@tsuga Thanks Tsuga , hopefully this settles ChickenLittle aka kularrow and Southern down for a while.
Good luck in your quest for that big buck !
P.S. I'm thinking he meant Joe Brady not Tom Brady !!
Dammit Remoh I did mean Joe. Good catch. I even proof read the the damn thing and still got it wrong.
Remember back in the days on Pennlive when you used to call me a senile old fart?? Well it applies now.
To the gang that's bitching about the timing of the CJF firing: it had to be done. He kept wanting more and more and his going behind Kraft's back to get another pay raise didnt sit well with Pat or many of the donors. Franklin's mouth was writing checks his ass couldn't cover. You guys all know that I never wanted him hired in the first place. He wore out his welcome, not by the losses so much as the way we lost. A vast majority of us donors just had the tea-totalling shits of his pompous ass. With the monies being tight with the renovations to the stadium, Kraft couldn't alienate the donors from the school any longer. It was the donors that pushed to have him shit-canned. This is why the money is starting to flow in again.
Sorry for the rant
BT......Sempre Fi brother
It is great to see you back in here old Marine!!! Glad to see you still have some piss and vinegar rolling through ya...I want to thank you for popping in and throwing some factual insight at us instead of us throwing darts and guessing...I am not as high on Drink as everyone else but his record of success in undeniable...2 things leap out at me from your post...The first is that Kiffin is in the mix and 2nd is that it appears Cignetti is out...That tells me something that I have suspected all along...Money isn't going to be an issue when it comes to bringing in the coach that the money guys choose...Kiffen has a hefty buyout...If you have been reading my posts you are aware of who I like and who I am luke warm on...The folks with the hands on involvement regarding this process are privileged to see things regarding these candidates that us folks in the cheap seats aren't privy to which there is no doubt are significant indicators of how good of a fit the candidate will be for the program...Even a person on the outside could see firing Franklin had to be done and that as long as they bring in the right replacement the program will be much better off...I have also said not to worry about the lost recruits (spilled milk) because the new HC is going to bring in juice and will restock this roster in short order and with better players...Always great to hear from you Tsuga and hopefully you get that big buck in short order...Don't be a stranger and it will be great if you could pop in after everything is announced and give us the play by play on how they came to decide on the eventual new head football coach at Penn State...Be well and pass on my regards to the wife and PA Kid...
LOL...I second that...AK gotta go...He should have been canned with Franklin along with the WR coach...
And now this:
According to Penn State reporter Jon Sauber of Centre Daily, Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key is the current frontrunner to be the Nittany Lions next head coach as of Friday morning.
@tsuga so why hasn’t Kotelnicki been fired yet? My brother in law told me everyone wanted him gone and he was going to be fired by the bye week but obviously that didn’t happen.
The old man asked me to pinch hit for him on this one. FD, the old war horse doesnt have the piss and vinegar that he once had, but he wanted me to tell you SPECIFICALLY that he's still buying green bananas.
As far as he knows, AK was the back-up parachute should Terry Smith run into any troubles. AK might not want to be thinking about having an in-ground pool dug at his house or plan any renovations for that matter. There's a slight chance that he's retained, but Pap seriously doubts it. Theyre hoping that JF poaches him and fearful that he takes Bowles with him to V-Tech.
He says to tell you that the old guard was pissed off that they allowed Moorhead to leave and never bothered to give a counter offer to him to stay. We havent had an OC that could make halftime adjustments like he did. We still took our losses, but we went down with a fight. Can you imagine have a DC like Manny and an OC like Moorhead at the same time?? Those two were outstanding when it came to half time adjustments.
He wants y'all to know that my grandmother is doing well he doesnt let her out of his sight for too long. My wife and kids are up here in Maine for an extended T-giving stay to let the old fart do his hunting while my wife and mom keeps and eye on my grandmother. My 3 boys are doing well; 6 more and I can field a wrestling team.
Joe, he wanted you to know how much he envies you in that you get to hunt PA deer every year. He really misses that. He also wanted to know what you think of the Saturday opener as opposed to the Monday opener.
SPF, keep being you and stop eating those disgusting fried chicken livers.
BT, Im supposed to tell you that his red-headed neighbor is still single and she's willing to travel.
Peace out gang,
I'll try to stay in touch. But it is wrestling season
@thepakid we love hearing from you guys and speaking of wrestling my 2 grandsons are 6 and 2 and both started wrestling a few weeks ago and the 6 year old had his first 3 matches Thursday night and the little chump won all 3 matches man that kid has a high motor. When he runs around the house I get tired watching him. Man I loved watching him but this is the first time I’ve ever seen kids wrestling this little and it was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen in sports and I felt guilty pulling for Liam after he won because it’s so fun watching the other little kids smile having that much fun. Middle school and high school and college is different this is little innocent sweet kids I felt so sorry for’em and trust me I’m not one of those every kid gets a trophy dude but it broke my heart 😂 Wyatt just rolls around in practice he can’t compete for another year or 2 he’s just out there having fun lol
Guess we can officially rule out Ruhl, he doesn't win big games either.
Raise Request = Tone Deaf (prove something first, getting to the playoffs with an easy draw is not results above your current compensation, he must have thought that entitled him to leverage for a raise. You lost to ND!)
Loosing to UCLA and NW and then saying we have some things to work on and I take responsibility .... was ... almost condescending. All he was saying was I'm not blaming the players or other coaches. Good Idea...it will not work.
The final nail was the onside kick and drive to go down 14-0 to UCLA. NW was just more justification. He was not getting into the playoffs after the UCLA loss, did people really believe he would go 10-2 with the rest of the schedule.
Listening to the team love on Smith and it seems they got over JF real quick.
So he got a pay cut but I don't expect we will see him at Aldis buying Ramen Noodles. VT may be a good place, he can dominate VA and the ACC. Remember 'Dominate PA'.
@been-there-ii manny Diaz or Pat Fitzgerald…that’s my story and I’m sticking to it until we find out who it’s going to be 😂 With either one of these dudes we’re championship ready day 1 and Terry Smith pretty much has a job. Get on the rip and southern train you know this train is all about winning baby that funeral director and Roam train is only about a splash and looking good 😂
@southern-psu-fan Fitzgerald would already been known if it was him, and i think they should give Manny Knowles money but keep him at DC if he gets fired, I think it is too tough to coach a position when a head coach, there are too many other things to worry about
I read Fitz was pretty much vindicated, he won his lawsuit against NW. Sad that his school ran him like JoePa. Seems he is cleaner than some X FL and OSU Coach. He had some good years and then a bad year or two. Maybe the hazing that was assigned to him was more about a bad year. Maybe like PSU it was just easier to throw the head coach under the Blue Bird.
Hazing? I bet that definition has gotten incredibly broad and soft.
Culturally it would seem Fitz is a good fit for the old PSU culture. I'm not sure what the current culture is but the hire may give us a hint.
@cohappy i agree about Fitz but we won’t know until a coach is hired. I honestly don’t know who it will be but if it’s a dude that we could’ve already got why destroy 2 recruiting classes? If it’s Harline which is who I’m guessing it is the decision should’ve already been made. If it’s Lane Kiffin I get it. I just hope it’s not a coach that we’re waiting on to lose enough games so we can get him heck that’s why we fired James Franklin. I heard Buffalo is is out or close to being out of the playoffs so if it was Joe Brady I would assume we would know but regardless he’s an OC that move should already been made just like with BOB.
the reason I’m thinking Harline is because Jim Knowles is already under contract and somebody on here said Penn St wanted to hang on to Knowles. Harline brings some offense. Gotta give Jim Knowles some love because the defense does look better and we’ve been gettin after the QB these last few games. Defense played great last night.
Makes sense that at best Fitz is Plan B or he would be named.
- Any internal reason not to name a coach before Rutgers?
- What does 'decommited' really mean in this current NIL NCAA world? I mean everyone is decommited waiting to see what players the new coach brings with him to replace them. I hate to say football prostitutes, 'commited' and 'prostitute' don't really go together.
- Date for transfer portal decisions? Not entering but 'recommiting'.
- Date for new commits (High School Seniors)?
@underlion Fitz is ready day 1 to be a HC that’s why I love the idea of him being our next HC
So Manny Diaz who has not been a great HC at Miami or Duke is somehow making us "Championship ready on day 1"?@been-there-ii manny Diaz or Pat Fitzgerald…that’s my story and I’m sticking to it until we find out who it’s going to be 😂 With either one of these dudes we’re championship ready day 1 and Terry Smith pretty much has a job. WTF? Because he was a great DC for 1 year in 2023?
Decommited means nothing today. Brian Hartline is named PSU cosch and I guarantee you within days we'd have big time WR recruits. Probably a bunch of kids reaffirm their commitment too. I'd expect even if we had a new coach by now, half the class or more would probably be following Franklin to VT anyway. It's the nature of the business.Makes sense that at best Fitz is Plan B or he would be named.

@roaminglion Duke was 9-4 last year and can go 7-5 this year the same as Elko. I’m not judging Manny on what went on at Miami because all the teams in Florida have sucked for years. He was average at Miami at 21-15 so you’re not being fair. Average at Miami and the same as Elko at Duke. He was also good for 2 years at Penn St as DC.
With Thanksgiving coming I’m starting to think that the #1 thing I’ll be giving thanks for is that Southern is not the guy picking Penn States next coach.
JUST SAY NO TO MANNY !
So he was 9-4 with Elko's team and worse with more of his guys? And Miami doesn't count because other coaches who were average also weren't great there? And 21-15 is good at Miami when everyone this century had more wins at Miami than he did?@roaminglion Duke was 9-4 last year and can go 7-5 this year the same as Elko. You're doing what you always do... I say I don't know why you think we will be "a NC contender day one" under Manny. and you then respond as if I'm saying he sucks as a coach. I didn't say he sucks as a coach, I am saying "NC contender day one" is a bit much for a head coach who has never been anything close to that.
In the business world, I learned a long time ago, the favorite isn't always the best or worst, and I've seen it play out both ways and in the middle. It really depends on what the hiring objective is: 1) maintain the status quo, 2) shake it up a little, 3) scorch burn earth and start all over, or 4) some combination of #2 and #3 for a culture change.
Each one requires a different skill set and drive, and #3 isn't for the faint of heart.
Culture wise, imo, the business of going 1-0, on a weekly basis is BS, that's the short game, the long game is different and takes different leadership and philosophical change. The 1-0 mindset needs to change or 1-0 becomes 0-1, 0-1, 0-1.
@psujoe I will be giving thanks Franklin is gone and Rhule extended at Nebraska

With you but I hate the scorched earth. IMO that is only to be used if you are on a burning platform. I don't think we are there so #2 is probably the right answer. I'm feeling that the players and coaches to trust that the boss to make the hard decisions that need made to win. That means picking the starter and sitting the star who isn't performing. Players know and in the end trust/respect is important when building teams. I'm afraid that smooth talking comes off as disingenuous. Relationships matter and TS gets that part of the game. JF could come off as slick. Good teams can beat better 'players' and at the end of the day that is where JF failed IMO. TS almost beat a top over ranked team his second game?
@tsuga I am so relieved - I sort of faded away from this board about 4 to 5 years ago. The coaching search brought me back ... all my time back I have wondered what the heck happened to The Man, The Legend .. Tsuga! So glad to see you are still here to share some of your wisdom and some of that humor!! Now go out there and get that BUCK
