With the increasing use of the portal etc. its seems to me the portal is going to be a way station for So/Jr and graduate players looking to upgrade. For example a kid who really wants to play major D1 ends up at a 2/3 tier program; develops into a solid player, sees his chance to go bigger and jumps in the portal; major coaches take a look and pick the players that fit. I think players will see the portal as another option and will more readily go to 2/3 tier schools for immediate playing time and then move on if so desired. Talk about a farm system within the system; the portal is prime and it will be interesting to watch this play out over the next several years.
I think it’s a good thing as long as the players have to sit a year unless the player has graduated any other reason you sit I don’t care what the situation is because if you don’t teams like Ohio st will get favoritism
Seems like the playoff teams have yet to get involved and the advantage right now goes to non playoff traditional powers when it comes to signing the guys that want to enroll in January.
@southern-psu-fan No one will have to sit once the new rule goes into effect.
Don't like it one bit. Just my opinion. Anyway, a Happy, healthy and prosperous New Year to all fellow NITS.

Why don't you like it?
Yeah I think this will be an immediate play situation no wait. And I agree, the the Bama's, OSU etc prolly wont be too involved except for players jumping in to get playing time somewhere else; that's not a bad thing for a player especially if recruited for one system then that system gets changed and the player no longer fits. No different than going work for an athlete. The day of the "student athlete" is gone or at least on the fast track out. I think the threat of valid law suites got this ball rolling.
I don't really care to be honest, it's a situation that has been in effect for almost every other sport. Athletes were always allowed to transfer without penalty, except for "money making" sports. IMHO that's not a good enough reason to tell kids they can't transfer and play when everyone else can.
All I ask is all teams are playing by the same rules

HEY KOZAK!! You're using a line from my avatar Mr. Horse from the cartoon Ren and Stimpy show...."No sir, I don't like it, don't like it one bit".
Seems as though players can portal any time they'd like. Maybe I missed it, but I'd like to see there being a "Portal Season" if you will. Maybe 6 months, from January until June. That way "kids" will know where they're probably going to be on the depth chart, yet still have a chance to find a new team before the fall practices start. After that you can portal, just have to sit out that season.
I guess I'm indifferent at this point. On one hand I would like to see the commits stay committed but on the other hand its an opportunity for the Cincinnati's and Coastal Carolina's of the world to pick up 4 star talent when the Ohio State's, Clemson's, Georgia's and Notre Dames of the world over recruit.
I'm with ya Lake, don't mind players trying to find a good fit. It just gets a little more complex if someone wants to change teams during the season, particularly if there's a chance they'll be playing against their original team during the season after they've got the playbook memorized.
