Rumors starting that USC is considering going after Franklin as HC.  No matter what he says or does, there will  be folks who won't believe him when he reaffirms his commitment to PSU.

I don't know,  it's possible . I think someone whispered in Franklin's ear to look elsewhere.  It wasn't a good year.

Why would you leave a team that could possibly play in a CFP6 bowl (3rd time) game to go to a team that their only way to a bowl game is to upset ND.  8-3 to go to 5-6 and leave all of the talent he has brought to PSU. No I think he stays put in Happy Valley. Just my humble opinion.

It's also possible that you that you know what you are talking about. But as we all know much like the Franklin rumor neither are true!

It would not be good for PSU if Coach Franklin left. Stability has been the hallmark of PENN STATE football. Lots of social media tough guys have been calling for Franklin to be fired. The silent majority of PSU fans like Franklin. I think he will stay. I hope so.

I don't believe Franklin is leaving but he could have squashed the rumors very easy by just stating that he's not going anywhere! Why the response about getting ready for Maryland?

So........Marilyn's spread offense isnt all that its cracked up to be??  And Marilyn wont be loading the box with 8 or 9??  Man, what a boring game this could be.  Of course, Marilyn could also be in for quite a licking come Saturday.

No way that logic was delivered by a Freshman - that is clearly Forum 401 level study right there!

I forgot to mention that our D could be probing that spread for all four quarters.  We're not even going to talk about moving the chains or getting behind the sticks.

Sure, he could have crushed those rumors... But why would anyone expect him to be any different than what he has been for the past four and a half years? It's a simple fact that everyone knows he only talks about the upcoming game, and never speculates about anything outside of that during the weekly press conference.

I mean, did anyone really expect him to answer it?

Yep! Just like Vandy! Wasn't leaving right up to the time that he did!

Ummm....yeah.  I would expect him to answer the question. As Penn State's highest paid employee, i would like to think he'd offer a less vague answer than what he did.  I dont see him leaving either, but going back to MB's comment; the people at Vandy didnt think he was leaving right up until he left.

We shall see.....

I get what you are saying and I am guessing the question probably caught him off guard a bit. Leave it to ol' wiretap Jones to stir the pot.

From a fan's perspective you want him to answer the question directly, say no I am staying put and end all speculation. We worry about what it will mean to recruiting, to players staying rather than going to the NFL, to transfers, to stability.  All logical things to worry about from a fan.

But from a coaches point of view squashing the rumors right away takes away leverage. Leverage to recruits that James Franklin is a hot commodity in the college football. SO hot in fact that even the great USC wants him. Leverage to get more money for himself. Leverage to get more money for his coaches. Leverage to get more money for facilities. Leverage to show fans that hey, you don't treat me a little better, I have other options.  Leverage to donors to step up and help keep a hot name in coaching at their university.

We are fans but to James Franklin coaching is a business and he must always be looking for ways to help the team. If that means not squashing a rumor so that he can get better resources for PSU than so be it. I have had the opportunity to meet James Franklin twice and he will look you right in the eye and tell you that Penn State is his dream job and I believe him. Does that mean he will never leave? Nah, he very well might take the USC job if it even becomes available. But I doubt it. James Franklin is always thinking of ways to make Penn State better and I see this as just another one of them.

Besides  if he did squash that rumor right away then we wouldn't have anything to talk about today since the majority of the threads are on this subject. So thanks James for looking out for the fans and giving us something to talk about on an otherwise boring Wednesday in the world of sports.

Nope, I expect him to answer it. I get that he doesn't answer questions like that, It doesn't meant that he shouldn't.

We're just using the word differently. Expect, by strict definition, means you regard something as likely to happen... not that you think it should happen. However it's also used as you're saying it, which is that you feel it is something that should happen.

So rather than argue over semantics... I get what you're saying. LMAO
