Will be a tough go for them. But remember, PSU was written off as week old, summer heat, maggot infested, roadkill after "it".....not that NW had much to begin with.
Too bad. I always thought the guy was a class act. You never know what you never know. My gut tells me he was set up, but who am I to say.
The detailed hazing by former player and internal documents is absolutley disgusting. Players sexually assualting other players? WTF?

Same kind of thing recently happened in a local high school in my area, have to wonder how long crap like that has been going on.
@psujoe I could be wrong but i thought I read where there was an investigation by a lawyer and no evidence was found but then the article went on to say it was possible nobody was looking hard enough to find any evidence. I may have read it wrong so don’t hold me to this.
@southern-psu-fan Not sure if it's the same explanation. The report I heard, said that there wasn't evidence pointing to any specific player(s). It happened in the dark and players had masks on....or something along that line.
@been-there-ii It’s hard for me to believe Fitz lay garbage like that go on and be ok with it. Other players defended Fitz so it’s hard to know what the truth is but my gut says Fitz didn’t know.
@southern-psu-fan Kinda like Joe Pa. You believe what your heart tells you until you see real evidence. Not just the, "Well, you're the coach, you're in charge, you had to have known something" narrative.
@been-there-ii just read he’s got a lawyer because he feels like he was done wrong. I’m just paraphrasing what I read. Looks like the president of the school fired him after they discussed he would only be suspended until the facts come out.

The difference here is that he was the head coach, and his players are the ones who were doing the hazing and being hazed. This isn't a situation where a coach was doing things outside of the team. It was all going on within the program Pat Fitzgerald ran.
That is a very big distinction. Oh... and Paterno actually did report it when he found out.
Where's the NCAA?????? Where's Mark when we need him??? How about the illustrious MS. Gannim?????? Why isn't PennLive's Wiretap Jones weighing in on this???? Does Espin have an expose on this culture problem in the works?????? I guess Fitzgerald isn't a "legend" or maybe he hasn't stepped on enough people's toes.
Honestly, I just don't get it! I am sure we could all share some crazy stories about being teenagers, but this stuff is just over the top for me. What happened to the days of getting a good pink belly and moving on!! One would have to believe after the Penn State fiasco, coaches would have tightened up their programs. Doesn't seem to be the case at all! And what are the parents doing? I didn't raise a bunch of angels, but I did teach them common sense and not to be idiots! Good grief!!

Oh it was around when I was at PSU, and I've never understood it. I had a couple of friends in frats and they told me about some of the hazing stuff, it was.... disturbing. Even then as a kid in his late teens I wondered what the heck they were thinking.
@roaminglion I'm with ya Roam. I was trying to get across is, let's wait for the facts to come out before getting out the torches and pitchforks.
There are a lot of twists and turns in this story. Fitzgerald was loyal to Paterno. I respected him. With wokism running universities today, Fitzgerald’s career is likely done.

His players were sexually assaulting other players, that doesn't have anything to do with wokism. It's not too hard to figure out that stripping someone naked, tying them to equipment, and grinding your private parts all over them is... you know... "bad". The only thing to determine is if Fitzgerald is responsible for the behavior of the players he was in charge of.
@sky Your comment makes no sense and we are all dumber for reading it. This incident has NOTHING to do with Paterno and Fitzgerald’s loyalty to him and it has NOTHING to do with “wokism”. It’s about, you know, common sense and treating others with respect. Nothing else.

Correct. Always respected the guy. Sorry to see him go down.
Every year we hear kids dying or getting hurt from hazing. Just looks to me all coaches should tell players that it’s automatic kicked off the team if you are involved in hazing. I don’t know much about hazing but what I read every year it ain’t good.

Good points. The investigation showed he was unaware. There is so much crap that goes on within football programs without the coach’s knowledge including PSU. There are many people who still believe that “ Joe knew.” The facts proved differently.
Over time more information will emerge. I don’t think the entire story has been told.
I don't give a horses patoot about wokeism. I guess you could say I'm not woke. However, i do have a problem with a rush to judgement and the concept of guilty until proven innocent. God forbid we take the time to do due diligence and get all the facts before assessing appropriate punishment as warranted.

Northwestern did two seperate investigations and interviewed multiple former athletes. They found internet forums where players posted lists of victims and who was "next".
Just because the news media broke the story a week ago doesnt mean that is when NW first heard about it.
I'm not talking about that. I was referring to what Fitzgerald knew or didn't know about those carryings on. As far as I can tell, it's the old story.... he's the head coach so he had to know.
