@the-funeral-director lol He's an O$U fan now....since he realized the big red R isn't going to beat PSU playing football, in the foreseeable future. Maybe he can check w/ the Prognosticator if/when that might happen, then come back out of the RU fan closet.
@been-there-ii: Agreed. He's a born again O$U fan. It's a miracle!!!!!
In my blind ( a camo tent ) looking across 80 yards of cut corn at a patch of woods/brush about 30 yards deep x 1000 yards wide......they lay in there and come out about 15 minutes before dark. NOPE, they came out at 3:30 which was about about 10 minutes after I settled in and I was not ready. First time out with the muzzle loader and I totally forgot to fill the pan. 7 doe, 40 yards away trotted by me while I looked for my Primer which I ALWAYS have around my neck...except for this day!!
So, the next day, same spot, 4:45 PM I was ready!! Pan filled, quiet and I was just waiting. Out of the corner of my eye I see movement. Look again and here comes a 6 point...not bad size. Let him walk about 35 yards from me and fired! Stupid Primer hole was clogged, he jumped and trotted away down into the brush.
SO, yesterday came. Same spot, about the same time 4:45 ish. Primer hole cleaned, powder in the in the pan and I was ready again. 10 doe come out, no buck and they stood and looked at me until 5:30, never moved and stayed 200 yards away....every single one of them stood broadside.
I have seen deer every time I have been out this year and I am still eating cow burgers!!
Good grief!! Maybe it is time to call it the day!
PS: Hunting private land near Dtown HS.....off Blymeyer Road if you ever have been in that area.
@mtnittanylion: You may be hunting that stand too much and leaving a lot of scent in the area. remember, you leave your scent every time you walk to and from your stand. Also, is the wind blowing from you to the deer?? Tha could be why they're hanging up 200 yds out.
Full disclosure: I've forgotten to put the primer in my in-line a time or two. That makes ya feel like a real dink, let me tell ya!! Those horns make damn thin soup, shoot a doe and call it a day!!!
You know, I never thought about it that way. I have been in the blind 5 times this past week. I think I may head up to Pinchot for a day and give it a whirl. My buddy has been in his tree stand in the same field the same days and hasn't seen anything the past 4 times out.
Kind of like - look #7 is in the game, its a run!!! LOL
Can only go there so many times before they catch on!
Hope all is well!
