@psu61 i agree about the DL that’s the position im worried about most. The offense is going to be very good when they start jelling we should’ve beat temple worse than we did we dropped the ball 3 or 4 times that killed momentum. The QB play is the best we’ve had since D-Clark this dude Rocco is good.
They will get better homer it’s the second game by the time we play Wisconsin the team will be jelling.
Offense is gonna have to beat USC and Mich; our D line just isn't there yet in beef size and intensity going up against teams like that. WI is a toss up, imo.
Do we really have the backs for the offense to carry us?? Hansen doesn’t impress me at all.

With the mediocre level of talent we brought in over the off-season we’re pretty much what I thought we might be which is a middle of the pack B1G team. We’re also once again the most overrated team in the country.
Nah...
@roaminglion what would it hurt letting Cam Wallace start one game just to see how he does? I’m not saying he’s better than the other 2 but from what I’ve seen so far he’s just as good, maybe better. I like all the RB’s but I haven’t seen Cam with the start yet and I want too. It’s buffalo Roam give the dude a chance. Lol
What would it hurt? Morale? What you've seen so far? Like 14 whole plays with a YPC average 1 yard lower than Hansen???@roaminglion what would it hurt letting Cam Wallace start one game just to see how he does? "Hey, lets replace some kid who earned his starting position because this guy over here looks cool?"
I mean, you're going to have to give me more than "I think he is good based on 14 plays where he averaged less yards per carry than our starter"
Yeah, doesn't seem like Soup play favorites like Franklin did. If Wallace earns a start, let him. If not, use the other guys.
It ain’t like any of the backs are killing it. One looks like a FB and the other looks like Stephan Green…good but not good enough to not give Cam Wallace a shot.
I believe #1 is the better all around RB but #21 I love in short yardage that dude gets 3 or 4 yards but #1 can get 80 yard runs. I’m not piling on saying they’re not good because they are I just don’t know if they’re better than Cam Wallace. Just win though
I want to point out something that I haven't seen mentioned in the forum yet...I know there are concerns with the O-Line...I will say this regarding that situation...It takes O-Lines some time to gel...This O-Line hasn't been together too long and I believe this unit will show the most improvement moving forward...The more time they play together the better they will be...It has been my observation over the years that the offense always is a little bit behind the defense at the beginning of the season...I expect this team to show improvement each week...I also want to point out that Temple historically gives Penn State a good game...They have Smolek who is an ex Penn Stater and of course Keeler coaching them...So you know they were laying for Penn State on Saturday...They did what they had to do to win the ballgame in a convincing enough fashion...I also wouldn't fiddle around too much with the running backs rotation either...As is the case with the O-Line gelling it is also important not to fool with the RB's as they get into a timing ritual with the O-Line as well...I actually think the run game is going to be very good as the season moves forward...Temple is a very good football team and could very well be the representative of the group of 5 or whatever they call them...
@the-funeral-director that dude Tengwall said the OL was going very good kicking temples butt but the RB’s weren’t gettin it done and running into the piles. He said yes they got 8 yards but they should’ve got 20 or 30 yards if they run to the daylight. He said the holes were there and the RB’s just didn’t see the daylight. He said #1 shouldn’t have leaped he should’ve faked the guy out and got 30 more yards.
That’s one of the biggest reasons I want to see cam Wallace start the game and see if he runs for daylight. Just my opinion though
Imo, MC doesn't ride with Hanson if Hanson isn't getting it done; not saying he takes him out as #1, but those carry numbers start coming down if another RB clicks with the O'line and play calling; sometimes O'line just picks it up a notch when you have a different RB or QB, those dudes know who the hell can get it done, that doesn't mean that player plays though, e.g. JF and some of his boneheaded choices.
Will be interesting seeing this play out over the season.
At 6'2", 220, 4.5 speed, dude either plows into the hole or needs enough space to get going and run over people; I don't see him juking and jiving.
@psu61 Quintin Martin is who I was wanting to see but also Cam Wallace just to see. I’m pulling for 21but imo he looks a little slow getting started and he might struggle in big 10 play. In the big 10 these FB type RB’s need plays that get them to the line of scrimmage fast. I love his game in certain plays but the running plays we do he’s a second to slow getting to the line. Maybe ya’ll seeing something I ain’t and I hope that’s the case. Again I like the dudes play and toughness it’s him getting going is what concerns me. We will see.
Yeah, I'm seeing his numbers... he's the only RB averaging over 4 yards per carry. Y'all just seeing potential long runs, and apparently don't mind sacrificing a bunch of bad runs and consistency for it.
@roaminglion We ran the ball good Saturday you’re absolutely correct and 21 numbers were good but we weren’t scoring enough points. The longer drives are it seems to me the harder it is to score. 21 is a scrappy RB that likes to put the head down and run over people but you gotta have big running plays and we’ve yet to see that in 2 games that we should’ve seen it. It’s going to get harder when big 10 play gets here. He’s a good RB and I’m tickled that we got him but we need Peoples, Wallace or Martin to have in there as a threat. I believe the QB is good enough to beat any team if we get the running going. 2-0
I know we’ve mostly been saying USC is when we’ll find out who we really are but I think we’re also going to probably learn a lot vs Wiscy. I really don’t know much about them but if they have the beef on both lines like they usually do it’s gonna be a good test. Hopefully FD is right and the line just needs time to gell. And what’s up with Martin not getting any touches vs Temple? There was a lot of hype about him this summer. Maybe they’re trying to light a fire under his @ss?
I am gonna say this...If we struggle to beat Wisky or NW then we have a problem...Those teams are lower tier teams...We should be hammering teams like that...I mean we get Wisky at home for God sake...If we don't beat them by 17 pts. or more then we certainly aren't a playoff caliber team...Same goes for Northwestern...I don't give a good God damn if they are opening up a new stadium or what the occasion is...We should march into that building and spank the shit out of em...That game shouldn't be close...Another game we should win by 3 touchdowns or more...I am sick and tired of this handwringing and mamby pamby bullshit...This is the #14 team in the country...They need to march in and hammer people...Simple as that...They are lucky I ain't out there...I would be in their face morning, noon and night busting ass...The first test should be USC and we should take a ballbat to them too...In our building in a white out...We should win that ballgame too...I will give Michigan this...Their offense isn't very good but their defense is maybe the best defensive unit I have seen all year...They are tough up front and their secondary can cover...It is gonna come down to if Penn State can score 21 to 24 pts. in that game...If they get to 24 pts. they will win...USC is the barometer game...We will know after that ballgame if we can hang with the top tier teams...
With the eyeball test I’m judging all 4 running backs on the last 3 games and what my eyes seen is Quinton Martin and James Peoples is 1 and 2 and Hansan and Wallace is 3 and 4. Landon Tengwall said the OL has played very good the first 2 games so if that true then the RB’s aren’t finding daylight. It doesn’t mean they’re not playing good because they are they just aren’t home run threats so that means I definitely want to see Quinton Martin start the game against Buffalo. I can only judge on what I’ve seen out of the 4 RB’s in the 3 games I watched but I can tell you right now the Clemson Defense is better than Marshall and temple and Martin was killing them. All 4 RB’s are good I’m sure we’ll figure it out.
The two drives we failed to score on were both short. We had a big play on the 1st one and then stalled. Over on downs the second one.@roaminglion We ran the ball good Saturday you’re absolutely correct and 21 numbers were good but we weren’t scoring enough points. The only drives we didn’t score were the forst 3, and two were fluke reasons. Every drive after the 1st quarter we scored.

Quinton Martin played against the 2nd string Marshall defense and didn't even average 4 ypc, and you have him 1? He didn't even have a rush in the Temple game SMDHWith the eyeball test I’m judging all 4 running backs on the last 3 games and what my eyes seen is Quinton Martin and James Peoples is 1 and 2 and Hansan and Wallace is 3 and 4. Clemson's entire roster practically opted out last year, and judging by this year they suck. They gave up 310 yards rushing to LSU
People gotta get over this "we need to beat them by x amount of points" stuff. Ohio State beat Nebraska 21-17 in 2024 and won the national championship. I just care if we win, I don't care by how many points.
Would it be concerning? Sure. Would it matter if we then beat USC? Nope. Even the best teams have stinker games. 1994 we almost lost to Illinois, and that team is regarded as one of the best ever.
@roaminglion If you’re saying we don’t have any backs on our roster better than Hansen we are in trouble once we get into B1G play.
