I thought Paterno and Switzer were actually pretty good friends and actually vacationed together as a family; could have sworn I heard/read that years ago.
I am guessing that's not the case. I believe Joe Paterno once said he'd never retire because he didn't want to leave college football to the "Barry Switzer's and Jackie Sherril's of the world."
I didn't think they were friends either, but I ran across an article by Jenni Carlson that appeared in the Oklahoman newspaper 11/10/2011, and I quote: :
"Ironically, it was Paterno who took aim at Switzer nearly three decades ago. He proclaimed that he wouldn't retire and “leave college football to the Jackie Sherrills and Barry Switzers of the world.” He quickly apologized to Switzer, and the two became friends in the years that followed. Switzer even wrote extensively about Paterno in his book."
Go figure!
BK or Lake will y’all please meet at the water cooler I got a question to ask. Anybody is welcome to help me out here. Thanks guys

Great find! Thanks for that!
I have a recollection of reading something years back that it was the wives that befriended each other (Paterno/Switzer). So their friendship could have aided in the two gentleman becoming civil with each other and than later become friends.
So, we complain if Franklin doesn’t get the top players in the state, then when he does, we say he isn’t as good as his ranking. He and the players just can win sometimes.
Let’s enjoy the fact that the prize RB in this class will be in the blue and white next year. I hope he exceeds all expectations at PSU. Comparing him to Saquon isn’t even remotely fair to him.

And just my 2 cents.
Tom Osborne was as slimy as any college football coach out there. He hid behind “faith” and an “awe shucks” personality but when it came right down to it, he did whatever he had to do to win, including rostering players who were known to abuse women.
@lionbacker99: You and I think a lot alike. I read some of these comments and just have to shake my head at the negativity as well as the hypocrisy.
Saw in another thread where a poster was busting on Brandon Smith. As for me, I choose to support all our guys.
@lionbacker99 Hey 99, if you throw in your two cents, but only get a penny for your thoughts, where's the other penny go?

🤣 I thought we were going to stop making pennies because it costs more to make one than they are worth?
