Yeah I know! Didn't do my homework and hit send too fast!! LOL
@psujoe Did you know that Nebraska actually had more 1st place votes going into the week, even though Penn State was #1? Did you know that Nebraska beat #2, who also had 1st place votes? Did you also know the PENN STATE GAINED MORE 1ST PLACE VOTES THAN NEBRASKA DID AFTER WEEK 9?
Week 9
- Penn State: 19 1st place votes
- Colorado: 16 1st place votes
- Nebraska: 25 1st Place votes
Week 10
- Nebraska: 33 1st place votes (gained 8)
- Penn State 28 1st place votes (GAINED 9)
Yes, WELL DOCUMENTED! After beating Ohio State, Penn State actually GAINED MORE 1st PLACE VOTES THAN NEBRASKA DID AFTER BEATING #2 COLORADO. You want to know the REAL reason Nebraska passed us that week? Because all those 3rd place votes they had behind Colorado turned into 2nd or 1st place votes. No stupid AP Poll boycott of Penn State occured
FFS we actually gained more 1st place votes that week than Nebraska. They simply gobbled up Colorado's higher votes after beating them. Sorry.
@roaminglion Colorado the same team the voters give a share of the sympathy NC in 1990 because their QB passed away? Colorado had a loss and a tie and they got 5 downs to win another game. It’s biased BS at its best when it come to the AP and coaches polls. Hate that the dude passed away but you don’t rig a NC because of it. The system now and then can be biased and dictated on who plays for the NC and the teams I named always got favorable rankings. I don’t believe for one minute games are rigged but who gets in the playoffs is VERY shady and possibly rigged.
...and now Colorado enters the fold of rigged NCs. Now we're giving NCs because people died? Yup and once again, those 1st place votes for Nebraska came from writers that cover the Big Ten and it was well documented that’s what happened.
I don’t care how you try to spin it , it was the Big Ten writers that effed Penn State that year.
Interesting points here been made. The real question is why!
Roam is a decade behind most of us so he honestly wouldn’t know how these biased voters were back then. He doesn’t know what happened with Colorado and how they got their NC given to them as a sympathy NC just like Nebraska got their sympathy NC in 1994 then got another on in 1997 with Michigan. Just trust us on this one roam. It’s like telling us Tom Osborne is a better coach than Barry Switzer, it’s the same people lol and they say the 5-12 losing record doesn’t matter we think Osborne is better 😂
That’s all you heard back then “poor Tom Osbourn’s never won a national championship”
Nah, y'all just think everyone is out to get you. Lol, its all good
Miami was way over rated that year because of reputation but it was decided before the bowl game wasn't it? If NE won they were #1. There was the sympathy vote for Osborne, the fact that Paterno had his and I propose was not as liked by media/coaches. And I still question if B10 voters supported PSU as well as B12 voters supported NEB. The favored computer poll of the time had us #1, now I suppose it had a programmed weighting bias but not any other voter bias. Funny they didn't even split it like they did the next year when they split the NC for NEB.
As I've said before, the only way PSU gets #1 is to be 1 or 2 and beat 1 or two. Now it continues, win the B10 and don't get invited to the dance. 12 teams and we will be 13.
Jones is anti PSU so when he says something pro PSU it has more weight?
We never could pass the eye test, lol.
@underlion If I’m connected the dots correctly you’re saying we have to go undefeated? When the 12 team playoffs get here that will end we’ll be able to get in with one loss.
Ffs... Colorado was overrated, Miami was overrated, Nebraska was overrated... everyone is always overrated except us, we are always underrated. Lol
If this bias actually existed, we wouldn't have been champs in 1982. No way in hell, we lost by 3 Touchdowns to Alabama and SMU was undefeated with a tie to #8
The other way around you all would be crying bloody murder over going undefeated and losing out to a team that lost by 21.
@roaminglion Ole southern is giving you a pass on this one Roam because the chit went on in the 60’s 70’s, 80’s was right before your time. I don’t believe Colorado was overrated but GT would stomped that ass had they played. Colorado had a love affair with the sports media when their QB passed away and that’s the only reason they got a share of the NC. It was a sympathy NC for Colorado just like it was a sympathy NC for Nebraska in 1994. The media loved the big 8 and BTW Nebraska never really won chit until Barry Switzer was out at Oklahoma. He kicked Nebraska ass just about every year baby. Hey man, Switzer was a football coach not a babysitter 😂
Yea I have rose blue colored glasses and Nixon didn't declare someone NC for political reasons.
12 teams will mean that a 2 loss team could get hot and win the NC. Not optimal but it is a way to make more $ and fairer than the proverbial eye test that we seem to lose. Historically we lost it due to perception and not running up the score.
Wish we'd have played NEB In 94 because that offense was superb and the defense was probably better than they are given credit for. The offense allowed the defense to play soft for the most part.
@underlion yep Nixon helped Texas win that NC and that Indiana game still pisses me off underlion 😂 the bullchit that went on at Michigan in 05 also leave a bad taste in my mouth because that’s 3 teams good enough for 3 more NC’s 🤬. I thought we were going to beat Oklahoma in 85 when we went up 10-0 but I believed Oklahoma was just a little better and we wasn’t quite good enough at QB to beat that defense Oklahoma had.
And what’s funny about John Shaffer is the Oklahoma game was the only game he lost as a starter if I remember correctly? 😂
@southern-psu-fan So basically that post boils down to: I am a GT fan therefore GT woukd have beanten down Colorado that year.
I've heard it all before from practically every fanbase. "We would have killed (insert NC here), thry were overrated and the pollsters hated us!"
I also said "last 25 years", which doesn't include 1994 but went with it anyway 🤣
Maybe but since they lost a game and had a tie it’s very shady they got a share of the NC when GT only had a tie plus they were given one game by getting 5 plays to get that win. I honestly don’t think that would happen today. We did get a NC so I’m satisfied. Penn St got robbed though and I’m still pissed about it 😂

You think maybe SMU fans feel the got robbed in 1982, since we lost by 21 and they never lost?
@roaminglion Lightweight roam and plus they were cheating to sky heaven. That’s why ole southern don’t believe in ranking lightweights. We also took down #1 Georgia. They were good though but not in the same conversation as Penn St and Georgia.

Then you don't know history if you think they were "lightweights" No one would tell you the SWC conference was a bunch of lightweights back in the 70s and 80s. SMU was a huge program, and yes they were cheating but no one knew it at the time. They hadn't been caught yet, so please stop. In one breath you say Colorado cheated by getting 5 plays, yet they won the NC... then you say SMU was cheating, even though they hadn't been caught yet, and that was the reason they didn't win? Yeah, ok.
My point is you love Penn State, that's why you can see we deserved the championship in 1982. We did deserve it. But ever damn year we didn't win it you cry murder over some slight, or snub, because we "should have" won. It's always "the president declared it!", or "we were undefeated!" or "They were overrated!" blah blah blah.
- 1982: SMU fans are saying the same thing, they deserved it
- 2014: TCU & Baylor fans saying they deserved it over OSU
- 2003: USC lost in triple overtime way back in September and still got left out even though Oklahom alost their conference title game
- 1966: Alabama won the national title in 1964 & 1965. They were preseason #1, went undefeated, and Notre Dame (who tied MSU) was named national champs. That one is ridiculous.
Etc. etc. etc. History is littered with fanbases seeing conspiracies and slights everywhere. Alabama fans complain about it, Ohio State fans complain about it, Michigan fans complain about it, Oklahoma fans complain about it. They all have it in common, and they all only see their slights, never the times when they took it from someone else. In those cases, they all do what you just did... say their schedule sucked, they were lightweights, etc. etc. etc
@roaminglion dam straight because Alabama took a backseat to ND brother And still does in the eyes of the sports media. Only Texas was worth a chit in the SWC and they even fell off in the 80’s. Biggest cheating conference in the history of college sports. This has nothing to do with me being a Penn St fan Penn St beat #1 Georgia ass and that’s why Penn State won the NC. Had it been Texas instead of SMU Texas would’ve leaped frog over Penn St because they’re on of the media darling teams. Check who won the 1970 NC and look at the teams that got a piece. Texas, Nebraska and Ohio St. If USC had been undefeated they would’ve found a way to give them a piece of it as well. I completely understand why you can’t see this buddy that’s why I’m letting this slide 😂

If Notre Dame is so absolutly beloved by default, explain how they beat FSU in 1993 but still finished #2 behind them in the standings when they both had 1 loss. I guess ND < FSU in the pollsters minds? Or is another excuse coming about some sympathy vote for a coach.
