@roaminglion he also was playing with back-ups and I’m not sure if the other teams had their backup defense in. He is the backup so I’m pretty sure he’s pretty good and imo he’s looked dam good in mop up duty. 1-16 on 3rd down what have you got to lose? Sometimes good QB’s sit behind Good QB’s. Sometimes you gotta take a chance just to see. I’m not calling for a QB change but when you see it ain’t working and it ain’t going to work and you have a different kind of QB that’s very mobile give him a chance. Just my opinion
This is called second guessing mentality. "1-16 so what do you have to lose" Well okay, but no one knew it would be 1-16 at halftime when you make the change, so that just proves you can read stats at the end of a game and second guess the decisions.@roaminglion he also was playing with back-ups and I’m not sure if the other teams had their backup defense in. Also... "Sometimes you gotta take a chance just to see. I’m not calling for a QB change but when you see it ain’t working and it ain’t going to work and you have a different kind of QB that’s very mobile give him a chance."
Basically you said "I'm not calling for a QB change but yes I am" - at least own up to it.
Last question: Do you think people get better as they practice and age? Just wondering. Because I know a lot of people like pointing out "OMG see how good that kid is why was he sitting!" like it's some big conspiracy that coaches don't want to play "better" players. You know... it could just be... that those kids who sit a year or two just weren't ready and needed the practice to get better. Then when they got in, you know... they were prepared and... well... READY.
I meant D-Clark not MROB.
for the Ohio St game Roam. I’m not calling for a change the rest of the season because we were 6-0 and big picture Allar is our man because he is the starter for a reason. Moreli was struggling against A&M in the bowl game Joe finally brought D-Clark in off the bench and it paid off. Sometimes a change is good. One thing I know for sure half way through that second quarter, you could see we weren’t going to win that game with Allar and you got a different athletic QB sitting on the bench that might could’ve got us a win but there would’ve been a QB controversy and James Franklin imo doesn’t want a QB controversy. I see exactly what’s going on.
It is clear that the PSU defense is loaded with top talent and some of these teams don't have the talent to compete against this defense however they seem to be prepared every week and have a reasonable scheme and possess the ability to make adjustments...The offense on the other hand doesn't seem to be prepared, have an idea of what they are trying to do offensively nor the ability to make in game adjustments in spite of having top tier talent...They have a 5* QB, top tier RB's, an above average OLine, above average TE's and serviceable WR's...This OC has done less with more in my opinion...The 5* QB has in my eyes regressed since the season began...The offense has no imagination...To be fair I don't know the dynamics of the situation in the room and by that I mean I have no idea if this is Franklin dictating some of the tenants week to week with the offensive playbook or if this guy has free reign on the offense...Whoever is responsible for this debacle needs to be fired immediately...To be totally honest I have never been a big fan of this guy and if he was such a tremendous OC I don't think OSU would have let him walk after 1 year nor Texas for that matter...I have seen enough and totally understand why OSU and Texas showed him the door...PSU should do the same ASAP...
@southern-psu-fan Nah, you dont see.
If you believe Franklin would rather lose then explain or deal with fans calling for a backup QB then you are out of your mind.
College fooball it littered with QBs who had terrible 1st halfs and got better.
One final thought...Allar is a fine young QB...I don't believe he is being coached properly nor being put in a position to succeed...That is on the coaches...I don't give a rip who you put in there the results are going to be the same...Just my opinion...

@roaminglion I didn’t say he cared what the fans think but for sport’s reporters he does. Did you see him jump all over the dude about throwing the ball up and the way James Franklin reacted? The truth is we did throw the ball up for Gisicki to go up and get and we also had a few stud WR’s that McSorely would throw the ball up for them to go up and get. I don’t remember saying James Franklin would rather lose either but I’ll go back and check. Well from what I gather from you james Franklin doesn’t have any confidence in Pribula because the QB play was as just flat out bad Saturday. It’s just one game and I’m not doom and gloom on the season I just like see kids getting a shot when shit is on the line to show what they can do. We still can win 12 games and that’s the goal.
@the-funeral-director He looked better and showed glimpses of greatness last year in his limited playing time. This year he showed glimpses of greatness for a couple minutes in the WV game but the rest of the season has been a head scratcher.
I'd say if DA is stinking it up at Indiana, then PB outta get some meaningful playing time, otherwise the Kid is either going to get it together quick or get shell shocked.
Just read where James Franklin said it wouldn’t have been fair to Drew Allar to put Pribula in. I guess he’s got his reasons. Big picture, put this game behind you and take the frustration out on Indiana and get back to winning. That’s all we can do baby.
I couldn't agree with you more Homer...The kid has regressed and I put that on the coaching staff...I haven't heard anything negative regarding his work ethic so I think he is putting in the work...I can tell ya his footwork the last 3 games has been bad...He has developed happy feet and isn't really planting and stepping into his throws properly and that is why he is off...I don't know who is responsible for his throwing mechanics but whoever that person is needs to get with the program and get this kid straightened out or he needs to be fired along with this OC...They should hammer Indiana this week...I wanna see em against Maryland on the road and then Michigan at home...Lets see what kind of gameplan this OC comes up with...If this offense plays like they did last week they are gonna lose both of those ballgames and depending on who they get in the bowl game they may lose that one as well and end up 8-4...They better right this ship or the recruiting bonanza they are on will quickly turn into a recruiting bust as these kids go elsewhere...
@southern-psu-fan Hey Southern, I think it would have helped #15 to have watched from the sidelines for a couple of possessions. If #9 got hot, let him stay in the game. If not, send #15 back in after having had a chance to clear his head.
@rip I appreciate your confidence and unconditional support. However, I consider myself unqualified for nearly all facets of those positions. While I am familiar with the topics of leadership and behavior modification, I am much better equipped to be a minor advisor / consultant and not the actual primary position holder. All things considered, if they ever need a smart-ass, I might be the right guy for the job.
Do you think you could handle being the coordinator of our new sign stealing program? If we want to compete against the class of the B1G maybe we should have one, lol.
Then remember...."Don't make a jerk out of me, just don't do it... just don't do it. Now I want to talk to you about Jimmy, you have to watch out for him. He's a good earner but he's wild, takes too many chances."
OK - I broke my hand last week, so I am typing one key at a time. If you ALL blast me, I will be reading your post, I just won't be responding to them....too much.
That was Allar's FIRST big time game, it was on the road, in one of the most difficult stadiums to play in and he has NEVER faced a team like that in his ENTIRE career. So I am not ready to bench him!! I am hoping THAT game takes Allar to the next level of his career.
With that said, yes, I think they should have taken Allar out in the second quarter and gone with Pribula for a little bit. Once Allar got sideways, there was NO reeling him in and MY and JF should have realized that! That was a low scoring game for the longest time and I think it could have come down to FG's vs TD's and this is where I think Pribula could have helped them with his feet. Singleton had two nice runs and then they abandon him and went to the pass....why? I am clueless on THAT game plan.
And don't kid yourself, if Egbuka was playing, Ohio State scores more than 20 points....we were very lucky! And I am basing this on our offensive performance. Ohio State's TOP was 9 minutes more than PSU and that is ONLY because we had one nice drive at the end that was meaningless and gave us some extra TOP.
I don't think Penn State OR Ohio State are top 5 teams. Yes, they have great defenses, but their offenses are average at best. I am not going to jump all over JF either. He has done a nice job, we are getting some nice bowl games and that is what Penn State is today. He doesn't think like Saban and Smart and he will never will. Look at Bama, they are slowly moving up in the rankings and Saban is putting that Texas loss behind him. Can JF do the same thing? I just don't think so. If he can some how pull off a win against Michigan and Michigan downs Ohio State, I think PSU snags the 4th spot in the Playoffs...and without playing in the BIG10 championship. And this is assuming he doesn't let the Terps or Rutgers pull some upset that SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN!
Penn State could have won that game Saturday and it was a shame how it all went down from the coaching side once again. They get a fumble recovery at mid field and can't move the ball. They have them pinned deep and give up a 71 yard punt. They go for it on 4th down at mid field and should have pinned them deep instead. This is just terrible!!!
GO State!!
I'll play Mt Nit, since you're disadvantage makes us on level ground; I'm not sure how you can put the 70+ yrd punt on the coaches shoulders.
They didn't put any pressure on the punter, they banked on getting the ball at mid field, so they should have had Hardy set to take a fair catch. He catches that ball and it is 1st and 10 on the 48 yard line. They laid off the punter to avoid a personal foul running into the kicker, so why not be conservative and play for great field position too by taking a fair catch? Hardy was looking down field, saw some running room and took his eyes off the ball. If he was directed to take a fair catch, that's a 52 yard punt and Penn State is in great field position.
Remember, this was a low scoring game, they were only down 4 when this happened. I know Hardy has run two back, but that was against UMass. If you are not going to throw down the field with your #1 QB in hopes of getting lucky or even a pass interference call, why take a chance with your punt return guy instead?
I just think based on the way the game was going, they had a better chance at getting a FG and getting within 1 point vs Hardy scoring a TD on a punt return.
GO STATE!
@mtnittanylion I’d like to know what the offense did that day for you to go for it on 4th down on your own 40 with 7 minutes left? Pin ‘em back and let your defense try and make something happen. Time to get back to work and go get Indiana and take it to ‘em
@mtnittanylion Yeah, I can buy into some of that or we can go with, Hardy screwed up.
