Great QB’s make players around them better and make plays in big games. Allar does neither but when was the last time a PSU QB did?
Not sure what post you are talking about. If it's my mentioning Paterno, fast forward to today and you know everyone would be giving him the Cignetti treatment.@roaminglion He had 2 undefeated seasons
"Played no one" / "1-9 vs top 10" / "Can't win the big ones"
@southern-psu-fan Franklin does not do that. Remember the Iowa game when he had no backup qb ready when the starter got hurt, he is not a gameday manager.
This is more my point PSUJoe. Everyone waxing poetic about other QBs, yet Allar is just the latest is the same damn thing.Great QB’s make players around them better and make plays in big games. Allar does neither but when was the last time a PSU QB did?
@roaminglion if you think DA was on the same level as McSorely I don’t know what you are watching. McSorely was a much better QB. He beat Michigan and Ohio State and won a big 10 championship
He beat Michigan when they were down, more proof that the name on the chest means more to you than beating a top ten team.@roaminglion if you think DA was on the same level as McSorely I don’t know what you are watching. McSorely was a much better QB. He beat Michigan and Ohio State and won a big 10 championship
I will give you an example of what I am talking about...He throws that ball in front of singleton instead of behind him we win the game...I don't know if he rushed the throw or what...I bet he makes that throw perfectly every time in practice...There are many instances of those types of things happening in big games with him...It's as if when the games are big they speed up for him...The difference between winning and losing these games are very small...It just seems to me that this kid wants it so bad he vaporlocks...He tightens up...It's like the difference between a pitcher aiming when he is pitching instead of just throwing the ball and letting it go...I hope he proves me wrong and leads us to a national championship next year...I just don't think the kid has it for the big games...
I also want to say that beating SMU and Boise State was beating the big boys...This year those 2 teams were the BIG BOYS...They were both top 12 teams...
And my point is Tom Brady and Mahomes did that too, but they got better. It isn't something you are born with, or is bequeathed to you. You work hard and get better.I will give you an example of what I am talking about...He throws that ball in front of singleton instead of behind him we win the game...I don't know if he rushed the throw or what...I bet he makes that throw perfectly every time in practice...There are many instances of those types of things happening in big games with him...It's as if when the games are big they speed up for him...The difference between winning and losing these games are very small...It just seems to me that this kid wants it so bad he vaporlocks...He tightens up...It's like the difference between a pitcher aiming when he is pitching instead of just throwing the ball and letting it go...I hope he proves me wrong and leads us to a national championship next year...I just don't think the kid has it for the big games...
Joe Montana didn't just win big games by default. He learned how. Kids fail, yet everyone today is so darn concerned with some 1st year starter coming in to be a savior without first learning how to do it. In the past, it took 3 or 4 years for a QB to get there.
Will Howard from OSU... he's in year 6. He sucked early, he learned how to overcome. Dillion Gabriel from Oregon... year 6. Notre Dame QB? Year 5 or 6.
All 3 of those guys looked average at best early in their careers. They didn't just stroll out on the field and dominate.
@roaminglion Howard and Gabriel also transferred how many times? I’m starting to think that may be the best path for Drew.
I think the difference between QBs is this; when they step on the field against a toss up win/lose or a better opponent, do you believe you have a good chance of winning? Some QBs you just believe your gonna win with or at least have a damn good chance, others not so much. DA is not a QB that I ever felt was going to deliver a game. When Fusina, Collins, Robinson, McSorely went under center, you at least felt like we got this or we got a damn good chance; at least I did. With DA, not one game.
For that matter JF is a good coach, but there has not been one toss up or iffy game that I felt, we got this. I like what the man has done, but at this juncture, IMO, you know what you got; its not bad, but damn you hope for better when it's right for the picking, and it just doesn't get done.
With Saban, yeah I'm a Bama fan, it was basically they gotta beat us not the other way around.
The question is do you feel like it is time to risk becoming irrelevant (see Nebraska) if we make a bad hire? Not saying I know the answer to that, it's a risk either way.
Howard only once, Gabriel twice I believe@roaminglion Howard and Gabriel also transferred how many times? I’m starting to think that may be the best path for Drew.
That ND loss is going to hurt for awhile.....players, coaches and fans alike. Texas.....1st and goal on the 1' line, down 7 and they end up losing by 14. That loss is going hurt THOSE people for a while too. Arizona up 7, Texas 4th and 13 from the 30 yard line and they score to go to a second OT and win. That loss is going to hurt THOSE people for a while too.
All three of the mentioned losses were a TEAM effort/loss. We can blame Allar, JF, the OC and DC, but all of them contributed along with the rest of the team. I thought this was a BIG Penalty down the stretch, and I haven't seen one mention of it:
(1:14 - 4th) Leonard, Riley pass sacked for loss of 3 yards to the NOTREDAME33 (Carter, Abdul), PENALTY PSU personal foul (Durant, Zane) 15 yards to the PSU49, NO PLAY, 1ST DOWN NOTREDAME.
Allar had a tough game, no doubt about it. But let me tell you something about that. SIXTEEN GAMES in one season? That is a PROFESSIONAL stretch WITHOUT all of the professional training, facilities, staff and rest that the pro's get. Look at all of the injuries in the college post season this year. Look at the mistakes that Ohio State made against Texas, and Texas made against Ohio State. And how about Carter, best defensive player in the Biz and he gets hurt against Boise and don't think for a minute he was 100% against ND.....he wasn't. I 100% believe Allars performance against ND was based on the new CFP format. These kids are burning out at the end and I don't care what anyone says, that is a fact!
The two teams playing for a National Title DID NOT PLAY IN A CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME! There is something to be said about that! And what about the 4 conference champions who all lost? Don't think for a minute THOSE teams weren't burnt out as well heading into the CFP.
Penn State had a great year, could be playing for a National title, but they also had to come from behind to beat USC, Minny, and oh yes, Bowling Green! ND had one bad game, and then they took care of BIZ.....INDIANA, GA and PENN STATE. They may have a weak schedule, but they beat some pretty good teams in the CFP. And if they somehow upset Ohio State, they will OWN THE BIG 10!!! That is the players just like Ohio State is doing after THEIR embarrassing loss to Michigan.
Penn State did NOT let the best QB walk away. Allure is the guy and he will be better next year. JF is struggling to win the big game, he has made some bad decisions along the way, but THAT ND loss was not on him. In fact, I think they won some games this year because he has gotten more aggressive and is playing to win vs not to lose like he was doing. Does he still have room to grow? Sure, but he is getting better at what he does and unfortunately you can either play along or go do something else! ONE FACT HERE.....he is putting competitive teams on the field and it is just a matter of time before it swings his way!
GO STATE!!!!!
