Will be no change next year unless the new OC is given the reins to make player decisions e.g. open the QB up to best man starts. Don't be surprised if Smolik mixes it up. If the DA is the starting QB, well...... On a side note, he just looks like the big kid who hasn't grown into his body e.g. lack of fluidity, and his mechanics ain't exactly good. Ever notice how many of his passes get batted down at the line of scrimmage?
I watch a lot of the Penn State podcasts on Youtube, a favorite is Locked On NittanyLions with Zach Seyko. He is more of an analyst than a reporter such as other shows that I like but I think he brings up some good points. He seems to think that Allar has all the pyhiscal gifts you ever need to be successful college and NFL qb but what he does lack is mental toughness and accumen. I think someone brought this up in an earlier post. I will tell you this, the difference between a Division 1 NCAA Wrestling qualifier and All American is EXACTLY mental toughness and there is one of those on this forum who wishes to be un named. That said, what made Trace McSorley so successful while he was here.... well, that and decent recievers. I hope they can fix this next year and Penn State doesn't become the place where 5 star qb's come to die.
Some call it mental toughness, some call it accumen, I like to call it moxie, lol. Anyway, that's something that stars don't measure. I'll take moxie over stars any day! A lot of our successful QB's down through the years have had it (eg. Robinson, McGloin, McSorely, Clifford,to name the most recent). Some of our star rated and unsuccessful haven't (eg. Hackenberg & Allar).
@rip I had a cat named Moxie, fast and shifty but undisciplined on those curl routes...... and really bad paws. Seriously, I get what you are saying and I think you are spot on especially with the list past successful qb's.
Hello Gents,
Going back to the Penn Live days you guys all knew i wasnt a big fan of the JF hire. Im still not. I honestly tried to give the man the benefit of the doubt but its just not there. There are going to be wins and losses no matter who we have as our HC. In my opinion its not that we lost but rather how we lost. We lose ugly. We dont adjust, adapt or improvise; we stick to the "game plan" and get bit in the ass most times we play a team on our level. There are many that are riding the "we'll be in the playoffs next year" train. I honestly dont see us making the playoffs next year let alone advance in them.
There is a small group of fellow alumni that im still in contact with that have decided not to donate to the football program until changes are made. Will it make a difference to the program financially?? Heavens no. But its a start. the amount we donate while significant to us is but a pint of piss in the ocean. My wife and I will also not be buying season tickets anymore, we're just too damn old and tired to make the trip down to HV anymore. In the past we've donated to both the football and wrestling programs. In the future, we'll be doubling up our monies and donating that to the wrestling program. I can no longer support a program that doesnt seem to want to improve. The return on our investments just isnt there. I'll continue to watch and root for our boys, but JF will not be getting any more money from Tsuga and Peggy. I will say this, if my wife and I are a approached about donating to a JF buyout, we'll gladly write a check for that.
Lake, what do you think about the shit show going on at HCA?? Classic example of the term if you run with dogs, you're gonna get fleas!!!
We need to decide on what kind of QB we want. We have McSorely and recruit Clifford which both QB’s are pretty athletic and then we get get a Prostyle QB. Recruit the dang QB’s that fit our system and DA doesn’t because look at the offense with him at QB VS last year. We bring in Pribula and the chains start moving and we score a TD and Pribula gets benched. Switching back and forth ain’t going to work and if you don’t believe me rewatch the game Saturday. Losing how we lost Saturday is absolutely unacceptable. Smh
Now on a good note, I just had some cone bread, black eye peas, collard greens, Mac Cheese and some ribs baby and I can’t hardly move right now but man it was good lol….oh and send someone down to Georgia and Alabama and figure out how they get their studs to play in bowl games because whatever it is, it’s working just look at the NC’s they’re winning!
@tsuga I'm not sure what the HCA is. If you are referring to the Soldier Salute wrestling tournament and the Ferrari's?
I agree with Tsuga 100 percent and support the decision to donate elsewhere as I would do the same. I said years ago (and got hammered for it) that the reason we won’t win a NC anytime in the near future is because the fan base is complacent and have accepted 9-3 as the plateau with losses to most top teams we face.
I have relatives that are big donors to the football program and I hope they take the same path and donate elsewhere.
@lakerie: Lol.....now you see why i dont post here as often as I used to. I had a stroke a few months back and what use to take a few minutes to type now takes upwards of 30-45 for the long winded posts. I meant to type CHA....Carver Hawkeye Arena. PSUJoe was right all those years ago, I am a senile old fart!!!!
Dammit Lake I even proofread that post and STILL screwed it up.
@tsuga They may take longer to produce, but we here still love hearing from the old man up north, so keep up the good work old friend!
@tsuga that’s hard to hear Tsuga albeit a reality with age. I hope you are able to convalesce successfully. As for what’s going on in Iowa it’s a shame this once proud program that produced so many college and Olympic legends is full of clowns. Such a shame.
What’s going on in Iowa?
@psujoe they gettin that azz kicked in football. Big 10 gotta lot of work to do.
Dang tsuga, I’m sorry to hear that. I’m so glad you’re checking in and I will be saying a prayer for you brother. Please take care buddy you know we love ya.
@southern-psu-fan yes I know that but I was referring to what Tsuga and Lake are talking about. Something to do with wrestling I suppose.
@psujoe Some antics by their wrestlers. The very talented Ferrari family will put 3 in a Hawkeye uniform. There is a lot to unpack here but best to Google the Soldier Salute wrestling tournament and AJ Ferrari. Another talented freshman wrestler , Gabe Arnold displayed clownish, classless behavior at this tournament.
@lakerie: Mr Lake, hope you are doing well. I've attached a link of the end of the Arnold match. As for the Aj and Anthony debacle; I sure hope Iowa knows what they're doing. Sit back and watch the train wreck unfold. Link: https://twitter.com/MrPatMineo/status/1740955001609208029?s=19
@psujoe: The Ferrari brothers both wrestled for Oklahoma State and were both pretty much run out of town for their behavior. The oldest brother (AJ) was lucky to survive a car crash and even luckier that no one was killed in the accident. He also had rape charges filed against him but they were suddenly "dropped" when the accuser decided not to press charges. His brother Anthony was in trouble for some fire-arm charges while at OSU as well. He got into a fight with one of his teammates. There is also a younger brother that has committed to Iowa as well. The two older siblings are trying to get admitted into Iowa's program for the second semester. Theyre not off to a good start.

This is one sport that I don't see any enjoyment in. Men in spandex trying to pin each other to the ground.
Titan.....You are certainly entitled to your opinion but in my opinion that is the stupidest of rationale.
PaKid...thanks for going in to a deeper explanation as for what is going on at Carver and thanks for the clip of Arnold spanking his opponant. I hope he wrestles Carter Staracci on Febuary 9th. Carter will remember Arnold calling him out and it will be ugly. Its too bad because Arnold and the Ferrari gang are incredibly talented wrestlers. I understand the Ferrari father and uncle are "out there" as well. Clearly this is a case of unguided parenting...(I'm really trying to be nice.)
I am not into the sport that much either, but certainly respect the hell out of the athletes. They are some serious dudes, spandex or not. The only reason I pay attention to it is because of Penn State and our dominace.@lakerie: Mr Lake, hope you are doing well. I've attached a link of the end of the Arnold match. But again, I respect it a ton. Much like Hockey and Basketball, which I'm also not that into. However, many people really hate watching soccer... but I love it! To each their own.
World's oldest sport

Not sure how I missed this post. Glad you're feeling better!
Not to one up you or anything, but it's always taken me forever to type and at times proofread things 4 or 5 times and still get it wrong. So you're still way ahead of me. Count your blessings, get back to typing here on a regular basis. Keep practicing and it'll come back. Just like shooting, it's muscle memory my Jarheaded Brother. (yeah, I know, that doesn't explain my huntin' & peckin'. lol and that was even part of my MOS. How I made it through ELINT school is beyond me.)
Oh and another Laker;
You hear about the two houses that fell in love? They had a lawn-distance relationship.
