I know the talk is all about him ending up at Mississippi State, but I believe he's going to play at Illinois. Just a feeling, but the type of offense they run coupled with no starting QB in sight has me thinking this will happen.

IMO he should have to transfer outside the big 10.

I think he should be allowed to go anywhere he wants. Coaches have had that freedom, why shouldn't players? I agree that Illinois is probably the best place for him.

I believe the ncaa should make every effort possible  to keep kids from transferring. Coaches get paid as a profession when players don’t. Y’all have hammered me for wanting to pay players when I thought it was the right thing to do but  now after watching all these kids transfer is making  me change my mind because I believe it will lead to kids not gettin an education. If college football is all about football and not getting an education I believe it will hurt college football in the long run and that will eventually hurt the NFL. Looking at it now don’t fix something that ain’t broke because most of these kids won’t make it to the nfl

I know I'm an ole fart with ole fashioned ideas, but here goes my perverted thoughts.  First of all, are we talking about college students who are good at playing football or are we talking about football players using college to  prep for the NFL.  If it's the former, transfers should not be allowed except for very extenuating circumstances and then sitting out a year should be mandatory.  If it's the latter, they should be paid and unlimited transfers should be allowed without having to sit for a year.  As it stands now, the NCAA has made a mess of the transfer issue and, in my opinion, destroying college football.  Secondly, please don't bring up what coaches are doing, they are a whole different animal.  Coaches are recognized as employees up front and are paid from the git go.

I would be shocked if Stevens goes anywhere BUT Illinois...He walks in as the uncontested starter on Day 1 and that is what it seems he is looking for...I also believe he is a great fit for that offense as well...My personal opinion on this is Mr. Stevens is gone...He has chosen to leave the program and go elsewhere...Good Luck to him and I wish him well...My concern is for the QB's CURRENTLY on the Penn State roster...Mr. Stevens will choose team where he will walk in day one as the unquestioned starter and good for him that is his prerogative and he exercised his right to do so and not to be flippant or a jerk about it but he isn't Penn State's problem anymore and I choose to pay attention to the QB's currently on the Penn State roster as those kids are going to determine how far this team will go this season...In my opinion Steven's departure causes real concerns regarding the depth at that position...

What I want to know is why transferring and playing immediately is only an issue in Basketball, Football, Ice Hockey, and Baseball? Because the NCAA rules allow kids in any other sport to transfer and play immediately. What, academics don't seem to be an issue in those sports?

I just find it funny that people say "it's about academics" when a football player wants to transfer and play immediately, yet no one is worried about Matt Parker transferring into the wrestling program and having immediate eligibility.

It is a valid question... Why is immediate eligibility only allowed in certain sports yet not in others?

You know more about the academics Roam but I would think that graduation rates are higher in other sports than football and basketball because the kids take the books more seriously because they know they probably ain’t going professional after college. It’s just a guess on my part I’m probably wrong lol.

Roam, it's only an issue because the NCAA is involved and screwed it up like everything else they touch.   Logic says whatever the rules are regarding transferring and playing right away should be the same, regardless of the sport.  Along these lines, why is a real college football playoff in place for FCS, Div II & Div III, but not the FBS classification?

Tommy Stevens has already graduated. So, he should be allowed to go anywhere he wants and play immediately.

I'm all for that rule, it's a good thing. Though what troubles me right now is how out of hand the "waivers" have gotten, or how blatantly ridiculous the waiver rule is applied.

1. Justin Fields cries racism, gets a waiver...
2. Tate Martell just gets a waiver for no apparent reason...
3. But a kid who wants to be closer to his mother (because she is recovering from a brain tumor) is not granted a waiver because the campus is 5 miles outside of a "100 mile radius"

NCAA... WTF are you doing?

It's a disgrace and merely a tool they use to protect their chosen franchises to ensure success ... This is a business and have no illusions here this is BIG business to the tune of BILLIONS of dollars. . This has nothing to do with molding and educating young men but ensuring certain schools (franchises) hold their value so networks and the NCAA can make billions of dollars...Its obvious the whole thing is a farce and a fraud because they use different standards and playoff formats to crown their champion in the same sport... EVERY college football division uses the same playoff format EXCEPT the top division...you know the one that has the most money and could easily afford the travel expenses .. The whole thing is sickening...major college athletics has become a sham and a farce... I don't know which is worse the football or the basketball...all you see are these crooked, corrupt degenerate misfits scrambling to put lipstick on the pig that they have created to try and cover up how corrupt and crooked the whole thing is...
