Sky,

No I did not listen to music or motivational speakers to get prepared.  I too have hearing loss,  Mine came from being on an aircraft carrier and being about 100 feet from an F4 Phantom taking off, and being on the catwalk 15 feet above the 5" 54 cal gun turret as it was fired.  Running pneumatic tools.  All without hearing protection.

Thank you for your service. On another note, I think the VA will pay for hearing aids; rightfully so.

Different strokes for different folks.  If it helps the kid relax and doesn't impact his play, I'm all for it.  When he/she becomes distracted or unable to focus, changes may need to be made for that individual.  I can see the need for the "distraction".

The hearing loss thing is another matter.  I represent employers and get hearing loss claims, in employment settings where hearing protection is supplied and required.  5 minutes after the whistle, the employees turn the music on and volume up.  I get the claim and my client pays for the hearing loss.

Adults are one thing, how about young people? The hearing loss epidemic is just starting. During college I worked near machines that made loud noise all day and no one thought about hearing protection.  My hearing is bad and getting worse. I will need hearing aids soon which will cost me around $4,000!  This thread has deviated a bit but like the guy that smoked and got lung cancer definitely regretted using tobacco. This listening to music thing is a recent phenomenon and I just don’t get why some believe they need it. My son is an infantry officer and I asked him if would he allow his soldiers wear headphones if it helped them relax. He laughed.

Anyway, I’m old school and proud of it. Did these guys need to listen to music to achieve greatness?

old school would get buried in todays world.  New methods, trends, techniques are a way of improvement.  What worked then, doesn't necessarily work now.

Music was played at almost every battle during the revolutionary war. The fife and drum corps were used to boost morale and for communication between companies. So in actuality, George Washington felt music was essential for his soldier's well being.

Einstein's 2nd wife described how music helped him think, she stated: "I fell in love with Albert because he played Mozart so beautifully on the violin. He also plays the piano. Music helps him when he is thinking about his theories."

...and yes, since you listed me I also listened to music before competing in the 400 IH, an event in which I was All-American. LMAO

Just sayin', music may be more important in the past than you realized.

In the "old days" the team was fired up by the school band playing at games instead of the piped in rock music used in today's college stadiums.  One of the best parts of attending a game at Beaver Stadium was listening to the Blue Band playing "fight songs" during the course of the game.   It really got the crowd into the game and presumably psyched up the players!

Lol......Sky, two of the guys you listed are women.  I listened to a motivational speaker when I served.  Back then, we called him a DI.

I heard that Stevens is transferring because he got caught wearing earbuds.
