They can wipe their arse now along with the stupid committees forming to seperate public and catholic schools.

Yeah, let's seperate the catholic and private schools because of unfairness.  Lmao!

The PIAA will now have to form groups with Neurological doctors and all major helmet manufacturers to save the sport.

Time is ticking away and real fast. On top of that just about every major news outlet are hosting stories with doctors of the long term effects of repetitive blows to the head.

Well I have to agree with you here Pipe...I believe they are going to disband all of the 12 and under tackle football leagues in New York after this year...I honestly wonder how much longer there will be football as we know it...It is quite alarming to me not just that 4 teams have or are packing in their football programs but who they are and the towns they are from...I mean Marion Catholic? Bloomsburg? Dunmore? Shenandoah Valley? Lord almighty...The 1st 3 are just shocking...Dunmore is a football crazy place...There is real reason and cause for concern here...This to me is just shocking...

Dunmore didn't stop playing football, Holy Cross in Dunmore didn't field a team this year. BIG DIFFERENCE.

Yes FD, I'm shocked too. I don't want to see this continue. I really don't know what to say.

Meh... Holy Cross was created in 2009 because of the dwidling enrollment of two catholic schools. The enrollment has continued to decline, so it's not really a football issue there. They just aren't getting a ton of students to begin with.

Repetitive blows to the head may have some merit but Soccer may be worse than football and the boxing data is an issue.  After Football we have Hockey.  The new football helmet will be a better absorber, they will cost more, they will have a life span and the makers will be happy to propose one that needs replaced/re-certified.

Lets make things safer by outlawing that you can be on the streets after dark in Philly, DC, Chicago.  At what point is risk allowed and is a person allowed to accept any risk for themselves.  Or their Mommy allowed to accept any risk for them.   Got to ride bike with a helmet, ski with a helmet, lawn jarts outlawed, soft little league baseballs, you know those ice skates are sharp and can cut you and pole vaulting must be stopped.  My concussion is from running into an outfielder, my brothers a tree (sledding), other brother concrete floor playing streethockey.  Slippery slope.

Is it possible that High School Football is expensive and some administrations are OK not supporting it?  It is the biggest social event at a HS?  Basketball 2nd?

But legalizing drugs and letting 16 year olds drive, talk about dangerous!

OK, I'll chime in here:

Holy Cross barely had a program for the last 8 years.  Not a surprise they folded.

Here is whats happening:

Families aren't as big as they used to be. In the 60s eight-ten siblings was common.  Those people had children in the schools in the mid 70s-80s adn that carried over to the 90s when stadiums were bursting, but average family size decreased to 3-4 per household. In the 80s, size of families decreased even farther and it's common to see only 1-2 kids per household. School districts in middle America are shrinking. Westmont used to be a town of 14K, now its 4K. Same for neighboring Conemaugh Twp.  School enrollments are dropping in rural areas. That's why the forfeits we are seeing are in small school programs, they just don't have enough kids to support programs. Add in soccer, video games, laziness among teens and it drops even more. Solution: districts in rural areas need to start merging.

As for the injury study, we've been educating families and showing them that football is safer now than ever before. Soccer is right up there with concussions but no outcry. It's a political machine against football.  They're using studies done on players that were involved in the sport when safety was an after thought.

Another factor that led to the over 30 game cancellations is the new rules we've placed on transfers. Kids arent going to the private academies as much. Nearly half the cancellations this year were from private schools.

Those are the main factors this year. Another is training. Some schools just aren't keeping up with off season programs like others are. This is causing more injuries as those who haven't worked as hard are getting smacked by those who have.

Yes, I agree. Off season training is a factor in some programs. I saw that  during regular season games this year.  Players with hands on their hips in 1st quarter, tongue hanging out, thirsty, slow, no discipline.  Lack of conditioning.  I'm very high on conditioning even in general.  Got to keep motivated, that's my motto.  I hate when I hear people complain they are sore, back hurts. Well, why does your back hurt? Because lack of excersise,  that's why. Yes, I understand some people have medical issues,  but for those who don't,  there is no excuse.
