Dalton may also be looking at transferring.  Would make sense for PSU and Dalton.

Yep! If you're not starting, might as well look to transfer!

If you were a 4* or 5* athlete and were going to sit for your entire career unless an injury happened, you saying you wouldn't consider going somewhere you could play?

I can tell you I wouldn't and I didn't. I came to PSU because I wanted to wrestle for PSU. PERIOD.  I paid my dues on the wrestling team and when my chance came, I made the most of it.  I didnt start for the simple fact that the guy ahead of me was better. That was a hard lesson to learn and a bitter pill to swallow. I knew that if i wanted to start; I had to improve my technique and get better than him.  At NO time did I ever consider quitting or transfering to another program.   There was a brotherhood amongst us on the wrestling team and bonds were made that will never be broken.  I guess I look at it differently then some of the younger guys do now a days. I honestly don't understand the "I cant start so Im taking my ball and going home" mentality.  I was taught a commitment was just that....a commitment.  I learned your handshake was a binding agreement and integrity means everything.

Anyway, that's my two cents on the matter

Wrestling is nothing like football, you don't have millions of dollars waiting for you in the NFL. You are asking kids to be a backup and put their dreams and financial future on the line rather than transferring somewhere they can play and display their talent.

I also fan track at Penn State. No way I would have transferred either... but I also didn't have to consider riding the bench and possibly miss out on millions because I happen to be on a team with an All-american playing in front of me. It's super easy to say you won't transfer when there is absolutely nothing on the line, it's a whole different ballgame when it could be the difference between trying to make an NFL roster as an undrafted backup with no game experience and being drafted from another school that gave you an opportunity to play.

Anyways, I do want to post that I am just stating my opinion. Just because I say that I don't agree with your opinion doesn't mean I don't respect it. You are all certainly entitled to feel the way you feel about kids transferring out. It is a tough and complex issue and no one is wrong or right IMO.

We just have different perspectives and I don't mean to make anyone feel like I am saying they are "wrong".

We're good.  I just dont see the logic/reasoning behind transferring to another team because and you cant crack the lineup.  Perhaps its a wake up call that some of these guys dont want to answer.  I wonder just how many transfers (sans QB's) will actually make it to the NFL??  Interesting stat to look up in the following years.

You're definitely right, that would be an interesting stat to look up! We always hear about the successful transfers like Russell Wilson and Joe Flacco but I'm sure there's quite a few that never did anything of consequence.

Couldn't agree with you more.  Unfortunately, those days are gone.  With all the player & coach movement, it seems more and more like the NFL.  Sad.  Maybe its better at the FCS level.  Anyway, at least they have a legitimate playoff system.

It’s easy to fix. No transferring unless you sit out a year unless you have graduated...period! No exceptions

I'm not a fan of zero tolerance, I think exceptions need to be allowed but within reason. Unfortunately the waiver system is being abused and they seem to be handing out waivers like hotcakes.

If there's a situation where some kid's mother is dying, she has no one else, and he wants to transfer back home to live with her and go to school... I have no problem granting that waiver. It's compassionate. However, if one kids calls you a name at a game? That's ridiculous.

Zero tolerance is the only way to fix it IMO. I’m not a fan of it either but it is what it is. This way everybody knows what the rules are.

Zero Tolerance never fixes anything IMO... just leads to growing discontent. There needs to be at least some flexibility for common sense situations.

But I get where you're coming from.

Only 2% of college players are drafted by the NFL each year. I'd venture to say that the number of players who transfer play on Sunday is even less.

That sounds like a recipe for a toxic locker room.  No exceptions?  That's almost inviting players to act up just enough to be kicked off the team but not bad enough that someone else won't take them.  Sometimes it is better for all concerned when student-athletes start fresh somewhere new.  And forcing them to stay certainly doesn't create that bond of brotherhood that Bulldawgs talks about.  That comes when everyone WANTS to be there.
