It's now up to 3 local HS teams that pack it in just as the season is ending. Again, low numbers, lack of participation and the injuries just make it worse. A guy just told me at a playoff game. Googled it, BAM, there it was. I watched the patterns over the last couple years. Matter of fact, I already said a few years ago that our local teams are in danger of folding. Guy laughed at me and I've already been told that I'm a negative Nelly. No, I'm not. Telling you just as I saw it and how it ended. The guy I was next to at tonight's game was leaning up against the fence telling me that he is seeing the same thing. Kids quitting half way through the season. Also told me where a group in NY is already talking about banning tackle football in youth organizations. That I'm not sure about.Â
The most popular American game is in danger. Football as we know it is in danger. Â
As most of you know I live in New York... The talk here is to ban tackle football for kids 12 and under...Pipe you have a very relevant post here and are making a solid point... Out of curiosity which 3 schools are folding up their football programs? The truth is these kids today don't have the interest in sports like people of my generation did...All these young kids are interested in is playing with their cell phones computers and video game consoles...eSports is the big thing anymore...These kids would rather play madden football on a video game console than play real football on a field...Honest to God I hate to say it but I think Pipe is right...I don't know how much longer football has but I fear the end is near between the head injuries, lack of commitment from the kids and liability expense... Enjoy it while we can cause I don't think the sport has 20 years left. ..Â
I am being serious here Pipe... Who are the 3 high schools that shut down their football programs ?
Actually 4 teams. A team out of Dunmore packed it in before the season. The first team that packed it in prior to near season ending was Marion. Followed by Shenandoah valley blue devils, then Bloomsburg. Of all schools, Bloomsburg! I'm not liking this at all. Â

I'm afraid you're right, FD. AND it's not only youth and HS football! Look what's happening with college football - pay issues, transfer portal. IMO, 20 years left is overly optimistic!

That's Marian HS (a Catholic school near Tamaqua) not Marion! Â

Sorry. Yep, the same school Hackenberg uncle or cousin coaches at. A once very competitive team on the brinks of folding. Additionally, the head coach just packed it in.Â
My son says colleges give scholarships for E-Sports now. I laughed.
So we have two clear trends: 1) Make everything safe, 2) kids being less active/athletic whether it is sports, fishing, camping. I believe the anti football because football players are abusive is a fringe argument.
Football is rough, so is construction work, working in a foundry etc. But not as rough as some of the crazy adrenaline sports we watch our kids do. There is just so much to do now adays and never do you go by a grass patch and see an unorganized game going on. Mommies can't allow our kids out in the unsafe world. They might get kidnapped. 🤨Â

We’re raising a bunch of spoiled little wimpy kids. More kids are playing sports so they’ll be more kids gettin hurt. Sitting in the house watching tv and playing video games all day hurts kids worse that sports. I believe contact sports makes tougher  men out of kids but that might be why some want to do away with contact sports. Football, wrestling, basketball and even soccer are tough sports and it’s good for kids IMO
Absolutely Keyrect Southern! I do have a problem with youth soccer since the season coincides with football. I think it definitely syphons off a lot of youth who normally would give football a try. IMO the soccer mom's see it as the lesser of two evils. They're ok with soccer but prefer that you don't keep score!

Even though our girl is only 7 months old, my wife and I have already committed that she'll be in multiple sports (soccer, basketball, baseball/softball, fencing) and also we will encourage her to go outside to just simply play in the mud and get dirty. Family trips? Sure... we will take her to Disney once in a while but not all the time. Road trips to Yellowstone, Yosemite, Crater Lake, etc. will be often. Get out into nature, learn to respect it.
Video games are okay, but not until she's older and certainly not all day long. My wife and I grew up in households that didn't have a great deal of money, only when we were older did both our parents start making really good money. We weren't poor, but certainly not well off when we were young. The issue we're both concerned with is we're well off now, so we really want to teach our daughter how to work for what you get without spoiling her too much. We have the means to do so, but looking at what it's done to so many other kids we really don't want to go down that road. So many kids are entitled do*chb*gs.
