IMO Johnson wasn't capable of being the #1 option for the offense. With Barkley, Hamilton, and Gesicki he wasn't the focal point, and early on in 2018 it was quite apparent he was not #1 WR material. Once defenses shifted towards Hamler he was able to break out a bit, but nothing to write home about.
To me, he's a great #2. IMO he doesn't have the speed or quick breaks to be a #1. If Shorter and Dotson step into the starting roles like we all think they can, the combo of those two with Hamler will be just as, if not more dangerous. Not to mention all the other WRs that we have as well.
In 2017 after the Iowa game I thought he was going to be the next Godwin, but as the year went on you could see that he just wasn't as gifted physically as Godwin was.
