@roaminglion That's a great point that seems to get lost in the conversation....what is most important to everyone is their home "P&L". I believe that will ultimately make the turn to EV's. As for our household we do too much long range driving so EV's don't make sense but our hybrid RAV 4 certainly does. Once infrastructure and technology catches up to EV's we will convert.

My daughter has a Mazda3 that gets close to if not better mileage than some of the Hybrids. I bought her that car for when she was in college and she says she’ll never sell it.
If you don’t want to spend the extra $$ but want good gas mileage buy Mazda
@psujoe it was $1700 more than the comparably equipped RAV4 model. Mazda is a GREAT car, good choice for you and daughter.

I bought an Outback a couple years ago right when the Hybrid RAV4 was coming out and am wishing I had waited till I could get one. They were hard to find at the time and were in high demand.
@southern-psu-fan My wife got a Hybrid Toyota Highlander in 2022. We love it. It’s a 7 passenger AWD SUV that gets 35-36 mpg. I’m a truck/muscle car guy, so I was almost embarrassed to say how much I liked the car at first, but it was a great decision. We went with Toyota because we thought they have been doing the Hybrid system the longest and they seem to have everything worked out.
@lionbacker99 I’m definitely going the hybrid route the next time I buy a new car. I’ve got 3 more years before I will buy a new car assuming things keep going as planned because I like to pay cash for cars because I hate car payments. I know the electric cars are selling but Ford and a few others are losing their azz off on electric cars and they can only keep losing money at that rate for so long. Electric cars have their place but in the real world most folk can’t afford’em and that’s just the truth. With inflation and interest rates it will get harder. I heard Clark Howard saying repos on cars are at an all time high plus insurance rates are killing people. Can’t blame the insurance companies because the more the cars cost the more the insurance is just the nature of the beast. Unfortunately most folk pocket book ain’t keeping up with the cost of cars and that spells a disaster on the way. If you can’t run with the big dawgs stay on the porch with ole southern baby…the porch might be the safest place 😂
Keep the gov't out of it. Anything the gov't touches turns to sheet. If EV's are so great, they'll sell themselves. Just my opinion.
I don’t know much about electric cars or hybrids but let’s say I buy a hybrid car and the battery goes bad can you run just gas until you get the money to replace the battery or does the battery have to work for the car to operate? Thanks
If a hybrid battery dies, the car won't work. You would have to replace the battery at that pointI don’t know much about electric cars or hybrids but let’s say I buy a hybrid car and the battery goes bad can you run just gas until you get the money to replace the battery or does the battery have to work for the car to operate? @roaminglion I guess it just depends on what your driving habits are on what you buy then. My wife drives 8 miles a day back and forth to work and I drives 38 miles a day. That’s only 46 miles a day but we travel to Florida 3 or 4 times a year and back and forth to the lake quite a bit so I need 1 total electric and one hybrid. Gas don’t tear me up like it use to but I know it hurts a lot of people. Everybody situation is different that’s why I’m for keeping as many options as possible for people on transportation. Anybody who thinks we can do strictly electric lives in a bubble and a very small bubble. Thanks for the information Roam. BTW I’ve never been in an electric car but I have been in a hybrid and I like the hybrid cars. It was a Toyota and I loved the car.

I guess the days of zero percent financing are gone. I had the cash but got zero percent financing so I took that and invested my cash elsewhere.
Exactly, which is why we have one EV and one Hybrid as well!@roaminglion I guess it just depends on what your driving habits are on what you buy then. Linebacker, we looked at that hybrid Pilot and loved it though we ( I ) felt it was bigger than we needed in our current needs. Joe, that Outback is be a great car too, solid and dependable. How about all the new safety features that are now standard like lane departure?
@southern-psu-fan This is exactly why we went with Toyota. They have been doing the hybrid technology for a long time now. Also, they offered a 10yr/100,000 mile warranty on the battery, which told me they were pretty confident in their product. We bought the extended warranty on the rest of the car to match the 10 yr/100,000 mile benchmark, so it covers the whole car bumper to bumper including the hybrid engine components that weren’t covered under the battery warranty.
@lakerie The Pilot is a nice car. Several of my coworkers and friends have owned them. If the Pilot was too big, would you consider a RAV4 Hybrid? It’s smaller than the Pilot and the new ones are pretty nice. Same Hybrid technology as the rest of the Toyota Hybrid fleet.
@lakerie Sorry Lake. I missed your earlier post stating you own a RAV4 Hybrid. My mistake.

The safety features are great and I do llke Eyesite with the adaptive cruise control and lane departure plus the auto braking but i get tired of the car constantly telling me to keep my hands on the steering wheel, keep my eyes on the road or stay alert!! I’m disappointed in the gas mileage but probably shouldn’t be because I did buy an XT with the turbo 4 for the extra torque and horsepower. I’m also disappointed in the infotainment system because it is really glitchy and everything is controlled through it.
@lionbacker99 i owe you an apology as well as I meant to say we looked at the Higlander hybrid. We were trading in a Pilot so I had that on my mind. We had intended to buy Honda product but decided to take a look at Toyota's thus found the Rav4.
You pointed out my one grip about our Tesla, the infotainment system. I wish they would just allow Android Auto and/or Apple Carplay to sync up to my phone. I can still access it, but only via bluetooth so I have to look at it to change apps and stuff. Not a huge issue, but Tesla does force you to use their Apps which is unfortunate.Linebacker, we looked at that hybrid Pilot and loved it though we ( I ) felt it was bigger than we needed in our current needs. The 8 track player I put in my "55 Chevy works like a charm!

Yea Apple CarPlay is kinda nice but I find myself more often connecting via Bluetooth like you’re doing
@rip good one!! pretty high tech for a 55 though. I'm trying to figure out how to hook up a fax machine to my car, who knows, could come in handy.
How in God's name does this thread go from our starting QB to electric cars??
My two cents: we start the QB that best fits AK's system.
And I'll stick with my Dodge pick-ups
@tsuga Shouldn't you be boiling sap w/ my hardheaded GF?
Going to be an ugly sap season down this way, red maple buds already starting to swell.
