A player died under his watch and no one seems to care.
Good question Remoh. Looks like they fired the strength coach but Durkin is still hangin out.
Where's Jim Delaney in all of this?
I think he will be out the door soon enough. He's on record in 2016 as saying, "It's so important, I believe, that the strength coach and the head coach are directly in line with one another in terms of what's important, what's the message we're delivering, and Rick and I are. We're totally synchronized in that and so he's huge. He's critical to all we do." It sounds like he lost a critical piece today.
If there's confirmation of the toxic culture, he'll be out the door when the report comes out on or before Sept. 15. I also find his connections with Meyer and others in soap opera interesting.
I'm not sure I understand, every single time I turn on ESPN over the past two days I've seen nothing but Maryland coverage. Or did you mean people on here?
I guess I haven't brought it up too much because it seem like a pretty cut-and-dry situation, I have no idea how Durkin would survive. seems weird that they cut loose the strength and conditioning coach but haven't fired him yet.
I kinda meant online in general. I really haven't seen much talk about it in forums I frequent or even in Twitter.Haven't heard any talk about it on ESPN radio lately either. I don't watch ESPN, what have they been saying?
I also don't see how he survives.
If by some miracle Durkin gets to keep his job, it would be safe to assume that he doesn't have the proverbial sign "The Buck Stops Here" anywhere on his desk! Seriously, how do you fire the S&C coach even before the investigation is completed and not fire the HC?
Basically just that the Head Coach is responsible for the safety of his players, complete failure from top to bottom
I also don't understand how DJ is keeping his job while others on his staff are being fired. IMO the entire staff needs to go including Matt Canada.
I would imagine because Canada wasn't involved with the kid during his workouts in the summer.
Strength and conditioning coaches have the most time with players over the summer, with "on-field" coaches getting something like 8 hours a week for film study and whatnot. I doubt Canada, especially being new to the program, was involved with summer workout sessions. He was probably watching a lot of tape and installing schemes for the offense. The HC and S&C coaches were the ones involved with the work out sessions.
At least that would be my guess.
