From my understanding this can get ugly for everyone. That includes the UAW workers, layoffs, dealerships, supply chains.
I agree with the raise but I don't agree with the 4 day work week. I searched UAW wages and Google is telling me 18-32 per hour. In today's world 18 dollars an hour doesn't cut it.
I don't begrudge anyone a raise. But yeah, sign me up to work 32 hrs and get paid for 40. Counting on my fingers and dividing by my toes, sounds like 20% increase in pay, for a 20% decrease in productivity. Haven't looked at the proposal closely, does OT kick in after 32 hrs?
Don’t hold me to this but a dude I listen to Erick Erickson says all the demands they want is just not there and it will bankrupt the 3 big automakers. He also said the union big dawgs screwed the workers being paid off and getting the workers less than what they could’ve got ‘em. Just all depends on who you want to believe. He also said some of ‘em went to prison for what that worth.
Hmm. Now it sounds like 4 ten hour days from different source. Southern, I don't think it will bankrupt the car industry.
Do you see what the MSRP is on a fully loaded truck? 75 thousand dollars and in 5 years they start rotting away. Would you like to have a look under my truck?

Just popped in to say this, other industries have workers asking for a 4 day work week as well. Every time, they ask for 10 hour days to compensate for 1 less day. So no loss of hours whatsoever.
IMO as long as the work still gets done, who cares? The only question is would productivity per day fall because of longer daily hours

Nope, still a 40 hour work week. Just 10 hour days instead of 8 hour days
@forum-titan maybe they can I’m just telling ya what Erick Erickson said. All that shit is way above my head snake lol

Erikson has also stated we should install Pinochet type leaders in Central America to stop immigration, and called a Supreme Court justice a child molester... So I'd take whatever he says with a grain of salt. LMAO.
@roaminglion Maybe I'm not up to speed, but NBC was broadcasting a 32 hr week for 40 hrs pay too.
@been-there-ii I’d love a 4 day work week 12 hours a day would be perfect.
@southern-psu-fan I was talking to one of my farming friends that "retired", he said he's really loving only working 12 hrs a day. lol
I'd have been happy w/ 4X10 hrs, when I was working my paying job. Trouble was, it was regularly 6 or 7 days a week. Not to complain though, I did retire early....even after paying off the ex!

Wow, I stand corrected if that's true. Certainly bold, as many other places have done the 4 day work week... but not at the same 8 hour days. Interesting, thanks for sharing that Benn There II
I'm sure they will reach some kind of deal. In the end of all of this we will be stuck with the short end of the stick like always. GMC, Ford, Chrysler will just raise their MSRP's. You know, the Normal corporate way.
@roaminglion I was reading in some European countries, they went to 32 hrs for 40 hrs pay. It said there wasn't any drop in production. Of course, now I can't find that article. It was only one article, so I'm still a little suspect that there wasn't a drop in production. I can understand how 4x10, would increase production, due to the lag time most people have gearing up to work. But I'd like to see some real numbers that the 32 hr week was just as productive as a 40 hr week.
@been-there-ii my wife spends to much money for me to get cut back to 32 hours lol

Yeah, I'd be skeptical of 32 hours being just as productive... I get staying at 40 for 4 days a week but cutting hours doesn't seem like it would lead to the same weekly output. Unless, of course, it included adding some automation as well.
I also don’t believe the regular blue collar working people can afford the cars today. Have y’all noticed how much car insurance has gone up it’s double on top of a $1000 car payment and the gas $4 gallon. Or maybe I need to tell my boss woman I need more money lol. It just seems like a big bubble that’s about to pop that won’t have a good ending. The only thing I have is a house payment and this stuff makes me nervous brother lol I heard if they get more money and everything they want the cars are going to go up even more and I’m just not seeing it for the folks I’m use to being around. Maybe it’s just me but it seems to me the cost of cars are out running people salaries and insurance cost more because the cars cost so much?
China’s exports of two rare minerals essential for manufacturing semiconductors fell to zero in August, a month after Beijing imposed curbs on sales overseas, citing national security
This is why I’ve always said, when it comes to our way of life we only need to rely on the USA or our friends for anything that’s an everyday need for our way of life. I did paste that off CNN news. I wish I could put articles here but nits won’t let me lol
@southern-psu-fan That's 'cause NITS has the ability to track the other wed sites you've been frequenting. lol They're afraid of what you'll post.
What I’m afraid of is the big car manufacturers are trying to get rid of the unions because if they do, it will have trickle down’s effects on the economy. Them are pretty much all blue collar people working at the manufacturing plants. Don’t want to sound like I care just about the blue collar people because that’s not the case, it’s just they buy most of the cars. Hopefully they get this thing figured out soon. As long as people use the restroom I’ll have a job lol
I’ve heard Ford is threatening to move its operations to Mexico.
@psujoe That’s exactly what I’m afraid of Remoh. This won’t have a good ending. I guess Tesla and Toyota is what I’ll be buying…maybe Kia
I know Toyota and Kia aren’t American owned but they are a big part of our economy here in the great USA.I’ve been driving Ford since 1988 got 3 in the driveway right now.
