Who is this guy? I LOVE the NRA but the Koch brothers are scumbags just like George Soros both are just bad people unless you agree with ‘em then people worship them.
Sheldon Adelson. Big Trump supporter. Big GOP donor. Questionable character and ethics. This article is a tidbit into his past.

He buys what he wants through GOP legislators. He has a ton of money, so people like Lindsay Graham, Jason Chaffetz, and Donald Trump are his puppets.

The NRA is nothing more than the biggest lobbying group in Washington. It hides behind your second amendment rights to push it’s own political agenda. And this is coming from someone (me) who has hunted since I was 12 and own guns myself.
99, you might be right about the Sheldon dude I don’t know who he is but from what I read I was a big time democrat but I don’t think Trump is a puppet for anybody. I know trump needs to shut up sometimes but that’s the case for all politicians. It’s one big swamp just like trump said and he’s in the mud fighting just like the rest of ‘em. At least you know where trump stands rather you like him or not unlike all the back stabbing politicians on both sides. Of course the NRA has their politics but they do fight for the 2 9mm I own. I don’t have an assault weapon but heck if I need 1 one day I want to be able to get on because you never know just look at all the $hit going on in Portland and Chicago we might need to get prepared. 99, you ain’t no AOC dude are you? Lol...BTW I want both sides fighting that way it’s like pulling teeth to get anything done exactly what the founding fathers wanted. If they move fast we’ll end up with one mind of thinking and then we’ll have another Hitler.
I’d also bet that these scumbags out there rioting are 99% left wing nut bags. I’m in the middle exactly where most fair minded people are.
Before 1970 the 2nd amendment was an afterthought, but the NRA then started to transition it's meaning into nothing more than unabridged private ownership of guns. Nothing else.
History, of course, says different though no one at the NRA cares. The 2nd Amendment reads:
“A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”
If you look at the records, it becomes clear that while writing a Bill of Rights, the founding fathers used the 2nd amendment to alleviate the concerns of the anti-federalists. These concerns were that the federal government would have too much power over state militias, so they included the Second Amendment to ensure the states could arm themselves if they so desired. While militia means something totally different today, what was meant by militia back then has essentially become the United States National Guard, which is run by the Governors of each state.
As I said, history reflects this. The Second Amendment was the least debated by Congress, with only 12 congressmen partaking. During the conversations in the House, no one ever mentioned a private right to bear arms for self-defense, hunting, or for any reason other than joining the militia. It's pretty clear that the sole intent of the provision was to give states the right to create and arm their own armies.
The other fact the NRA doesn't want you to know??? Guns were well regulated at the time!!!!!!!!!!! British loyalists were stripped of the guns and summarily disarmed if they did not swear an oath to the USA. Selling guns to Native Americans was illegal. In some cities it was illegal to store loaded weapons in your house. Many of the states actually went DOOR TO DOOR to register every citizen's gun so that if the militia needed them, they would be able to come and take them. Lastly, gun owners were even subjected to musters, where their firearms would be inspected to ensure they were well taken care of and in working order.
So... TL/DR
The NRA says they are protecting your rights as the founding fathers intended...
Things that gun owners were obligated to do in the late 1700s and early 1800s:
- Register their guns
- Have their guns inspected by government officials
- Have their guns taken away if found to be "disloyal"
- Not allowed to sell their guns to certain individuals
Yet the NRA just ignores or flat out denies these things.
we have 325 million people so that means more criminals. IMO it should be law you have to own a gun but that’s just my opinion.
@southern-psu-fan
I am a middle of the road guy. Biden, Joe Manchin, etc. I also would have possibly voted for Kasich in 2016 if the Republicans would have made a logical choice, but apparently they enjoyed the childish name calling and lying in their primaries so much they went with Trump. Trump didn’t drain the swamp. He IS the swamp. Look at the people he surrounds him self with.
As for your comment on “everyone” should have to own a guy. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, in 2017, there were 46.6 million Americans living with mental illness. Do you really want those people having a gun? I don’t. Not at all, but the NRA’s politics allow that to be a possibility which is scary. I also completely disagree with you on assault weapons. I have been around guns my entire life and own guns. It is my opinion that no ordinary citizen needs to own an assault weapon. They are not a sporting gun or for hunting. They are designed to kill people. Like Sandy Hook, Las Vegas, etc. How many innocent people have to die from mass shootings before we change our outlook on things.
As for Portland, welcome to Trump’s America. This is all happening on his watch.
Elect a clown, expect a circus.
1. We should have national gun laws, not state gun laws. To easy for someone from NYC to go down to South Carolina and buy one at a gun show as a "private purchase" with no background check. They can then bring it back up to NYC, negating any strict gun laws that city has. And please, no one tell me that doesn't happen. I've actually bought a gun at a gun show with no background check so I know it does.
2. If you want to own a gun, you need to take firearm training courses. These aren't easy 1 day things, but 3-6 months or up to a year of training and testing. We do that for cars, we should do it for guns. This would immediately get rid of impulse buyers or guys looking to get one easy. You want a gun, we're going to make damn sure you know how to use and care for it properly.
3. All new purchases are registered, and any transfers of old weapons are too. And you can't give or transfer your gun to someone who has not gone through the training.
4. Obviously a youth license program would need to be developed for this, so parents can take their kids hunting and other such things. More like a "need adult with license supervision" type thing.
Amazingly most people agree with these things, something like 85% of Americans want stricter gun laws but most often Republicans kill any bill by saying it will lead to gun bans. Every single time. Even the last Obama bill had a clause that said it was a crime to make another bill that tried to take away people's guns, but even that one they said Obama is coming for your guns. LOL
I’m glad y’all ain’t got no say so or it would be impossible to get a gun. I want it easy to get a gun because most people that buy guns are law abiding citizens criminals will get ‘em regardless and if y’all had your way about it criminals would be the only ones that had guns. Y’all ain’t drinking are ya lol
not really 99 riots were happening before trump became president but we do know it’s democrats and democrat cities that these riots happen. Most of America is just fine it’s democrat cities that’s mostly effected.
If that logic makes you feel better. Sure. And the states with the biggest coronavirus issues right now are red. But, the buck stops at the top. Ultimately, this is Trump’s America. Pandemics, poor race relations, riots, looting, near record unemployment claims. You can’t deny it. It’s happening right now.

Roam, it doesn't take 3 months or a year to learn to use and take care of a firearm. I'm thinking you may be confusing knowing how to use a firearm, with having the maturity and common sense to use/own one. To my knowledge, you can't teach maturity or common sense.
I wouldn't mind having a proficiency test to go along with handgun ownership. Shooting a hand gun w/ accuracy is much tougher than TV makes it seem.
Things my father(and others) drove home:
1. Always treat a firearm like it is loaded. ALWAYS!
2. Don't point a firearm at anything you don't intend to shoot.
3. Watch what's behind your target. If you miss or the bullet passes through your intended target, you have violated #2.
4. Once that bullet has left the barrel, you can not, not ever, call that bullet back.
99, I honestly don’t see what you see and I travel all around the SE. I see people that get along and care for each other with all races of people. Maybe in these left wing democrat cities it’s bad I don’t know but 98% of the country is just fine. I do know there is some buckle heads out there but it’s a small percentage
BT, I’m glad there’s enough of us uneducated white guys out here to keep these gun haters from gettin gun control or only the criminals would have guns lol just kidding y’all lol
@southern-psu-fan lol Gun owners are kinda like raising a dog, it's how ya bring them up. When my oldest came home from his 1st hunters safety class, I asked him what he learned. He kinda chuckled and said "If you were there, you'd have probably hit the instructor. He was swinging the muzzle all over the place, especially at front row."
You don’t see what I see? I’m confused. You constantly post about scumbag left wing rioters, then when I say it’s happening in Trump’s America, all of a sudden everyone is happy and everybody gets along. Maybe I missed something or maybe your playing both sides of the fence based on your narrative.
And for the record, I’m an educated white gun owner and lifelong hunter who thinks if you don’t have anything to hide you should be fine with sufficient background checks to prevent those guns from being legally purchased by individuals who shouldn’t have them. Nobody said anybody is taking guns away from people. That’s typical scare tactics from the NRA, Fox News, right wing propaganda machine. Unfortunately, many drink the Kool-Aid of right wing scare tactics.
99, while Pres Obama was in office, my sort of father-in-law went so far as to bury his one (1), antique (no serial #) rifle in my GFs back yard. lol So they couldn't track it back to him and throw him in jail....(but it's ok to lock your daughter up??) After Trump got into office, he decided it was safe to dig it back up. Yep, you guessed it, couldn't remember which tree he put it under. As we were poking around the woods trying to find, I asked him what it was buried in? He doesn't miss a beat and says "I wrapped it up really good in a sheet of plastic." I looked at him and said "sheet, of, plastic?" "Did ya coat it with grease or some before you wrapped it up?" No, he replies, "didn't want to have to clean it all off again when it was safe to bring it back in the house." We didn't find it that day. He says he got a metal detector and eventually found it. Though I haven't been allowed to actually see the recovered piece, he says it's a "bit weathered" now.
i know you’re a very well educated man 99, I was making a joke because the left always say it’s uneducated white men who voted for Trump and we’re the same people that are worried about the democrats taking our guns. I do ride the fence and I jump on the bandwagon on whoever wins and I’ve never denied that I pull fo whoever is in charge and right now Trump is in charge. Of course I want certain people to win but I’m not sour if my man or woman don’t win I get on that bandwagon. The bottom line is 99 you can’t deny that it’s left wing cities that are destroying $hit not republican cities plus look at the crime in these cities these punks won’t stop until you stop ‘em. You can’t debate with these scumbags because it’s their way or the highway. I still believe governor Cuomo would be a better pick than Biden because he’s younger and more alert Biden is to old and trump will eat his lunch in a debate that’s if Biden will debate him I’m not sure he will.
Wow. A bit weathered is probably an understatement.
So, I guess he buys into the scare tactics about gun control.
You really need to take information from various outlets beyond the Fox Entertainment/Misinformationchannel. They are in your head loud and clear. They only provide one perspective or agenda on things and they don’t hide or apologize for it. You know it’s funny that the same people saying Biden is too old seem to forget that Trump is nearing 75. He just went on national TV bragging about acing a cognitive screening test. It wasn’t an intelligence test as he seems to think, it was a dementia screening test. That’s a microcosm of his personality. Bragging about being able to repeat 5 words. Maybe on the surface he would appear to beat Biden in a debate, but the proof would be in the pudding for those listening closely. He has no plan or agenda in this campaign. He is in over his head. He doesn’t know how to fix things. Saying MAGA over and over has no substance without providing a plan or details. His campaign in 2016 offered hollow promises. Like the wall that Mexico will pay for. How’s that working out? It isn’t completed after four years and Mexico hasn’t paid a dime. He’s taking money from the military budget to pay for it. Your tax dollars. He promised to people of WV and Kentucky that the coal mining jobs would come back. Have they? Those people should have seen through that from day 1. My dad was a coal miner. Those jobs aren’t coming back and if they do it will be strip mining which requires far fewer human jobs. Remember when he went to Italy and insisted he and the secret service stay at his hotel which was a big distance from the site of the meeting? It cost U.S. taxpayers a lot of money for that. Who profited from it? Him? His kids? He’s spent more American tax dollars on trips away from the White House than any other U.S. President. Trips to Mar a lago, Bedminster, NJ etc. Republicans railed against Obama taking trips, but are oddly silent now.
In closing Southern, I’ll just say this. It’s obvious we have differing views on things. I respect your perspective, but I don’t understand it. You rail on rioting in Democratic cities then when I say the buck stops at the top and things in the U.S. aren’t great under Trump, you act as though it is Utopia. Ultimately, like it or not, the responsibility falls at the feet at our top elected official, the President. It took him nearly six months and 140,000 American deaths to admit maybe we should wear masks in public. He’s only saying it now because his poll numbers are plummeting. In the meantime, he made masks political and caused even more division in our society. As for the rioting, even the former Director of Homeland Security, Tom Ridge, a Republican from PA, said this week that the President is misusing federal agents and the agents are not his personal militia. He said the President needs to work closely with state and local officials to end the rioting. Trump has shown no ability or motivation to do so, and I wouldn’t expect that to change. He’ll probably call them names and hurl insults at them on twitter. The fact that he spends so much time on twitter is embarrassing. Shut up and get to work. There’s a lot of work to do. Finally, I’ll say that I encourage people to get information from multiple outlets and make your own informed decision on things. I routinely watch Fox (even though I despise their far right wing propaganda spewing phonies like Hannity, Carlson, and Ingraham) to attempt to gain differing perspectives. Sometimes, I gain info I wasn’t aware of. Sometimes, I turn it off in comedic relief or disgust, but at least I heard the other side of things. If you don’t like the rioting, then ask yourself why it started and what this President is doing to resolve it. If you don’t find a solution or adequate answers, hold him accountable. Our top leaders need to be held accountable for their actions or inactions. It’s our democratic duty. Again, I respect you and your opinions and enjoy these conversations. Have a great weekend and stay healthy and safe.
@lionbacker99 Buys into? I think he's the one that writes the stuff!
lol What I forgot to do was tie that story into SPF's stance. (old age sucks) He makes SPF look like a moderate.
i understand your feelings about the far right but you never mention the far left which is much worse. Again 99, the people that hate and can’t be reasoned with is from the left not the far right. The far left are the people destroying $hit I bet if it was your stuff being destroyed you’d feel different and these same scumbags are attacking both sides if you disagree with ‘em. I watch Fox News and CNN and I listen to NPR on the radio if it’s early morning because at 9am I listen to Eric Von Hessler who is right down the middle. BTW George Bush and all his scumbag buddies can all take a hike they are the worse of the worse they stand for nothing except war and deception and they’re a bunch of hypocrites. My friend I just tell it the way I see it I don’t need fox or cnn thinking for me I try and think for myself that way it will be hard to deceive me and I’m always looking for that. If Biden wins you’ll see I will be on his side.
