The Numbers
105 is the limit, I assume that is scholarship and non.
2026 class was 27 before JF left
2026 current HS recruits is 9 or 10, I read 2 PSU and 7 IS
Feb 4 is the end of the late signing period, I don't know what that means. I assume that is HS but maybe also portal?
Nobody is guessing at the total scholarships MC has but it must be 27-10=17 for the HS Recruits JF had, then say 20 ran out of eligibility (just a WAG), then you have roughly 30 enter the portal. That suggests MC has as many as 67 scholarships? That is 2/3 of a team. Can that be right? I can imagine he doesn't get a whole lot of new HS Recruits so that leaves a lot of portal hires and a big 2027 class. Maybe I am a bit over as JF had planned on some leaving when he recruited 27 but we are still at 55 available slots less Rocco and whoever else has committed? That is half a team.
My son told me we lost Amari Cambell to the portal? That stinks smh
Amare Campbell entered the portal this morning. Shortly after he tweeted “I won’t be undervalued”
Sounds like a money comment
He’s worth whatever I great LB’r deserves. He was good for us. If he’s being fair then be fair but if he ain’t. Bye
From tape, it looks like the safety coming from ISU is gonna get ate up in BIG play, hope not and we wil see.
I just hope MC can bench a dude when he needs to be benched and I hope there is a legit #2 that can step in.
I heard 1.2 million same as Rojas so if Cambell doesn’t think that fair then go see if you can do better
If he gets more than $1.2M from another program, program ain't got no sense; course we can say that about DA the past year, but he was never worth 3+M, IDCWAS.
@psu61 Think I have your acronym figured out .... I don't Care what ______ Says? Is the A for Allar? Didn't seem to fit in my eye. lol
For all those with concerns MC is bringing in a lot of ISU players:
Remember he was left with a pathetic recruiting class fir 2026. Not his fault, but he needs to fill the roster out and add a lot of depth. It makes perfect sense to go get players he has relationships with in order to make up for a lot of losses. I seriously doubt these are the only guys we will pick up, more are coming. A lot more.
Just watched Tengwalls Film Study on Rocco Blecht - after seeing this I am a bit more satisfied with him coming - I do see the upside of having him rather than Grunk. However, #26 of the Cyclones, RB Carsen Hanson, was "featured" in this highlight reel for becht dropping multiple passes - he is a 3* and also newly committed to PSU, not so sure about this one. I know we need to fill some seats and MC supposedly can build these guys up, but I would be happier seeing some more 4* guys coming rather than threes. I know it's too late for Christmas, but my birthing is in like a week, momma (lol) wants some 4 and 5* players!!!
@thechinreturns Hanson is an ALL Big12 RB with almost 1000 yards. Pretty good chance Quinton Martin is the starter next season and there’s very little depth behind him.
@psujoe Then maybe he isn't ideal for out of the backfield throws, he must excel at having the ball shoved into his bread basket behind the line of scrimmage. I think Tengwall will be putting up film study on him as well for me to watch.
Quinton Martin looked good in the bowl game against Clemson and Clemson has very good defensive players. IMO had we played Iowa St last year while James Franklin was still the head coach and DA the starting QB we lose that game. MC has already got rid of the biggest problem we had so let’s give the man a chance and let him build Penn St up like he did Iowa St and taking the best players off a good big 12 team and injecting them into the studs we already have at Penn St is making me love what I’m seeing. We’re fielding a 2026 recruiting class with quite a few studs that’s ready to start this year. I’m seeing us compete for the big 10 title next year because the schedule ain’t all that bad and the team will have plenty of time to jell by the time we play an average Michigan team on the road we find a way to win that game I’m seeing 11-1 in the big 10 championship game. Man I can’t wait for the spring game to see these dudes on the field I’m excited. 😁
Make it 15 former Cyclones on their way to Penn State from Iowa State.
Three-star defensive tackle Alijah Carnell will transfer to the Nittany Lions and coach Matt Campbell, he announced on social media Sunday night.
The momentum just keeps coming. This was a big get. This is a position that MC probably wouldn’t take if he didn’t think the dude can get it done.
I am going to stop with the betching as my friend Homer would say...LOL...I am going to take Roam's point of view...If Cignetti could win with James Madison recruits I am sure Campbell can win with his Iowa State guys...It also appears that the guys he is bringing in are his top flight guys and not the fillers...He also managed to hang on to several of the highly regarded PSU guys so I am beginning to be hopeful again...
one last thing...I want to give this guy a fair shot because by all accounts he is a great coach and a great person of high character...He deserves the benefit of the doubt before I call for him to be nailed to the cross...LOL
We need defensive linemen. The 'Talking Heads' opine we need to go big. They seem to define big as 320-330 not 290-300. I am left wondering is 10% more that big a deal on the line? I mean I am 180 and I don't want to wrestle someone 196 but our wrestlers wrestle up 10% to fill spots. It seems easier to play DL with a 10% disadvantage. Surely a strong 300# DT with good speed can hold his own against a 330# heavy DT? DT's get double teamed a lot. Anyway the attitude is that JF Defensive Linemen got pushed around. Apparently there is no substitute for speed...accept weight.
Gotta have mass, huge difference between 290 and 320 plus, especially when 320 plus has good cardio and strong core.
With CB being a position of need it’s hard to believe we let Williams from ISU get away.
I guess it is like everything 61, all other things being equal the 320 guy wins over the course of the game. All other things being strength (core), Speed, Endurance...
I just wouldn't avoid a 290 stud with speed. But I get it would be nice to have a few big boys to rotate thru.
@underlion Like pounding concrete w/ a sledge hammer. Swinging 12 lbs for the 1st 15 min isn't bad. After that, it starts getting heavy.
By the end of the game, the weight difference is telling.
