This sucks, I feel after watching that game we truly lost it ourselves. Not to take credit from Minnesota, but we beat ourselves with help from the refs. The PI calls are truly maddening, considering they were blatantly called different from both teams.
Offensive PI: Their WR runs horizontally into Brisker before the ball arrives, injures him, and no call. Our WR runs straight down the field and.... PI? Okay.
Defensive PI: Their WR isn't really hampered by Reid all that much, and the ball is un-catchable. Okay, I could stomach that if earlier in the game a DB hadn't destroyed Hamler before the ball got there while his buddy then picked off the pass.
Anyways, after the game I'm gutted but optimistic. 1. It's a young team and the likelihood we were going undefeated was remote. Now we can play with a chip on our shoulder... I felt we came into today overconfident and it bit us on the azz. It's all still there for us: We win out we are the Big Ten champs with 4 huge wins over highly ranked teams and our 1 loss is to a highly ranked Minnesota. Not a bad resume, they'd put us in.
Aside from bad passing from Clifford early on and TOs, at least we quit the RB rotation for the most part. My hope is Cain gets healthy by OSU and we see him and Brown share the backfield. Done, no more Slade... he again failed miserably in pass protection today.
Another note --- I'm beginning to feel like Fleming was actually a big loss, because Shorter is starting to look like a real bust. Just not making plays we he has the opportunity. If this offense can find a tall receiver like Godwin to be on the other side, we will reach another level. But Shorter NEEDS to step up for that to happen, I don't see anyone else on the roster capable. Dotson is a good receiver, but not a deep threat tall guy.
We can beat OSU, and if we do this Minnesota game will be a distant memory.

Beat Ohio State? They got Indiana to contend with first and don't think this is a cake walk! I think they lost their starting QB, but thier back up is fairly good too!

If we can't beat Indiana this is all meaningless anyway, but you are right we certainly can't overlook them... we did that today and lost.
Agree except that the rainbow ball on the one interference only fell about 18" OOB, it was catchable. But the other 4 Interference/Non Interference calls all went MN's way. And two were game changers in the last 2 minutes for sure. So if you say there were 5 potential Interference calls, 2 were called and both against us.
Clifford throws off his back foot a lot, he does well for as often as he does it. Both he and the O-Line can help with that.
We don't have a superstar RB, we've been spoiled, maybe next year. Some will move on. Godwin was something. Throw it up and he got it. Hamler is actually a good receiver, he catches the ball in traffic and he uses his body well for a small guy. I remember our TE a few years ago couldn't catch a cold an the next year he caught everything ... NFL. Shorter can turn it around. But yes we could use the rebounder that Trace had. Blitz me I dare you.

IMO losing Sanders was even bigger than I thought. I think James Franklin knows it too and that’s why we are so pass happy. Hopefully Cain can get healthy and be back for the Ohio st game. With Cain playing we are a top 5 team without him top 15 team. I’m watching LSU and their RB don’t have any bigger holes to run through than ours do but he hits the holes with power and breaks tackles and gets 5 yards when he should lose 2 yards and that’s the difference in good RB’s and average at best RB’s. Bookie was a HUGE loss.
Win next week and go from there. One game at a time. We didn’t play our best today we can all agree on that. Hopefully Minnesota wins out. I like coach Fleck and what he has going on up there. But we need to handle our business.
I think it's a bit craZy to say that the running backs were the reason we lost when our running back had 130 yards and 2 touchdowns.
we lost because Clifford had the worst game of his career, coupled with our defense playing the worst game of the season for them. plain and simple
I’m leaning more on the defense, especially the secondary, having a horrible day.
On an opinionated note...that whole row the boat thing is sappy. I hate to say it but the Minnesota kids have bought into it.
If (and its a big if!) we win out and Minny wins out, we should get a rematch with them in the conference championship game, right?
Because of the 1999 season and what happened to Penn State after the Minnesota game, losing to Minnesota is unacceptable!
Bad RB play shows up when you can’t run the ball inside the 10. Boobie or Barkley would’ve destroyed Minnesota today. When you can’t run the ball it’s hard to be consistent on offense and it’s been a problem all year being consistent on offense. We need Cain back to beat Ohio st.

So what, they're gone and they're not coming back. Lots of teams can talk about how they would have been better if former players had seven years of eligibility but they don't
I know that I’m just giving my opinion why we lost. Getting Cain back will fix the problem. I want Cain back it’s impossible to get the other 2 back.
Anybody believe in karma? Or maybe it's just coincidence that today's devastating loss happened on the anniversary of the BOT firing JoePa.
So it is bothersome that Sanders left? I guess after Barkley I didn't think he was all that. Just perspective I guess. He is performing in the NFL. We should have a sophomore or junior behind him. Stars will leave for the $, they don't come for the education and you can get an education at 25.
It would be nice to have a great RB and Brown had several good runs and over 100 yards. Our O-line was unable to run the ball down their throats with Sanders and Barkley. Barkley had lots of runs for a loss. Pass and receive we win today, one call we win today, cover receivers we win today. About 4 things had to go poorly and they did. Same thing Alabama is saying right now.

Interesting. This will be like Philly never winning a championship after they built a building taller than Wm Penn?
We shouldn't play on the 9th again. 119, 911 backwards
I’m not superstitious bob lol we lost because we have a couple of weaknesses and they got exposed today but I do believe we’ll bounce back next week. Hopefully Cain will be ready to go. I’m hoping his injury ain’t that bad but we’re still good enough to win 10 or 11 games though
The obvious weakness was our DB coverage and large MN Receivers, We knew that was the challenge. The match up was not good for us so after 14 days it is disappointing we didn't do better. The defense gave up too many yards, it turned into a shootout and the offense didn't cover for the defense.
I suppose we will need to play zone against Fields also. That matchup will be a challenge, Fields will need to have a bad day. OSU has good receivers and a good RB. Balanced they are.
I've been saying all season that our secondary sucks and it was only a matter of time until their play came back to bite us in the butt. Our secondary has been our weak link all year and today it was exposed.
Agree! Is it coaching or player?
As I said before, we beat the next three teams on our schedule this loss simply won't matter.
I was thinking more along the lines of the curse of Babe Ruth that haunted Boston after the Red Sox sold him to the Yankees, LOL!
Winning always cures heart broken pain lol. I just hate it we’re out of the playoffs picture but the Rose Bowl will be awesome
