I'd like to say the defense was OK even good. They scored a TD and put us in FG position on the second INT. Give the D 10 points. By my accounting they accounted for 10 points just like our offense. Now lets be more honest, the W offense is average at best. I'm guessing they dropped 5 balls, numerous penalties... TOP was equal and our defense folded on the last drive. FOLDED even after Wisconsin was penalized and backed themselves up to the 10? Defensive line didn't get much pressure but most passes were quick, one sack by Rojas. Lets not get to excited about the defense.
Offense? If you want to call it that was offensive. 12 first downs total. Four or five in the second half. It seemed to those watching that we had identified a RB by then. Peoples had 67 of the teams 114 rushing yards and averaged 4.8 per carry with a long of 9. Nobody else was close. Our wonderful TE Room had 36 yards, 4 catches by Brahmer. Rocco did not find another TE all game. Sowell had 70 yards and I think he caught everything catchable. Had he turned up field and gotten the first down at the end of the third the game might have been different. Instead he got smashed 18" short. We faked we were going for it, ran out the quarter, talked about it, faked we were going for it, wasted a TO and punted. The last play of the third and the 1st play of the 4th may have been the turning point. Rocco 12/29 for 114 yards, 3.9 yard average. Had 4-5 knocked down, underthrew 2-3 open receivers long, probably 10 points worth? 31.2 QB Rating is pretty bad. Not sure he was seeing open receivers, locked in? He choked, the 'most experienced QB in the BCS'. Maybe not good experience? Different environment and it can get worse.
Preseason I think I predicted 3 +/- 1 loss. After today I'd take the over. Looks like a rebuilding year not an Indiana year. So be it, we were scrambling to get a coach and assemble a team.
Rocco isn’t the reason we lost the coaching staff is. James Peoples was averaging almost 5 yards a carry and when we needed to run the ball and grind the game down he was on the bench but regardless of that Rocco Stepped up in crunch time and hit 87 in the hands with the football and he can’t make the catch, he choked plain and simple. But the bottom line is Jim Knowles Jr can’t get the defense to put the game away in crunch time and let them score to beat us. Penn St prides itself on defense and an average QB at best they let drive the ball down our throats to get the winning TD. Rocco didn’t have a good game but he did step up when the game was on the line and we didn’t catch the ball.
We also need a punter! Stop the RB by committee shit and keep People’s in the game!
#4 had 2 balls that he should’ve caught one would’ve put the game away and the other earlier hit him in the chest both passes together would’ve been 70 more yards passing and the 87 drop would’ve added 50 yards for the win, we just can’t catch the dang football unless it’s a perfect pass. Catch the got dang football man! Smh
So Rap had the chance at the game winner in the end zone. How much more did he play? I didn't know he was playing. So we have one TE (Brahmer) that made 4 catches for 36.
