Here is what the benefit is for those players opting not to play. Its called GIVING BACK to those that helped make YOU!
But those same players routinely say they don't mind, and even think they are smart for sitting out.
No offense Mt Nittany but lets get real here...You have a kid who is about to get drafted and make life changing money...You are going to hold it against the kid for sitting out a meaningless game to protect his body from injury? Sorry if it was my kid I would strongly advise him to skip the midas-honey mustard-fried chicken bowl and prepare for the draft...Once he signs his multimillion contract he can give a scholarship back to the school in a trust...That is a much more effective and efficient way to give back than blowing out your knee in a meaningless football game that benefits nobody but the corrupt bowl committee in charge of the bowl...
@the-funeral-director I’m not saying it’s wrong or right but if that’s the way fans, players and coaches feel, it’s time to do away with bowl games all together and get a 16 team playoff system going that way the games are still important and we don’t have to worry about young men blowing their knees out.
They should have done away with these meaningless bowl games years ago and set up a fair and equitable playoff system like they have in every other division in college football...UCF exposed this thing a few years back when they went undefeated and beat the team that beat the "national champion"...From a common sense and purely logical standpoint you have team A who lost a game to team C...You have team B who is undefeated and and beat team C...Who should be the national champion? The system is a sham and until enough fans say enough is enough we ain't watching this garbage they ain't gonna fix it...
@southern-psu-fan YEP, sure is..Dont shoot the messenger, but the Sirius,(ESPN U) radio guys, were seriously questioning ,(no pun intended) the selection of a 7-5 PSU squad, over a 8-4 Minnesota team today in the OUTBACK..They obviously realized why, just stated its wrong...
These bowls are all about money...They want teams that have a strong fan base that travel well...Penn State probably has the best fan base in the country when it comes to traveling...They will always be awarded better bowls than their record deserves because of this...

Neither. One played in a much tougher conference than the other. And please don't try and argue that the AAC is just as good as the SEC. It's not, anyone with eyes can see that. The AAC teams also lose at a much higher rate to Power 5 conferences when they play. The SEC schedule, the Big Ten schedule, etc. are just plain tougher to get through than the AAC schedule.
TCU and Utah used to cruise through their respective conferences. Then they went to a Power 5 conference, and Utah just now won the Pac 12... after 3 losses this year and 11 years since joining. It's. Just. Tougher.
That's not to say UCF wasn't a really good team... which is why I said "neither". UCF should have been in the playoff and we would have gotten to see what they could do, but I'm not giving them a National Title just because they beat Auburn in a game Auburn was missing starters who sat out and didn't care to be there.
Outback is OK...PSU is the best 5 loss team and it is about $$ right?
Like Joe said, It's not about the X's and the O's but the Bucks and the Benjamins 🙂
