Here's how I think it might go:

125# Ayala D Hildebrandt. I3-PSU0 (Ayala for real and Hild. just getting his wrestling legs)

133# RBY D DiSanto  I3-PSU3 (RBY doesn't ger major but bout never in doubt)

141# Lee D Eierman I3-PSU6 (Eirman hasn't been as dominant as Lee)

149# Murin D Bartlett I6-PSU6 (Bo getting better but so in Murin)

157# Young D Barraclaugh I9-PSU6 (we got problems with this weight, hopefully not a major by Young)

165# Marinelli D Berge I12-PSU6 (Berge still getting his legs and lungs together, B10's will be different)

174# Starocci D Kemerer I12-PSU9 (Starocci is amazing)

184# Brooks M Assad I12-PSU13 (Assad not on the same mat as Brooks)

197# Dean D Warner I12-PSU16 (Dean's style too much for Warner but close match)

HVY   Kerkvliet D Cassiopi I12-PSU 19 (Kerk that much better than Cass but its not close

Final score...Iowa 12-PSU19

Thoughts?

Mr Lake: Im going with:

125: Gotta go with the experienced AA wrestler in this one. Hildy gets it done for the good guys.

PSU-3 Iowa-0

133: If Desanto shows up, he'll be sorry

PSU 6-0

141: Lee is on a level of his own right now but Eireman might catch that Carver Magic and keep it close

PSU 9-0

149: Beau may get a taste of that Carver magic but he'll remember it come March.

PSU 9-3

157: Not even sure who we have stepping to the line in this one. Could it be Gardner?? Gotta avoid bonus pts in this one.

PSU 9-6

165:I agree with your prediction

PSU 9-9

174: I want to say Stars gets upset in this one but I just cant.  It certainly could happen, but my heart says go with your Alma Mater

PSU 12-9

184: Sorry Abe, going to be a rough one for you MD Brooksie

PSU 16-9

197: Dean dropped one on Sunday but he wont drop two in a row.

PSU 19-9

HVY: Kerk made it look easy against Parris last Friday. Cass cant protect his legs as well as Parris could and Kerk will attack them. Kerk in a MD

PSU 23-9

Kid, I think that score is best case.  Worst case we lose a squeaker.  133, 174, 184, 197, HWT are wins.  149, 157 are loses and 3 toss ups.  I'll guess 18-12.

It will be exciting and ultimately the NCAA's is the big prize and we are better positioned.

@underlion : I'll admit that im looking at it with blue and white colored glasses!!!  I'm hoping Kerk can make a statement here and at B1G's.  If he can get seeded 2 or 3, that will keep him out of Gable's bracket with a chance to meet in the finals.  Jaydin hasnt shown me much yet this year at 141 and up until last week, I would have picked Ayala at 125 too. I agree, the real prize is in March and we all know CS has a way of getting our guys to peak at just the right time.

Thanks for chiming in. It was good to hear from you!!!

I don’t know guys. I think it’s going to be a nail biter. There are a lot of tossup matches here. I have never been impressed with Murin, however, and I think Beau gets a good quality win here. I hope I’m wrong, but this may come down to the big fellas.

@lionbacker99 Yea, statistically since I have 5 PSU wins against 2 Iowa wins it is probable we lose one of the 5.  Then you are at 4 wins to 3 with 3 toss ups.

We are better but they have home field advantage.  I'd like to win the dual but I don't mind losing a few matches as it seems many times we get a win at the NCAA'S after a loss.  But better seedings help with NCAA Points.

Good point in getting Kirk to #2 or 3 so he avoids Stevenson at B10 and NCAA.  He can be a big point contributor for the team race.  His outing against Michigan was impressive.  In my mind he is 2 or 3....he just has to prove it.

Hildebrand is a solid upgrade but not a sure thing.  Eirman scares me and Dean is solid but isn't dominant, he often gets stuck on his takedowns.  That MSU kid that beat him is very athletic and gives people trouble but he is inconsistent.  Pretty typical Cornell style from Dean.  I expect to be on the edge of my seat for most matches.

I love football but there will be a higher percentage of excitement time during this dual than any football game.

Here's my thoughts for what it's worth:

125   Ayala at home...... 3-0 Iowa

133   Gotta go with RBY.....3-3

141 Toss up. Eirman at home gets the nod.............6-3 Iowa

149  I think Beau is up for this one....6-6

157. Solid Iowa lean here.......9-6 Iowa

165.  Imagine has only lost once at Carver......12-6 Iowa

174. Kem wins a close one at home...15-6 Iowa

184. Brooks by MD.......15-10 Iowa

197. I agree Dean won't lose two in a row.......15-13 Iowa.

Hvy: Kerkules by decision......16-15 PSU

@t-hale   Your thoughts and opinions are just as welcomed as anyone else's.  Its very refreshing to see that 5 or 6 different guys can join in a thread and be polite and respectful to one another.  Well done guys!!!  I was hoping to be able to fly out of here in time to watch the match at home but we had a storm come in from the west today and the big one's coming in tonite so all flights are canceled out of Portland.  Gramps doesnt have Big 10 network up here in the land that time forgot so I'll try to listen to it on the radio.  four and a half hours to go gentlemen!!!!

@underlion I heard he has a torn Labrum.  I sure hope not.  Hate to hear about anyone getting hurt and knocked out.

Really hated to see Kerk lose like that.  He needed that win for seeding.  Tough loss.  Cass was up for the task for sure.

Cass was prepared for the Kirk takedown he used against Michigan.  Kirk will stay out of the bear hug next time...or at least practice it.

I thought Dean got hosed, he could have been 2-2 or up 4-2 but he surprised me and came thru.

Starocci was the big win.

I was more disappointed in Berge than Kirk.  Berge got pushed around.

Quick thoughts:

125: Good match and needed bonus point but makes you wonder what the team score would have been had Ayala wrestled

133: RBY's style is defense, capitalize on opponant's mistakes. DiSanto will never, never, ever take down RBY

141: Lee is amazing though should have neverlet it go in to OT

149: Bartlett a 141#r but also needs to be more aggesssive. Its ok to lose, just try to win

157: Barraclaugh is better than that, seemed intimidated by a so so Young

165:  Berge doesn't have his lungs yet, hopefully he will get there in time for nationals. Im starting to think Marinelli is a mouthy jerk

174: Cstar lucky to get out of that one though he is still, by far the better wrestler. Thought for sure (being in Iowa) Kem would have got that last second merkle td

184: Could have used the bonus points here, Assad did nothing.

197: Dean had the reversal AND near fall but not awarded points, that just pissed Dean off and proceeded to inflict major bow and arrow pain. Did you hear Warner scream?

HVY: Puzzling, started well and finished bad. Don't go upper body unless you know what you are doing.

Otherwise good win and much preparation for March

PaKid.....are you going to Detroit? I will be there.

@lakerie : I'll have to let a know about Detroit. Been gone from home almost a month now, not too sure how well that would be received if ya know what I mean.  I was able to Youtube some of the matches but not all of them.

125: Im hearing Ayala is out with a torn Labrum.  Hildy did about what I expected.

133: Not sure what to think of RBY's performance.  I cant really critique a guy that is wrestling at a level I only ever dreamed of being on. He looked tired to me.  AD was taking shots just to force the action but never had any intention to finish his shots.  Heck his head was on the mat most of the times he shot.

141: Looked like a brain fart to me but again, he's at that elite level.  I was surprised he gave up a late TD and lost his RT advantage all in what....12 seconds??

149-165: They're getting close, they really are.  They need to get a good win under their belts.  Bartlett is the one that can make some noise, Berge just needs to get into wrestling shape.

174: I didnt see any change in position to warrant a TD at the end of reg.  Did you??  As an aside, I have no idea who the time-keep was but I hope he didnt quit his daytime job. Kem wrestled a valiant match.  What a warrior although he was gassed at the end of regulation.  I think he takes CS one more time this year.  I only hope its at B1g's and not in Detroit.

184: I totally agree with your assessment

197: I did hear the scream.  I've been on the receiving end of a few of them; I can relate

HVY:  Strange match.  I will guarantee you that isnt what the coaches wanted out of Kerk.  That'll be an easy fix.  He learned a valuable lesson last nite.

Just a final thought: Desanto has never been one of my favorite wrestlers and last night showed just how much of a punk he is.  Putting hands on the ref should have been an automatic DQ.  Dont know if you saw it or not but on a couple of his shots, RBY was trying to pull his foot out to set the nearside cradle and Reviera would shut it down.  No doubt the Brands Bros were in the refs ear long about weigh-in time

I thought RBY looked like he lacked his normal energy or was in our football teams prevent defense.  I didn't see the issue with the ref stopping RBY's 'dangerous move'.  What I mean is relative to a lot of positions it looked like a nothingburger.

149 and 157 were matches if our guy escapes in a reasonable time

I didn't see the change on Starroci that made it a take down even after the time ran out...but I'm no trained official.  Star had the leg hooked but was under, I just don't understand the takedown definition in that case.

In no match were we dominant, Brooks should have scored more, that was to be a major but he seemed to get tired.

Kirk should not get into that position with the big boys...stupid.  Was not the game plan and he needs to avoid it and defend instead of trying to win it.  Not his game.

I did think we got called for stalling much quicker and more often than Iowa...but that is home field advantage.  They won't get that benefit at the B10's or Nationals.

Its a win and it was a learning experience and all in all we are younger and have more learning upside....

This went about as I expected. Too close for comfort at times, but Iowa is more of a dual meet team than a tournament team, so I would expect the margin to be wider in March. Plus, Cael has an uncanny way of getting his guys to peak at the right time. Agree with the kid, DeSanto should have been DQ’d the second he made contact with the ref and the clock operator was horrendous. Take care kid, safe travels home and hope the grandparents are doing well.

The Brand Bros documentary didn't help...I just thought Bobby Knight.  What is excessive Mr Brands?  Anything?

Desanto is a confirmed punk and Marinade seemed a jerk last week after he lost at Michigan.

So I am left thinking which PSU wrestler has gotten excessive after a win or loss?  The Mark Hall pose after a win maybe?  Who after a loss?  Drawing a blank but I have my blue glasses on.

The behavior is a reflection of the coach and Iowa is happy being the Miami Huricanes of the 80's.  And it is great to beat the 80's Hurricanes...showing my age.  I can remember when Highschool had riding time and then it was taken away.

@underlion: I was there to witness this one.  Bo had a way of getting under the Hawkeye fans' skin.

and who can ever forget this one??  Loved the fake limp and how it suddenly disappeared when he was running off the mat. Micic said it best "he cant take an ass beating"
