I know it's subjective but still.......PS not making the Top Twenty!! Were not talking about making the top five or even the top ten. This is the top twenty that PS didn't make! I guess BO'B and Franklin weren't lying when they said that they need to update the facilities to stay competitive with the top teams in the country!

I would say it was pretty obvious for anyone paying attention. Though we have some amazing facilities on the drawing board... Sanctions really put them on the back burner
The money being spent on facilities around the country is excessive.

The money being spent is not coming out of academics pockets, it's coming from donors.

First, philosophically it doesn’t make a difference where the money comes from. Spending money frivolously in order to attract 17-18 year old kids to a football program when many academic departments are underfunded is ethically questionable. Second, not all the facilities around the country are financed via private donations. UCF & Rutgers are 2 programs where public funds were utilized for building stadiums. There are even some colleges that use student fees to partly fund scholarship athletic teams. But maybe the goal is to provide a fun environment for students and alumni to get drunk at tailgates. I don’t think athletic programs that attract a lot of interest contribute to world peace or the search for a cure for cancer.
Yes, it does make a difference. People get to spend their own money how they want, not how you want them to spend it. If they wish to fund a football stadium, your opinion on it doesn't matter. You don't get a say, it isn't your money.
As for the exceptions, yes their are a few. As with anything else. In those cases you could argue that funds could have been spent elsewhere. However, if someone is donating $100 million dollars, guess what? You don't get a say in how they want it utilized.

What's "pretty obvious?" And what do the sanctions have anything to do with alumni contributions?
Sky... what I find ironic is your constant harping about academics and how college athletics is terrible, yet you seem to come here and follow the Penn State football team with just as much enthusiasm as anyone else.
if you really thought student athletes were being taken advantage of, why would you continue to watch them play?
Sky, if you don’t think academics is a priority at Penn St, then you haven’t walked across campus recently. Academics is front and center on that campus.
Seriously, does someone piss in your corn flakes every morning?
And if you want to get political, take it somewhere else. We all have a common bond here. It’s Penn State and football, wrestling, basketball, etc. The quickest way to divide us all is to get political. You have added some political posts in the past as well, so this isn’t new. Don’t ruin this message board.
But Sky, you and I are in agreement. The spending on athletic facilities is ridiculous. I would add coaching salaries and pro salaries also, but that is a discussion for a different day.

Northwestern, Stanford, Oregon, Alabama, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, etc. etc. etc have all built new and dramatic facilities in the past ten years. That is what I meant by obvious, but we certainly aren't the only school to fall behind in that category.
As for sanctions hindering donations, of course it would... Mainly for PR reasons. All of those other schools either enticed a big donor or had huge fundraising pushes for the facilities. It would have looked extremely bad to get sanctioned and immediatly gone into a fundraising drive for football facilities.

I am gonna assume some crazy posts got deleted
