@roaminglion. Come on Roam the NFL and NASCAR has licked his butt for as long as I can remember he ain’t never got overlooked. I like joe Gibbs and he was a great coach and I think he gets the credit he deserves. Joe Gibbs coached when a few teams had an advantage when he was winning but when he came back to the NFL under free agency he couldn’t get it done. The schedule in the NFL is set up for teams to go 8-8 if you do better than 8-8 you did something right and if you don’t you didn’t. The NFL is hard to win in and its a brutal league.

Gibbs never comes up in conversations about best coaches, and when he came back Washington went to the playoffs twice in his 4 years.

The skins sucked for 4 years before he got there, and sucked for 4 years after he left too.

@roaminglion coaches have their runs and Belichick has had the greatest ever in the NFL and he achieved all of it by drafting Tom Brady. Bill Belichick drafted Tom Brady to win football games and the dude hit a home run and he deserves 100% of the credit. Belichick also hired the coaches to help Tom Brady to become the QB he is today. We have to judge coaches on championships and wins and losses.

He drafted him as an afterthought in the 6th round. Let's not act like he knew something others didn't when everyone passed on him for other QBs.

As I said, if Belechik can't make the playoffs in any other season when Brady isn't the QB... I am not calling him the best ever.

I think you can make that case for any other legendary coach that had a legendary qb playing for him. I'm thinking Vince Lombardi and Bart Starr winning 5 league championships with 2 super bowls, all with VL. For the record I'm neither a Tom Brady or Bill Bilichick fan but I will give the guy all the credit he deserves as well as Brady.

Most other coaches can point to certain success without their QB, as I said IF he doesn't make it back the playoffs and basically reverts to his record pre-Brady...

Its hard to say it wasn't Brady

So I will point to another legendary coach/qb tandem, Chuck Noll and Terry Bradshaw. Chuck Noll coached the Steelers from 1969 to 1991 having won divisional championships highlighted by 4 super bowl wins. Terry Bradshaw played for Noll from 1970 to 1983 with his best years  as measured by W/L records between 1972- 1979 to include super bowls and division championships. Both are in the HOF, no?

Anyway, I'm sure you will find a pre-modern day coach exception like George Halas or modern day Don Shula and Bill Walsh to continue the discussion. it's just my opinion that I don't see your opinion. For sure that time will tell. I think Bill B. is a HOF coach, certainly with the help of Brady but deserves his own credit. I can't believe I'm defending him since i don't much care for him or Brady....or the Browns for that matter.

BTW....how is that little girl of yours? She has to be walking (probably running) and starting to chatter up a storm!!

Top 5 NFL head coaches

#1 Bill Belichick

#2 Chuck Noll

#3 Joe Gibbs

#4 Jimmy Johnson

#5 Bill Walsh

i only rank the top 5 NFL coaches because this is where the biggest dawgs coached. Notice I said biggest dawgs because there’s 7 or 8 more big dawg coaches but these dudes are the 5 that  gets down in the mud scratch, bite and claw and find a way to win when it’s nitty gritty time baby. This was a tough top 5 brother.

BTW if Jerry Jones had kept his big fat mouth shut and stayed in the suites jimmy Johnson might be #1 we’ll never know but man did he build a beast at Dallas or what? IMO the jimmy Johnson cowboy teams that won the Super Bowls are the best NFL teams of all time they had no weaknesses

Chuck Noll had multiple playoff appearances and a winning record after Terry Bradshaw 84-83. Sure not great, but also not bad.

Belechik is 51-65 without Brady with 1 playoff appearance. This is exactly why said IF Belechik reverts he's not the best IMO. 51-65 without? That's absolutely terrible. Again, I said IF he can't even get to the playoffs in a few seasons after Brady left that’s pretty bad.

@roaminglion In today's coaching atmosphere, a coach wouldn't be employed long enough to get to 51 & 65, 'cause no one would hire them after their 1st season. We'll see, but I don't think he gets back to, nor should have been mentioned as one of the best.

The man has been in 12 Super Bowls and he has 8 winning rings and 6 of those rings he was the head coach. You just can’t luck up and coach in 12 Super Bowls. Most coaches and players never play in one Super Bowl. Where ever Bill Belichick goes he wins. There was 31 other teams that could’ve taken a chance on Tom Brady and they just didn’t see the talent and Bill Belichick did and you have to be good if not great to get drafted even if it’s the sixth round.

You're right, Today it's a wussy sport compared to back then.

I once read where the Detroit Lions had the Bears beaten and were just playing out the clock with under a minute left to play.  Butkus lined up about five yards or so away from the center and when the ball was snapped, knocked him on his ass.  To the surprise of his team-mates, he promptly jumped up and called a time out just so he could hit the center one more time.  He used up all of the Bear's time-outs in under a minute or so.......pretty much because he hated Ed Flanagan, the Lion's center and an Altoona native.

That just sounds too good Southern. And is Mrs. Southern psu fan doing well? Do you call her Mrs. Southern psu fan? My wife thinks her name is whaaaaadjasay because its usually how I respond to her. Maybe thats why I'm watching superbowl by myself and eating chili dogs for dinner.

Love some baby back ribs!

Guess my opinion of Bellichick is a little tainted. I'm not naive enough to believe that coaches wouldn't bend the rules if they got a chance, but ol' Bill got himself caught twice. Doesn't it make you wonder just a little what he got away with?

Your wife is a lucky woman Southern, i'm sure you feel the same about her.  As for your youngest, you got lots of time to make him a better football person. They'll make a Hallmark movie about it someday.

Bucs and Brady. I appreciate the fact that the dude is the GOAT. Ball pressure had nothing to do with NE taking the Colts to the woodshed, and I'm not a Pats fan.

Does this game remind anybody of the Bills/Giants super bowl back in the early 90’s?

@southern-psu-fan Did a Boston butt last night for pulled pork, homemade coleslaw and the Grandson and I cooked up some sweet and tangy BBQ sauce made with peach preserves and then we made a North Carolina vinegar BBQ sauce.
