Maybe I’m wrong but I just think we need some big time teams on the schedule. Va Tech, Pitt and temple ain’t good enough if we want some respect. It’s all good buddy this is what makes it fun lol

We played garbage teams in 2008 & 2009, and in 2012+ PSU and Paterno had basically garbage teams lined up to play in the future. In 2006/2007 we played ND. 2003 was the last time we played two bigger conference teams in OOC when we played BC and Nebraska.

Since 2003 we scheduled big dawgs in 06-07 and 10-11... Our biggest games outside those 4 years were Syracuse, Virginia, and Oregon State. All those games were paired with games against MAC schools or even some FCS games.  We weren't lighting the world on fire with our OOC schedules.

Rutgers, Idaho, and Portland State were enough to get Washington into the 2016 playoff. You say Pitt isn't enough for us to get respect, but ironically had we played Idaho instead of Pitt that year we would have been in the playoff instead of Washington. LMAO.

We had Alabama for 2006 and 2007 but they back out if I remember right and we reschedule the game so that’s not joes fault unless you want to fault him for letting them out of the games. Mal Moore ask paterno to reschedule because he said Alabama was t good enough to play us. That’s why 06 and 07 was weak. I may have the years wrong about Alabama

We were supposed to play them in 2004/2005, and I already said we played ND in 2006/2007. We played garbage in 2008/2009 and had we not pushed Alabama to 2010/2011 who knows who we would have been playing because 2012-on had garbage too.

As I recall, the games against Bama were rescheduled at Bama's request because they were on or just coming off probation. Yea, we should have beaten them one of those games, but we could have also played them when they were limited.

Let me just say this, we ain’t ever going to get any respect beating up on Pitt, Va Tech and temple it’s that simple. Maybe our OOC schedule was mediocre when joe was coaching but we did play Alabama, ND, Miami, USC and they did try and get a game with Georgia but the pups only wanted to play one game in Athens. That’s from 1999-2011. That’s some pretty tough games in that 10 year stretch considering they played 2 times each team.

Personally I'd like to see either of these scenarios:

1 Big Dawg Power 5 and 2 lower quality teams, for example: Georgia, Akron, Idaho
-or-
2 average/lower Power 5's and 1 lower quality team, for example: Oregon State, Arkansas, Kent State

I just think a Big Dawg + and Power 5 is too much with only 3 OOC games. It's rarely done, and when it is done the team usually suffers a bad loss somewhere. I don't think 2 gimme games is bad at all (especially when you are playing a top 10 team OOC), that still leaves 10 Power 5 games on the schedule.

You could do both every other cycle... 2020/21 have a Big Dawg, 2022/23 have 2 Power 5's, 2024/25 have a big dawg, etc. I think PSU would get a ton of respect doing that.

Lastly, I'd also stay away from any Power 5 schools in the northeast, there's no reason at this point to play them. We already have the northeast recruiting wise, so any Power 5 OOC game we play should be outside our footprint in the South, Texas area, or West Coast.

sad

If rivalries are a concern, then stagger scheduling Pitt and Syracuse every 4 years. Something like:

2020/21 - Pitt, Oregon State, Kent State
2022/23 - Texas, Akron, Temple
2024/25 - Syracuse, Arkansas, Eastern Michigan
2026/27 - Auburn, Ohio, Villanova
2028/29 - Pitt, Baylor, Central Michigan

...and so on. This way you are scheduling a regional rivalry or big dawg game every year.

I like it Roam. I don’t mind 2 gimme games if the other game is Alabama but if we play va tech then play Pitt to. We do have to consider we play Michigan and Ohio st every year and that’s 2 brutal games plus the other decent teams in the big 10. I don’t want to kill the players I just don’t think Pitt or Va Tech is good enough. I can see it now if we go 12-1 and win the big 10 and Oklahoma goes 12-1 and wins the big 12 and they play Ohio st as their OOC game and we play Pitt the scam committee will make up another rule as we go and say Oklahoma’s OOC win was better than penn st’s so we’ll take Oklahoma and that’s exactly what their excuses will be lol

Not a BAMA supporter by any stretch, however, you might want to be careful what you wish for.  BAMA going up Happy Valley in November as a means of putting them at a disadvantage might not end well.  First of all, the cold is not that much of a disadvantage for a warm weather team as the heat is for a cold weather team.  I would not put all my nickels in that bucket.

Not sure where you got this idea, but statistics routinely show that cold weather teams do well in warm weather and warm weather teams do worse in cold weather.

I love competition and it don’t get any bigger than the Tide brother. I’ll put Penn st up against any team now we are getting back to full strength. James Franklin is building something special at penn st with all the studs he’s bringing in and IMO it’s time we go after the big dawgs.
