@rip IMO him firing Yurcich tells me he blames him for the offense not being up to standards and blames him for our QB problems. I honestly don’t believe James Franklin tells the OC what plays to run. If it’s 4th down and he doesn’t like the call he might call time out and get involved. BK, what works on offense in the big 12 doesn’t work most of the time in the big 10 because the defenses are to good. Yurcich needs to go back to the big 12 or ACC that’s where his offense will work. Just my opinion old buddy lol
@rip My guess is that Yurcich will get an incentive to sign a non-disclosure if Franklin was significantly involved with the offensive difficulties.
That is an interesting thought. You really don’t hear coaches talking about one another, so it must be at will professional understanding and/or backed by ND agreements. Bottom line, such behavior could be a precast for professional suicide.
You're probably right Tae. As always, money talks. However, if MY goes along with a gag order, it might hurt his job prospects if by keeping quiet it looks like the whole offensive debacle was his fault. Just saying.
I’d say he would say something along the lines of, difference in philosophical offensive strategy and play calling, and the interviewer knows exactly what that means in that profession, or off the record say what it was based on public observable moments ie, game time decision making.
I hear you Southern. I'm not saying James is calling the plays specifically, but I do believe he's setting general parameters that limit the OC's choices. Examples could be ..... "establish the run" or "only safe passes" , "don't take chances, keep it basic", etc, etc. You know what I mean buddy.
On a different note, I just don’t get why DA was never set up to throw the bomb unless in practice it was consistently demonstrated that he and the receivers couldn’t pull it off. But damn I’d still give it a shot or two vs some of the other boneheaded calls that resulted in 0 gain.
Our offense doesn't suck, that is a little much their Roam, These are young kids taking directions from coaches that are supposed to be some of the best and they are not doing a good job developing some very good players. Allar is a good QB, good enough to beat Michigan and Ohio State this year, but our playing calling is ridiculous. Good grief, they had 5 plays from the 4 yard line and couldn't punch it in for a TD? Go back and watch the replays. The play calling stunk. Singleton could have walked into the end zone on one of them.
GO STATE!
@mtnittanylion when and where have you seen enough out of Allar to know he is good enough to defeat OSU and Meatchicken ? It sure hasn’t been shown in any games while he was wearing a PSU uniform. He’s made a couple good throws but hasn’t shown anything deserving of 5 stars. His performance so far may not even be worth three stars
Similar to what PSU61 suggests, I would walk in with a Dismissal Statement or Letter of Recommendation already prepared for signature. I would focus on my skills as a leader, manager, recruiter and ability to work with others. I would also list specific accomplishments which are generally unknown but which summarize my value to the program. I would then look for a position with a program that has the potential to have a prolific offense. You're probably right Tae. As always, money talks. However, if MY goes along with a gag order, it might hurt his job prospects if by keeping quiet it looks like the whole offensive debacle was his fault. Just saying.
@southern-psu-fan part of it is 3 and outs and giving the ball right back, I don't care who it is on defense it wears them down
@rip JF has had 5 ocs 1 left for head coach other 4 were fired or let go. It has been the same issues except Joe Mo and never heard any of them say anything bad by any of them.
@rip Not in the Dismissal Letter / Letter of Recommendation. However, I would be ready to respond during an interview or discussion --- I would be humble and my responses would be positive. I would not point the finger at others but I would point out that the offense did have some moments of success. There were a couple of times when Penn State broke tendencies to include the runs by #15.
It would be hard to explain why many plays resulted in the ball being thrown or run to where Michigan had multiple players. And the second 2-point conversion attempt is baffling. The 4th and 6th from the 30 was set-up and available but the receiver did not break toward the center of the field.
My goal would be to get to a program where I feel valued and respected and I am able to rebuild my reputation by making an immediate and positive impact.
This guy should have been fired after the Ohio State game in my opinion...I received criticism for calling him out for his lack of creativity...Did you see what Michigan did to us on Saturday? They couldn't do anything on offense...We were too quick for them and they made an ADJUSTMENT...They brought in extra OLineman...As many as 3 extra OLineman and ran the football...EXACTLY what I said we should have done against Ohio State...I called for 12 or even 13 sets with TE's but OLineman would have served the purpose as well...Penn State has plenty of fire power on offense...More than enough talent to be scoring at least 28 points per ballgame against ANYBODY...The question is did Yurcich call the plays or did Franklin? If Franklin was overriding his playcalling then Franklin needs to go too...I was never a fan of this guys offense and his use of formations and motion...He never seemed to adjust...Penn State had more than enough talent to win both of those football games...I have no idea who they are going to hire next to fill this position but I sure as heck hope they hire some young coordinator who has some imagination...I guess we will find out this offseason what is to come but this is a disgrace so far...
@psujoe My opinion is the coaching staff has done little to develop this kid nor have they put him in a position to succeed with their offensive scheme, lack of adjustments and lack of creativity on the offensive side of the ball...I don't think this is a personnel problem I think this is a coaching problem...The question is did Yurcich design this offense and call the plays or was he interfered with by Franklin? We will never know as we are on the outside...I can say I was never a fan of this guys offensive scheme, lack of creativity and his lack of being able to make adjustments...He certainly didn't use formations, Personnel groupings nor motion to put these kids in a position to succeed...Any successful coach has one thing in common...No matter the personnel he has to work with he does whatever is necessary to put the players in a position to succeed and make plays...In my opinion this guy never did that...That is why the offense is so ineffective...This is a coaching problem not a personnel problem...Just my opinion...
I am not saying he is a great QB today, obviously he still needs work. I am simply stating that the play calling and game plan against Mich and Ohio State was just terrible. My goodness, Cephas didn't even know some of the plays and/or where he was supposed to be on the field at times....which I still think is a coaching issue.
Our defense kept us in both of these games. I honestly believe both, Mich and Ohio State, will struggle against any of the currently ranked top 8 Teams starting with Bama! Why? I just don't think they are that great BECAUSE Penn State could have beat them both if JF & MY knew what they were doing. And I am taking away from Penn State with this statement. They are a good team, just not up to par with any of the current Top raked NON BIG10 teams.
I don't think Allar cost us either game, its deeper than that....and WAY above my pay grade! But by game 10 and at home, the ENTIRE offense should have been firing on all 8 cylinders with the talent that they have. This was a total breakdown this season starting with the HC and trickling down to MY.
So, I agree to some extent. What has Allar shown to prove he is capable of beating Mich and Ohio State? He is a good QB that hasn't had great leaders pushing him to the next level. This is why some of the miscues that makes him look bad stand out so much. And I don't for a minute blame him!
GO STATE!
@cohappy 2 left for HC jobs if I remember correctly.
@southern-psu-fan Correct bro, Jo Mo didn't make it for long as a HC, 2 yrs and Rahne is 13-21 at OD. Jo Mo is apparently in the running to come back as OC.
But that may be for naught, I was talking to my PSU buddies at work, they say JayPa is a shoo-in!
@been-there-ii I’d love to get Joe Moorhead back brother. He left on good terms so hopefully James Franklin can make it happen.
I'd be thrilled to get JoMo back. He knows what he's doing and wouldn't take Jimmy's sheet. Maybe that's why Jimmy might not hire him!
I'd love that to, Southern. Frankly though, I'll be surprised if Jimmy hires him. I always got the feeling that Jimmy felt a bit threatened by JoMo. Just body language and how he reacted on the sidelines. Hope I'm wrong because with JoMo, there's no question on who's calling the plays!
Jimmy going to hire internal so he can continue to puppeteer the offense.
