I'm pretty sure BT was referring to the Marine Corps  birthday which was yesterday. Both he and Tsuga are Marines.

Many thanks to you and all the men and women who have, and are now, serving.

@mtnittanylion  You're hunting in the right areas. Just keep at it. Not sure if you use calls and/or lures or not. I stopped doing that some years ago to a degree.

I make mock scrapes using tinks scrape starter, and nothing else. Also use a grunt tube when the time is right but that's about it.

Also, stay in the shadows if at all possible.

Good luck!!  Keep us posted

Good to hear from you! I haven't shot a rack buck....EVER! Just small junk and doe.  NOW, I do catch BIG fish and that is my sport!

HOWEVER, I am going to give it my best this year.  I have MISSED 4 rack buck, I have seen my share in the distance and unfortunately, I am just not that lucky.  My goodness, my neighbor shot an 8 point out of my stand during archery season on the second day this year.  Several years back, another friend of mine shot even a bigger 8 point out my stand during archery season.  Maybe I need to quite letting these guys use my tree stand!!

I will let you know if I bag one.  I am going ALL OUT for a few days and ain't taking any doe until muzzleloader season! And THAT is not even given anymore!!

Hope all is well!!

@mtnittanylion Not sure what a rock fish looks like. Googled it and there's so many "rock fish", including rock bass, pretty sure not what you're happily catching and one bozo posted a walleye as a rock fish. Are they kind of pinkish orange? Looks like a reef fish?

@mtnittanylion and I thought if you lived in the State College area you’d be an expert trout fisherman. Tampa has pretty darn good Snook fisahing

They call them Rock Fish down on the Chesapeake, I call them Stripers in Raystown.

@psujoe

Yes, I was born and raised 20 minutes from Happy Valley and Trout fished every stream around there.  AND THEN I got turned onto fishing for Stripers and put the trout rods away. Bought a place in LBK (about 60 minutes south of Tampa) and now I am hooked on Snook fishing.  Catch a lot of Trout too, but the Snook fishing with "greenbacks" under the mangroves is about as much fun as a I have ever had!

And just for the record, fishing for Striped Bass in the Chesapeake doesn't EVEN compare to fishing for them at night, with top water lures, in the spring, with ultra light gear when the bait fish are just beginning to spawn at Raystown. Try THAT sometime, you won't tie another trout fly in your life again!!!

@mtnittanylion I’ll never give up flyfishing for trout in central PA, the Catskills or out west or for the huge browns that inhabit the Great Lakes tribs in the fall. I could tell you about some of the fall run Great Lakes browns I’ve hooked on the tribs in the fall but you wouldn’t believe me. The one I managed to get onto the bank last year on Oak Orchard River was a lot bigger than anything even in my wildest dreams. Two people witnessed me hook that fish and I don’t know who they told about it but the next day people were lined up on both sides of the river at that spot and I’m pretty sure I know why.

@psujoe I can attest to the big browns in the lake tribs! I kinda like Steelies better, but hey, any fish pulling line off my reel is exciting to me. I've caught some fairly nice salmon, but can't say I've landed any trout more than 10, 12 lbs, but they are in there.

@tsuga Tried it back in the late 90’s. This part of the state rarely gets ice thick enough anyhmore.

MNL: you can loan out your tools, your trailer, your tractor, even your pick-up from time to time but don't EVER lend out your treestand to anyone....lol

You might be overhunting that stand. Not sure if you're hunting feeding or bedding areas but the time of day your hunting plays into that too. You may be chasing deer away on your approach.

I have stands that I only hunt if the wind is right. Also have some 500 yards from my house but I'll travel a mile away and walk in just so I'm not chasing anything off.

In saying all that, I attached pictures of my target buck. I havent run into him yet.
