Here’s mine :
We lost to a superior team with a superior coaching staff.
Sorry, I don't have any excuses for you.
Sorry, I misspoke. Meant to say there is no excuse for you.
Bottom line:
- The O sucks against same level competition and above.
- DA is not a top tier QB, he is not naturally fluid, and doesn't fit the scheme or flexibility that is needed when the system breaks down, sure he's had a few gotcha moments, that's different than being a gotcha QB.
- If the WR can't create separation, then the QB has got to be able to reliably and consistently get positive yards.
- D', I think the D played at a higher level with Manny based on loving the coach, there is just something to that.
- D' can't cover top tier receivers.
- A few more ACs probably need to go; JF is not going.
- We took an ass whipping from a better team and better HC.
@psu61 if all our studs players played I would agree with you 61 but when 5 of our top players don’t play it’s an uphill battle to get the win. James Franklin and other big 10 coaches need to get something figured out to get their players wanting to play. Penn St, Ohio St and Florida St had their best players to sit and all 3 teams got their ass kicked. There’s a lot of pride in SEC football brother and it shows up every year during the bowl games. You can also look at who’s winning most of the NC’s the last 20 years. There’s a problem somewhere and the big 10 and ACC coaches need to figure it out. Florida St is 13-0 for goodness sake. 48-3 Georgia smh
Our offense played like they have all year, our defense was missing a few players and their DC. It showed, but I really dont care.
@roaminglion says the guy who’s other team is Alabama. If you were a Falcons fan and Ga Tech fan you’d be crying too lol
Hahahahahahaha@roaminglion says the guy who’s other team is Alabama. If you were a Falcons fan and Ga Tech fan you’d be crying too lol
You will never find Franklin on the list of elite coaches.
The offense scored enough points to win. The defense stunk.
@sky The defense didn’t have their best game but when you have a QB that can’t get first downs and move the chains it kills everything you’re trying to do and it especially kills the defense. Ga Tech had 29 first downs and put up 475 yards and was in position to win the game early in the 4th quarter. Yesterday was the worst QB play I’ve seen at Penn St since Matt Seneca that’s what it was like. I know the kids trying his best and I don’t blame him, it’s James Franklin I blame for leaving him out there destroying his confidence when you have another QB that can make plays sitting on the freaking bench. You could see at the end of the first quarter DA wasn’t going to win that game. Pribula got something going with a TD and they take him freaking out, why?
Jimmy is as Jimmy does, ain't gonna change. Two new coordinators ain't gonna help either. Jimmy has them observe how we do things before letting them coordinate. Read between the lines. They don't have a free rein. It's Jimmy's way or the highway. That's why it didn't take a 2nd thought for JoMo & Manny to jump ship for the first decent offer that came along.
@kularrow Thanks for the laugh. I think Hackenberg's less-than-desired level of performance was due to insufficient coaching and it is possible #15 is suffering from the same condition. Both have / had tremendous physical talent but at times they appear / appeared to lack mental awareness. Similar to Hackenberg, #15 seems to be at his best when he knows where he is going with the ball before the snap.
Maybe we should have potential QB recruits take the Wonderlic test to measure their cognitive ability and evaluate their decision-making and problem-solving skills.
@tae-buetel I would ascribe to your theory if it wasn't for the fact that Hack lasted 2 years and was out of the NFL as well...Some players who possess superior talent don't have the ability to transfer all that talent to success on the field...My personal opinion on Hack was he lacked a feel for the game and my personal opinion on Allar is he plays scared...What concerns me about Allar is he appears to be soft...No fire in the belly...It just happens sometimes...Guys with unlimited talent don't have what it takes intrinsically to succeed...My personal opinion is that Penn State needs to move off of Allar and bring in some competition through the portal...I don't think he is the answer and that is a change as I have consistently been on record on this forum as a big supporter of him...As of yesterday my support has ended...Time to find a QB as I don't think he is the answer...By the way I don't think #9 is the answer either...When you can't throw a backwards pass 15 yards accurately it is tough to take you seriously...Penn State needs to find a QB or 2 and some WRs...
@the-funeral-director yep I agree FD after watching him yesterday done it for me. He just ain’t got it. I jumped on the homer bandwagon last year when I’m on record of wanted more athletic QB’s. I’m still hoping for the kid because I know he’s trying but it’s just not happening on the field. I believe #9 can play and will get better if he gets first string snaps. That was just one bad pass yesterday he’s made some good throws in other games and he’s very good with his feet. Gotta give Pribula a chance like Allar had had. I’m wondering how bad a QB has to play for James Franklin to play for James Franklin to give the backup a chance. We had 6 first downs Early in the 4th quarter smh lol
@southern-psu-fan so you saw what I was seeing at the games I attended. People can blame the OC or receivers as much as they want but Allar just doesn’t create plays and when receivers are open he doesn’t see them.
Maybe we should have potential QB recruits take the Wonderlic test to measure their cognitive ability and evaluate their decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Funny thing is that Allar was only a two or three star until PSU offered him and then all of a sudden he blew up into a five star. It’s like the recruiting guys think JF is a QB guru.
@the-funeral-director yep We had 6 first downs Early in the 4th quarter smh lol
I believe I read somewhere that there were also zero receptions by WR’s through three quarters.
@psujoe I watched it up close and you were right. Pribula played pretty good and threw a TD pass and got benched. I’m still trying to figure that one out. The QB play yesterday was like watching Matt Seneca. Both guys tried their best but just didn’t have what it takes to be a Penn St QB.
I believe it was Roam who opined on this first so I want to credit him with this...We need to go after 1 or 2 of these top portal QB's...Also need to panic and do what it takes to get some WR talent here as well...
Yep - Lane did his homework and realized Penn State really didn't face an up tempo Offense all year, ( that was any good) so he came at them!
So help me out here!
1) Pribula comes in, picks up a first down and then a TD to close the glap by 3. And then they get the ball back with time still on the clock and in comes Allar?
2) Allar starts the second half, looks pathetic and they stay with him?
3) They bring Pribula in for a trick play with Allar and it was a total embarrassment?
4) Down 14 and they try a FG on 4th down late in the game? That gets blocked? I thought JF listens to the Analytics? It said GO FOR IT! For crying out loud, if he makes it, Penn State would have needed two more scores. If they go for it, get it and then score, it is a one score game with what? 3 minutes to go?
This is just my pinion and I know we had great guys out on defense. The defense didn't lose this game! If Pribula plays the second half, I really believe Penn State would have had a very good chance to win this game. Penn State needed to kept their defense off the field and the only way that was going to happen was to switch to their own up tempo offense with Pribula. We ran the ball well at the beginning. But Lane realized Allar was not throwing to his WR's, adjusted and that was then end of the running game.....he had no worries past the LB's. However, when Pribula came in, that threw Kiffen off and he gave up what, a 65 yard drive for a TD. I don't think Kiffen would have had an answer for Pribula for at least the 3rd quarter, which may have kept Penn State in the game until the end.
Do you all remember the last Penn State vs GA game? Down 17-3 at half, they bench Hack, bring in Trace and the game goes down to the wire. Hmmm....wonder what would happened yesterday if they let Pribula stay in only down 3 at half??? Personally, I think Penn State beats both, Michigan and Ohio State with Pribula at QB....and I don't think Pribula is the answer either. Just a better one vs Allar (today).
Here is something we all need to wrap our heads around. As long as JF is the HC, this is best we are going to get. I think he was hired to average 9 winning games a year, make a bowl game and keep the $$ coming in.
Ohio State is on a 0-2 streak. They start out easy in 2024, but Penn State on the road, Oregon on the road and wrap up with Michigan? Let's just see how long Day makes it if loses 3 games next year.....especially with another loss to Michigan. And yes, even after yesterday, I think Penn State will still be a good team in 2024. They just need to figure this offense out, and I am hoping the NEW OC is given some room to make decisions. The defense will be fine, I know the younger kids got beat up a lot, but give them the Spring and a relatively easy schedule to start and they will be ok.
Have a great New Years!
I like what I see in Pribula. I believe he can be another McSorley if he gets the first string snaps. I believe the kid can play. He’s moved the chains in the reps he’s got coming off the bench anyway. Had Hack not got hurt McSorley never would’ve got them snaps in the Georgia game.
@kularrow If you remember Hackenberg did ok with a depleted roster under BOB. Do you remember the OT win against Michigan and the come back win in the Pin Stripe bowl, Franklin gave him the bad rap.
@the-funeral-director They have competition (or had) with Pribula, how else can you explain 11 passes and 4 touchdowns when Allar cannot get the ball to any receivers hands. Just like they had other qbs that left because they did not get a chance after doing what was asked of them for the team, to the point of playing a qb who could barely move. Franklin said he did not pull Allar against OSU because he didn't pull Allar because he didn't want to hurt his feelings so I guess it is screw the other 115 kids on the team no wonder the team constantly quits on him.
