I was a Dale Earnhardt Sr fan and he won 4 cup championship with Kirk Shelmerdene 86,87, 90, 91 and finished 12th in the championship in 92 and Dale Earnhardt wanted the crew chief fired and he was fired. Somebody had to be held responsible and it was the crew chief. The great Dale Earnhardt went on to win 2 more championships and finished with 7.
Jeff Gordon had the championship wrapped up in 05 and the crew chief fudged up in the pits and I cost Jeff Gordon the championship and he had it man and nobody was held accountable and Jeff Gordon never won another championship.
My Falcons were up 28-3 in the Super Bowl and blew the lead and lost as we all know and ole southern said fire Dan Quinn and pepto and roam said I was nuts but I thought somebody needed to be held responsible and they wasn’t and the falcons has sucked ever since. Some losses are forgivable and some ain’t somebody has to be held accountable. I guess the 2 wins in the playoffs gives James Franklin a little wiggle room but I’m on the fence on him being held accountable for all the losses playing the heavyweights. Somebody needs to be held accountable. 2 wins in the playoffs saves his ass this year but next year he might need to be held accountable.
James Franklin deserves to be fired. Unfortunately, the administrators made an unnecessary and bad decision when the gave him the extension mid-way through the original contract.
The way ypu guys talk, you would have fired Paterno too. He was 1-9 vs top 5 teams and terrible against the top 10 too after 13 years.James Franklin deserves to be fired. Unfortunately, the administrators made an unnecessary and bad decision when the gave him the extension mid-way through the original contract.
As I’ve probably stated a hundred times on this forum since 2016, James Franklin is not and never will be elite. He’s taken the program as far as he’s capable.
Even if that is true, there is considerable sunk $ and then factor in the probability that whoever we hire has a likelihood of performing worse not better. Here we are in the final 4 and we want to fire our coach? Not like we are AL and didn't make the 12 team playoff after losing to Vandy. Had we beat ND and lost to OSU AGAIN would we want to fire JF?
He does need to hold someone(s) accountable for no receptions by a receiver. Unfathomable.
But I don't really have any skin in the game, I am not part owner of this franchise...I just have a degree or two. 🙂
We have a NC in Volleyball, I expect another in wrestling, a third place in football and maybe we can do well in Hockey. Basketball M and F continues to be disappointing.
2 active coaches have titles. There will be 3 in 10 days.
That's it... and the two in the finals were handed teams that had been in the playoffs before. They didn't exactly build them up.
I guess it’s the 10 WR’s that will be held accountable for the last 2 years.
The goat Joe Paterno also had 3 undefeated seasons in his first 10 years roam.
Let’s give coach day credit because he’s been there long enough to where he built this team and he turned this team around in the playoffs. Coach Day deserves 100% of the credit in my opinion.
Texas also stunk when Sarks took that job so he built that team. We both know roam that both teams get top notch talent so it’s not hard to build a NC team.
Losing To ND like that really pisses me off I ain’t gone lie. James Franklin is definitely on my shit list!
Yep, Fire Franklin! That'll fix everything.
Should/could we have beaten ND, yeah probably. Is is all on the coaches, not in my book. PSU over achieved by what everyone's predictions were. Beginning of the season we'd have been happy to get as far as we did in the playoffs. Now, it's not good enough? If we'd have gone on to win the championship would it have changed any of the Anti-Franklin fans minds? Sure, right up until the 1st loss next season. Then we'd be right back to fire Franklin!
I for one, don't have an ax to grind about Franklin or this year's results.
The goat Joe Paterno also had 3 undefeated seasons in his first 10 years roam
[/qquoteSo what, you know you'd be saying he beat no one those years with a soft schedule and he couldn't beat the "big dawgs"
My view is that there are games you are supposed to win, games you are supposed to lose and toss up games. ND was a toss up game although I still think we were the better team. We win what we are supposed to win and lose what we are supposed to lose but it just feels like we don't win our share of the toss up games or the games that are to be close.
I am amazed at how the wrestlers seem to win at an abnormal rate relative to rankings. Cael has the phycology down. They wrestle 'free'. I am sure this is easier in an individual sport but isn't football just made up of individual performances and the biggest one is by the QB. Some QB's wrestle free, they want the ball, they want to put the team on their back a la Jordon, Bird... Some people fault on big points and then as they are tossing up the ball for the second serve think 'don't double fault'....ask me how I know. I expect other people rarely if ever do that.
I propose we need to improve our sports psychology dept 🙂
There have been teams where when the big play was needed you thought McGloin or Arrington... I don't feel that way with this team. Nobody on D and I think TW on offense but when it is obvious game time he is going to get heavy coverage. I don't think DA. But as JF says this is only his second year being a pro QB. Boise had a 6 yr.
Just my perception
I totally agree with you Underlion. I was thinking the same thing this morning regarding wrestlers. And I went another step and thought about Crew teams. Crew, imo, is like wrestling to the point that each rower has to be mentally strong, true and tried to pull off the toss ups as mistakes are unforgiven; especially when racing 2, 4, and 8s, no team is winning that race without precision from all rowers; and coaching can really set the mental stage for success for their team regardless if V1, V2 etc...
If I remember correctly, Saban had a sports psychologist come in and do some work with his teams.
Maybe, but more information is needed. I am generally reasonable and avoid arbitrary changes. Furthermore, my metrics for success are not always based on the scoreboard but on what I believe is the true purpose of college football. The way ypu guys talk, you would have fired Paterno too. In Army Aviation, there are some aircraft that have a reputation as a "Hangar Queen" because of their limited availability for missions due to maintenance issues. Despite lots of attention, the aircraft never becomes reliable. It is completely illogical, but yet "Hangar Queens" exist. Maybe there is something that occurred during construction that results in odd vibrations during operation that leads to the decreased lifespan of components and the need for additional maintenance actions. In the end, Hangar Queens are usually replaced when major maintenance is required.
Penn State could have won every game they played this year and they could have won many of the games they have lost since James Franklin has been at Penn State. Penn State could have also lost some of the games they have won. James has done a great job of recruiting. But, there is obviously something wrong. I feel that the point of change has been reached and the Hangar Queen should be replaced.
Slick Nick would also bench a QB if he was stinking up a football field and It lead to winning the NC. Find a way to win is what Saban did. It also made his QB’s better.

Paterno stayed too long and yes I would have shoved him out the door long before the Sandusky thing.
You ALWAYS talk about recruiting, so what else did Slick Nick have? A room of 5* talent and the top recruiting class every year.Slick Nick would also bench a QB if he was stinking up a football field and It lead to winning the NC. Find a way to win is what Saban did. It also made his QB’s better.
@roaminglion We’re on the same page with ND and Ole Miss Roam with recruiting and both games were a shit show on offense.
The offense wasn't a shit show against ND, the QB/WRs were. Warren and the run game were good.@roaminglion We’re on the same page with ND and Ole Miss Roam with recruiting and both games were a shit show on offense.
At least be honest.
Tricky Nicky Saban also had the advantage of paying his players before it was legal to do so...That is how he got all those 5 star recruits...He got out the minute everybody else could do it and it was out in the open...I was never a Jimbo Fisher fan but when Tricky Nicky called A&M the best team money could buy he had the perfect response...
You can't deny Allar's talent and ability to make any play out there...My problem with Allar is between his ears...He always seems to shrink when he needs to come up big...Some guys rise to the occasion and play their best in the biggest moments of the biggest games...I think you are born with that ability...Either you have it or you don't...I just don't think he has it and that is why I believe they should move off of him...I don't know the kid so I am just going off of gameplay...I am not basing this off of one game or even the one throw...He just hasn't shown me the ability to play under pressure...That is my thoughts and opinion on the kid...
Personally I think winning can be learned, people just don't "have it". Tom Brady didn't have "it" in college, he just kept working and getting better.
Patrick Mahomes? Go look at his record in college. Not great. Always came up short againt better teams.
People said the same thing about Peyton Manning in college, never won the big one. Of course he eventually did... twice.
Tim Tebow? Oh.... he had "it". What a "winner". Of course, he kind sucked in the NFL save a few nice moments.
McSorley is often the battle cry of a "winner" for you guys. He did nothing against OSU and we won because of a blocked FG. I guess he gets credit. After beating Wisconsin, name a big game he won. 2017 - OSU loss. MSU loss. 2018 same thing. He gets credit for Wisky and Washington in the bowl game. Allar apparently gets zero credit for beating top 10 teams in the CFP.
Always an excuse so Allar wont get credit. Illinois? They suck. Boise? Lightweight. SMU? They aren't really a power 5 team.
IMO people are subjective. With McSorley and Clifford they see only the wins, with Allar they see only the losses.
@roaminglion what we see is 0-6 against the heavyweights!
He is 2-5 vs top 10 teams. Same as McSorely was.@roaminglion what we see is 0-6 against the heavyweights!
Where did you get this BS 0-6 number? Oh yeah... I forgot, a lower ranked Ole Miss in an opt-out bowl game counts more than beating a top ten team because..... "I think Ole Miss is bigger because their name is Ole Miss"
