pie greeting me and making my food, so can a diner that's paying their waiters/waitresses well. The Home Depot people aren't getting tips, but they usually go out of their way when I need to find something or have a question. All of Europe doesn't tip, the service is still fine there too.
You want to know what's a big scam? Automatic tipping. Why? Because it's not a tip... the IRS considers it a service fee. RAAARGGGHHHHH
I recently went to a Taco Bell drive through and before the kid taking my order told me what I owed he asked if I’d like to donate to his college tuition fund.
And then there’s the stores that ask if you’d like to contribute to some sort of charity. They get gullible people to contribute and then at the end of the year they make a huge contribution so they can get a tax break.
@psujoe I’m more worried about what they’ll do to your food if you say no if you don’t have eyes on ‘em.

That’s a good point, I never thought about what they may have done to my food.
After I told him no he actually said “that’s ok I still like ya”
i didn’t do it but the next day I had thoughts of calling the manager.
There's a speedway gas station that asks if you want to donate and round up if you are using the debit card. Some kind of charity . I always hit NO. I find that hard to believe. The dollar you donate probably goes to the owner.
Tip your driver or pay the price: DoorDash warns delivery delays happening with no tip
Just saw this. I wish I could put the article up but I can’t. I remembered us talking about it a month ago. Roam, your tight ass better be leaving tips lol
@southern-psu-fan lol I know your were just bustin' Roams balls, but that's a whole different animal SPF. What I can't wrap my head around, is the places that ask for tips, when the person did absolutely nothing but ring you up on the cash register. That's akin to me asking for a tip for buying something at their establishment. hmmm I may be on to something.

Lol….more tipping news lol
Or how about the garbage man that leaves a note on the tote at Christmas telling you how many kids he has etc. etc. They make damn good money & they don't even have to get out of the truck.
Ironic because that note goes right where it belongs... in the garbage.Or how about the garbage man that leaves a note on the tote at Christmas telling you how many kids he has etc. etc. They make damn good money & they don't even have to get out of the truck.
