I’m seeing a lot of iowa St players in the Transfer Portal last few days. I hope we keep Grunk because I believe he’s the better QB and you could see the improvement in the Clemson game after having a couple weeks off and the dude will only get better. I don’t mind bringing in the Iowa St QB as long as there’s competition at the position. I’m not worried one bit about Pribula or the Iowa St QB taking Grunks spot because ain’t either one of them better than Grunk. It’s just what I believe today.
I heard the Tengwall dude say DA couldn’t be benched making 3 million a year. What does that mean if a QB regardless of the team can’t be benched? I guess that’s the James Franklin mentality because I watched Kirby bench Carson Beck and I’ve watched Slick Nick bench a QB in the NC game because he wasn’t gettin it done and that’s why James Franklin was hopefully fired for. Players have to be held accountable or you end up with a first half of the season like we had this year. It ain’t only Tengwall I heard say that homers man Zach said the same damn thing 😂
Find it hard to believe they "couldn't" bench anyone vs a way of saying you don't sit your million $ players. But I'm in the hey, if you aren't getting it done, don't care what $ you have coming in, get your ass on the bench.
Hard to bench a $3M 5* Sr in the year you are supposed to be in the top 4. Especially when you have given the backup no meaningful snaps.
Especially when he is doing what you want ... not throwing into danger ... except to end the game. Tangwell made the same comment about Grunk that I/we made numerous times about DA. He would not throw the ball if the receiver was close to covered. And against top teams our receivers were always 'too covered'. It was like his mind thought 'don't throw an INT, No INT, Joe says only three things happen when you throw, two are bad, No INT'.
Maybe he thought the Pro's only looked at TD/INT ratio. Maybe he kept hearing "establish the run". It was rather obvious and it should have been possible to coach him where to throw to eliminate the chance of an INT and get some PI's. His PI/INT ratio was horrid. ANd since he never threw a to tight coverage, when it was crunch time he didn't know what it looked like.
But since JF couldn't coach him up and wouldn't bench him someone benched JF. That is how it is supposed to work.
My nickels worth, since we don't use pennies anymore, Grunk is probably gone. I hope I am wrong, at least that's what I am told every day!

Nothing stopping Grunk from entering the portal now. So hopefully a good sign, though I am certain someone is telling him what he is worth in NIL if he leaves.
I really hope we aren't giving Pribula the bag that is rumored, Grunk would probably see that as a sign he isn't starting
What we do with QB is a big comment on MC. If he keeps Grunk it suggests he is comfortable looking longer term. If he brings in a 1 year QB that seems like short term thinking which may suggest he thinks he can make the playoffs in year 1. Can Rocco or Beau do a bit better than Grunk next year? I guess. We may be a bit too excited about Grunk at this point. If your offense depends on a running QB than Grunk is not your man, is he?
@roaminglion you know I’m big on having a running QB but I’m just as happy with a pocket QB if he can throw the dang ball down field. Roam, I’m telling ya now, Rocco or Pribula will not be better than Grunk September 5th 2026 trust me on this and the dude has 3 years to play, develop one of our freshman QB’s for the backup position jmo
We will never know Southern, once you pick one road you don't know what the other held. We will have to trust the guy we just hired to figure it out.
@underlion I usually don’t get attached to players because I want the best dude out there that gives us the best chance to win and from what I see today that’s Grunk but I’ll pull for whoever the QB is. Gotta give MC time to get things together but that doesn’t mean we can’t discuss and debate stuff lol
I like what Tengwell said about Rappleyea, something along the lines of, if that dude walks into a dark alley at night, he's the one who's gonna leave the alley. Gotta keep him.

Seems that Defensive Line is the biggest potential weakness right now, still don't know that we have starting LB's returning. I expect we will have one serviceable QB. Now that we have a DC we should be able to shore up the DL and LB's. I'd like to assume the defensive players will tend to stay with 3 letterman coaching D.
Grunk gets to decide to compete or leave. He is not next years DA. NIL$ suggests value but does not guarantee playing time. Pay and performance are not connected. Pay is related more to expectations/potential.
@underlion let me ask and I’m not accusing any coach of anything I’m just trying to figure out how this nil money works. Let’s say a coach has his guy even though the writing is on the wall that another kid might be better so the coach won’t give any NIL money to the kid that’s not his guy just get the kid out, is that how this works?
Southern I have no idea how this works. I would suppose that a player is to keep his moth shut about his NIL deal so as not to hurt the team. Clearly if Grunk heard that Rocco was getting more than he knew he was getting it would be a signal. DA's number seemed to get out. I suppose Grunk has feelers out seeing what his market value is. But say South Alaska is offering him $500k, the reality is he has started 7 games and beat the teams he should have beat with a great rushing attack. He will likely not know the other QB's NIL$ until after he comits for the year but I suppose there is another portal. What school is going to guarantee he is the starter? If he is a team player he wants to be at PSU or with JF at a competitive NIL # and feel he has a FAIR chance at starting. Now JF did not give him a fair chance so I'd propose he says if he feels he is getting a fair shot and fair market NIL. Does he want to stay in the region? MD has UA$, Rutgers has SHI$, Michigan/MSU, WVU?
Seems the OL is returning and the backs are good, TE's are good, if Rocco is coming can you trust MC and his OC to give you a fair shot? And the team should be better in MC year 2 and 3. Crap shoot isn't it? It is a multimillion dollar decision for a guy like Grunk and his information is sketchy.
