Southern, you used Georgia as an example but then said you wish we'd only play one gimme game a year.

Georgia plays two gimme games a year, usually one against an FCS team and another against Middle Tennessee or some Sun Belt team. So why use Georgia as an example, but then say we should have a schedule harder than theirs???

I'm fine playing two gimme games a year. Clemson, Alabama, etc. all do it.

I said I wish all teams would step up and play better games not just us. These gimme games ain’t nothing but making more money because it’s another home game. Georgia does give up a home game every other year because they play Ga Tech and play Florida in Jacksonville that why I used them as an example.

Roam, I don’t see Va Tech being a very tough game I see that game the same as I see Pitt, Iowa and Ga Tech. I believe Ga Tech has put it on Va Tech the last few years.clemson, Auburn, Alabama, USC are tough games. WV is an average team as well. Roam now that the sanctions are behind us I’m for playing the big boys not just average teams. I love big time college football games especially when penn st is in them.

The seven home games are also money makers for local businesses (hotel, restaurants, bars, etc.) who rely on this money every year.

What I don't understand SPF is why would PSU do something different than everyone else is doing? Our schedule is no different than any other school except for the B1G having 9 conference games vice other conferences scheduling 8.

Fl Ga game is not a good example. That game has been played in Jacksonville by mutual agreement of both schools since 1933 and sells out every year of 85,000+.except for 1994 & 1995 when they did a home and home BUT, the schools agreed and went back to playing in Jacksonville ever since. Both schools are rewarded handsomely for it! It is mutually beneficial for both schools so they are not giving up anything/a home game. They are both in the same division in the SEC and play each other every year regardless of whether it is in JAX or in their home stadiums so it really has no bearing on out of conference or playing gimme games which this conversation was about.

One other thing. The reason why the game was originally scheduled to play in JAX is because back in the 1930's transportation was an issue and it was easy for fans of both schools to attend the game in JAX by train rather that remote Athens or Gainesville. And it was a great call because the game has sold out each year.

The other thing you need to realize is the Fl Ga game is almost like a bowl game in the respect that there are activities all week long leading up to the Saturday game. For example, the Bull Gator luncheon, Fl Ga Hall of Fame induction ceremony, a concert and  whole host of other activities. I worked (part-time) at that stadium for over 15 years and I can tell you it is much more than just a game on the schedule.

I said I wish all teams would step up not just penn st. I’m ok with playing Va Tech and Temple as long as we are playing Pitt. Temple and Va Tech aren’t powerhouse football teams. Get some big boys on the schedule like Auburn, Texas, USC, Florida, Oklahoma or Clemson. If we drop Pitt and add buffalo Va Tech and WV or temple  just ain’t good enough. Navylion we’re back to full strength so it’s time to play all the big dawgs especially if it’s goi g to be just one touch OOC game out of 4. I see in 2025 Ohio st is playing Washington and Texas and we play temple I think. I know it can’t be done overnight but penn st needs to step up the schedule and get the big boys on it. Ohio st schedule is a joke  ext year. I’m quite sure Alabama will play us if a phone call is made.

2026 Ohio st plays Texas and Boston college. That’s a good OOC schedule and that’s what I want us to do. 2025 is Washington and Texas that’s a great OOC schedule.

Well 2024-2026 is not filled yet so we'll see what happens. 24, 25 & 27 still have 1 game slot open and 26 has 2 still open.

Navylion I was looking at Texas and they play LSU, Michigan, Ohio st and Alabama. These are some big time football games. On penn st’s defense they may not have thought James Franklin would get this team back this quick and they scheduled teams that they thought we could beat or had a good chance of beating anyway. I understand it can’t be fixed overnight and when they made the schedule they thought they were doing what was best for penn st at the time.

They are better than Virginia, who is on Georgia's schedule in 2020. Let's stop acting like the Bulldogs are scheduling titans every year.

Good luck seeing those schedules coming to fruition. My bet is one of those good games drops off their schedule before we get to 2025.

Want to know who Ohio State is playing over the next few years?

Florida Atlantic, Cincinnati, Miami (Ohio), Bowling Green, Buffalo, Oregon, Tulsa, and Akron. Yeah, Ohio State is really going all out on those OOC games.

SPF, When Ga plays at Tech, does Tech make Ga fans purchase other games in addition to the Ga game?  Pitt makes non season ticket holders buy tickets to other games, such as Youngstown State, Albany or some other "marquee" game.  To Pitt, Penn State is their MNC game and they sell out.  I don't think Pitt offers a free beverage to fans who stay for the entire game against Penn State.  Did Tech veto Ga's admission into the ACC the way that Pitt did to Penn State trying to join an all sports Big East?  Pitt is not a rivalry.

ND Clemson UCLA Texas is what Georgia has coming up on their OOC schedule Roam that is some dang good competition. They do have Virginia and they play Ga Tech every year. We have Pitt, Auburn, Va Tech and temple and IMO besides Auburn we ain’t going to get any respect playing most of these teams. Joe Paterno always schedule Alabama USC Texas Nebraska when they were good and ND so it’s time that James Franklin get some beef on the schedule. I love James Franklin as much as anybody but he needs to step up the schedule. Like I said James Franklin got this team back in championship form faster than most thought he would but I can’t give him a pass on scheduling  stinking Temple  when we both know he had a hand in it unless they make these schedules without him knowing about it. Navylion did point out there’s still some open dates to add some big boys to the schedule but Va Tech, Pitt and temple ain’t no big boys. I’d like to see Oklahoma Texas Alabama Clemson Florida and teams like ‘em. We’re penn st Roam we don’t want chicken noodle soup teams to beat up on we want the big dawgs baby. We don’t run from the big dawgs we run after ‘em.

I don’t know navyjag I’ve only been to a few Ga and Ga Te h games and the last one was in 99 and the tickets were always given to me so I really don’t know. Let’s drop Pitt and find a team like Syracuse or WV and play them every year and play a team like Alabama. We ain’t goi g to get any respect playing all these cupcakes. Play Auburn, WV and one gimme game and we’ll get respect. I think Ohio st has lost a little respect because of all the cupcakes they’ve been playing lately. The big 10 has enough cupcakes in it already so no need to add more to the schedule. Brother when I’m sitting in these truck stops talking smack with all these SEC fans and they ask me who y’all got this week I don’t want to say buffalo lol I’d rather say Clemson lol. I love big time college football games with penn st in ‘em

Ohio st did play Oklahoma 2 times. TCU is just another Pitt IMO. I’m not a Pitt hater because I was raised in the south but I do like beating up on ‘em though. I like watching their coach when they’re taking it on the chin lol so does my man  navylion lol

UCLA... WTF? They suck Southern. Worse than VT and WVU for sure. You're also not comparing apples to apples. You are listing Texas and UCLA, which are in 2026 on. We don't even have any teams scheduled there yet.

You may not like VT, but I'm sorry Southern they aren't "the same" as GT. They have won the ACC Championship 3 times since joining, only 1 behind Florida State. They've also played in the Championship game something like 6 or 7 times. They are usually ranked, and many expect them to be ranked again soon.

WV, UCLA and Va Tech are on the same level. They can be good some years and bad some years. Playing these teams if you’re playing Pitt or Ga Tech is a good OOC schedule. Not great but good. Playing these teams and playing buffalo or temple ain’t worth a crap.

Southern, you've got to stop this pure nonsense. TCU is "another Pitt"? What????

1. TCU has been ranked in the top 10 five times in the last ten years. Pitt hasn't even been ranked 5 times in that period.

2. TCU has played in 3 BCS/NY6 bowl games and won 2 of them, and has 6 bowl wins in those 10 years. Pitt has 3 bowl victories in 10 years, and played in zero BCS/NY6 bowls. Their biggest bowl victory was the Meineke Car Care Bowl

Nonsense. UCLA hasn't won a Pac-12 title, and has only been ranked 3 times this century and you're going to tell me that they are on the same level as a school who has won 4 ACC Championships, played in 7 ACC Championships, and has been ranked 12 times???

Southern, you're seriously off base if you consider UCLA (Who plays in what you call the weakest conference in football, yet has never won it) anywhere close to Virginia Tech this century. Com on man, that's completely ridiculous.

10 win seasons - VT: 10 / UCLA : 3
Conference Championships - VT: 4 / UCLA: 0
Ranked- VT:12 / UCLA: 3
Top 10 finishes -VT: 4 / UCLA:1

These teams aren't even close.

Roam we’ve won the last 3 games but they have a 9-7 record against us. Same level of play plus we’ve won way more NC’s than they have and we’ve won the ACC and played in the ACC championship games about 5 or 6 times since they joined. We’ve kicked their butts the last 3 years so I’d say we are better. That bunch ain’t got no where near the football history as Ga Tech. I’d also bet we’ve won more bowl games than Va Tech.

And we’ll kick their AZZ again this year just wait and see!

So what? I said VT was better than UCLA this century (by far), I didn't argue they were historically better than GT.

They’ve even a little better but still the same competition if they  play us. We’d best the  chit out of both teams. Both are average at best today. UCLA has a better future IMO because of the coach they have.

By the way, I don't know if this had been mentioned but Texas is in negotiations with us to play a home and home.

I’d like to get Georgia on the schedule also. Joe Paterno did try but Georgia only wanted one game in Athens and Penn st said no which they should’ve said no. Georgia used the excuse of playing Florida and Ga Tech is why they couldn’t travel up north. This was back in 05. I heard it on 680 the fan sports talk
