@psu61 you sound almost as pissed as me on how things ended 😂
@southern-psu-fan To answer your question, yes players in the portal can still play, but it is up to the coach if he wants them still around.
Once they select another team though, they are not allowed to play or practice with their previous school.
Enai White jumping into the portal after all those other guys signed with TN seems suspicious. Will be interesting to see where he lands
Penn State lands IOL Brock Riker from Texas State. He was a freshman All-American and was a target of Oklahoma, Alabama, and others.
Also another ISU guy, but this one is big... Jeremiah Cooper who was injured this past year but was All Big 12 1st team CB in the past.
MC continues the momentum
@roaminglion Penn State added another former Iowa State player Sunday afternoon, locking up cornerback Jeremiah Cooper. Listed at 6-foot, 195 pounds, Cooper was a regular contributor for the Cyclones his first three seasons. However, he was injured in Iowa State’s fourth game in 2025, forcing him to sit out the rest of the season. That’ll allow him to play one more season of college ball.
we also picked up this dude
LOL I was just editing my post with that! Dude is a big pick up!@roaminglion Penn State added another former Iowa State player Sunday afternoon, locking up cornerback Jeremiah Cooper. @roaminglion we killing it roam
I know VT signed at least 4 of our guys today and we sign 1 more ISU guy and that means we’re killing it? At the beginning I understood signing the best players from ISU because we had a serious amount of vacancies but continuing to sign 2 and 3 star talent from a mediocre B12 team isn’t gonna cut it when we continue losing 4 and 5 star guys to the portal.
There are better players available than what we are signing and I’d like to know why we continue to lose top guys almost daily. I’m now with FD on this one, something just doesn’t seem right.
I don't think a freshman all american and a Big 12 1st team DB qualifies as 2 or 3 star talent. MC is signing solid players while building a no drama bullshit culture. No way is a first year coach loading up on 4-5 stars. That comes with winning and ones that come have to fit the culture and even then there are only so many to draw from. It really wont be surprising going forward if MC builds the program around a few 4-5 Stars complimenting the majority of established portal guys. Imo, thats just the way the game is now evolving.
Fact is stars dont matter once you hit your second season, by then you pretty much know what you have.
Take a look at:
1)Saban’s first Bama team that won the NC and the star power.
2) Cigs first two Indiana team
Bottom line is that ‘potential’ doesn’t win championships, what you see is what you have.
I guess it’s easy to say stars don’t matter when you’re bleeding them at the pace that we are and when the current recruiting class doesn’t have many. You guys can claim what you want about Cignetti but he is most definitely going after high star guys in the portal and in recruiting. And there’s at least one regular on this forum that used to say “stars matter” but now seems to think they don’t. Pretty sure you all know who I’m talking about
The question that I have is a simple one...Why doesn't PSU have the money to lure in these top guys? you are spending a billion dollars on stadium and facility renovations and you can't pony up 40 million dollars for a team? I can tell ya this much...If they don't start winning nobody will be showing up and nobody will be buying up them luxury suites either...They might as well be playing at Hershey stadium cause that is all the capacity they are going to need...I am going to keep my mouth shut and see how this goes but I just can't understand how we can't retain these big time players that we had and why we can't seem to land any of the big time players that are out there...Talent does matter...I keep going back to the Wilpon era with the Mets and how it was tough to watch the Yankees always landing the big FA's while the Mets were bargain basement hunting every winter even though they were both big market teams...The Mets under the Wilpons were like run like they were playing in Peoria for Christ sake...No offense but this ain't the Big 12 and he better be bringing in some talent before this portal closes...Right now I am concerned...But I will shut up now and see how it goes...Hopefully I am eating crow but I am concerned...
@psujoe in recruiting stars definitely matter but the transfer portal is different because these players have most likely already proven themselves to be good solid football players. The Indiana QB has already proven himself so his stars out of high school doesn’t matter. Recruiting out of high school the stars definitely matter imo
We’re cherry picking the Iowa St players getting their best football players even Ohio State would love to be able to get this done. This is a different game today than just recruiting out of high school. IMO stars on the players you need are the way to go recruiting out of high school but the transfer portal it’s getting the highest ranked players that you need is what’s needed. We rank #1 or #2 in the transfer portal and that’s saying something imo. MC has pulled off some magic these last few weeks99% of the coaches out there would trade portal players with him. We hit the goldmine baby.
Can you explain why Enai White is rated 97 4/5* guy in the portal, because I sure can't.I guess it’s easy to say stars don’t matter when you’re bleeding them at the pace that we are and when the current recruiting class doesn’t have many. You guys can claim what you want about Cignetti but he is most definitely going after high star guys in the portal and in recruiting. And there’s at least one regular on this forum that used to say “stars matter” but now seems to think they don’t. Can you also explain why freshman all americans and Big 12 1st teamers aren't considered big pick ups? Because again, I sure can't.
Be honest with yourself... at the end of the day would you rather have a portal transfer guy who proved it as a freshman all-american in college (or Big 12 1st teamer), or a guy who was a 5* HS guy 4 years ago who has done nothing but be a backup?
@psujoe Would you rather still have Franklin as HC? Let's wait and see what the Soup man will be serving next fall.
Yet everyone seems to complain about losing a fresman defensive lineman who did nothing this year, and another DT who has been a backup for 3 years (but he was a 5*recruit 4 years ago)@psujoe Would you rather still have Franklin as HC? Let's wait and see what the Soup man will be serving next fall.
He’ll be serving up a team consisting of players poached from James Madison, Texas State, Iowa State and today our latest big transfer portal WR signee is coming from Grambling.
I’ll admit I’m VERY optimistic about this season and love what I’m seeing and when the USC game is in Happy Valley for the whiteout I’m predicting today we’ll be 9-0 baby and if we win that game MC first year will be 12-0 regular season. I feel better about MC than I did James Franklin when we hired him and Franklin was a grandslam hire and I was 100% right and I’m right again my friends just wait and see.
Clearly highschool 'STARS' have limited predictive nature. You need to look at the competition and even if the competition is good you can not assess heart and coachability. A three star you 'lived with' or even that you have college game film of is much more predictive. We know a few recruits that were walk-ons and got drafted in the NFL. One walk-on comes to mind. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troy_Drayton
I believe stars matter generally for incoming freshman, but HS evals don't mean dick if you've been in college for 2 years with nothing to show for it.
Yeah I get there are Joe Burrows out there, but they are the exception. I just don't care about some BS portal ranking that is holding on to a star rating from 3 years ago.
Did yall see where Ty Simpson is in the running for a $6M payday if he enters portal.
You gotta be kidding me!
@psu61 That’s what the kid from Washington was reportedly being offered by LSU after he signed his deal with the Huskies
@psu61 Ga Tech needs him I hope Ty goes to Atlanta baby 😁 this is just where we are right now but I don’t see how it can be sustainable?
You’re right because if it continues college football will continue losing fans. I really don’t see myself lasting much longer if things don’t change.@psu61 Ga Tech needs him I hope Ty goes to Atlanta baby 😁 this is just where we are right now but I don’t see how it can be sustainable?
