This should be on a wrestling thread but nobody visits there so I'll post it here. It appears That former PSU, Rutgers 125 pounder and national champ Nick Suriano will finish his college career at the U. of Michigan. He is a likely threat to separate Iowa's Spencer Lee from his throne at that weight. Penn State fans had hoped he might return to the blue and white to add needed firepower for a NC run this year but it could help Penn State if he beats Lee in the finals (assuming both get to the finals and thats a pretty good bet. Apolgies in advance for putting this in the wrong category.
Don't let it happen again! lol No apology needed Lake, not like no one else has ever deviated from PSU football on here. Besides, football is pretty much winding down for the season and that usually opens things up.
Thekid was talking to me about this. NS is a good wrestler, no doubt about it. But, he has a "hurray for me and the hell with you" attitude that didn't really fly with the PSU coaches and team.
Cael's philosophy is to make yourself and your team mates better wrestlers. He never bought it to Cael's way, and I guess that's OK too. It certainly isn't for everyone!!
BT: Just got back from PA yesterday evening. PA has more snow than we do up here.
Suriano to Mich helps us immensely.
Lake, did Spencer have surgery in the off season??
@tsuga I don't think he did but at least I didn't see anything about that. Could make 125 pretty interesting this year.
Thanks for posting lake! Just to add to this. Suriano is thought to want to go 125 to challenge Spencer Lee. However, it is now being questioned whether or not Lee will redshirt this year due to the knee injuries in both legs. I think he did have surgery. Iowa has one of their highly rated recruits manning 125 early in the season. On top of that, PSU got Central Michigan 125lber Hildebrandt as a transfer. If I remember correctly, he finished 4th at the NCAA tournament last season. PSU’s 125lber Robbie Howard needed another shoulder surgery in the offseason is, supposedly, sitting this season out to fully recover. There’s a lot of moving parts going on here.
On top of that, Suriano hasn’t wrestled 125 in several years, so can he get there and hold it? Michigan has a pretty good 133lber, so if Suriano doesn’t make 125 it would throw a wrench into the Michigan lineup. Make no mistake though, Nick only does what’s best for Nick.
Suriano’s NCAA wrestling career has certainly been a drama fest!
@lionbacker99 I've looked around but haven't seen anything about surgeries. He did after high school but not recently... but there is a shroud of mystery behind it. Let me know if you hear anything. Thanks for the update.
@lakerie Maybe I assumed too much here Lake. All we know for sure is that he withdrew from the Olympic Trials last spring/summer and he has yet to take the mat this season. If Coach Brands gives out info like Coach Cael or Coach Franklin, we’ll never know the truth.
@tsuga Speaking of "The Kid" tell 'im it wouldn't kill im to post here once in a while.
Speaking of killing, I'd bet you have a trap line for mice in your garage/outbuildings too. Due to my never ending thirst for knowledge, I wanted to find the best bait for the furry, deer tick hosting, little bastards that were eating all my winter squash. (also pulled another deer tick out of me last week) Set up 3 traps, one bacon baited, one peanut butter and one w/ a chunk of Snickers bar. They passed up the other two, to get to the Snickers bar trap.
Next will be Snickers vs Reese's PB cup....I think it's the chocolate they like.
