I just don’t know what to believe anymore because the virus has got so political. I just think we need to protect our sick and our elderly people and do whatever has to be done to do that. Is the 23 trillions in depth not an issue? How can we keep borrowing money in the trillions with the government shut down because don’t the money have to be paid back. If the government is shut down that means not near the money is coming in, right? The math ain’t adding up to ole southern here unless I’m missing something. I’m still on the side of Dr Fouci because he is the best and that’s who I try to listen too even if he has back tracked on some thing. Maybe he back tracks because he’s learned something new with the virus makes since to me.

Sorry to hear this Navy...My prayers are with you and your family...This is one hell of a vicious and virulent virus...I have seen first hand this virus's handiwork...I know the area where I practice has been the hardest hit and most effected so I have a far different take on things but my fear is this thing is gonna hit all over the country as it is an airborne pathogen...The manor by which this virus is passed from person to person is what concerns me the most...I am not here to quibble or argue semantics with anyone...I sure as hell don't have any agenda accept for this to stop and for people to stop becoming infected and dying...I know what the CDC and they NYC Health Dept. is telling us...I am basing most of my opinions based on the information they provide to me...I hope they are wrong and that I am wrong cause if they are right at least here in the NYC metro area we are in big trouble...Once again Navy you and your family are in my prayers...

@navylion

Wish you and your family the best and I will definitely keep you all in my thoughts!  I am still practicing the Social Distancing for a Humanity reason and because I spend a lot of time with my in-laws and parents who 80 are years old.  I am working remotely in Florida right now and I am surprised at the number of folks who are NOT practicing anything down here....just blows my mind.

Hope all goes well!

From what I’m seeing in what Murray is saying is we have 330 million people in this country and we’ve had 2 million cases and a little over a 100,000 to pass away from the virus. We have a vaccine for the flu and have had 61000 to pass away so is it that much worse? I do understand that any loss of life is heart breaking. How many of our loved ones would die if we didn’t have a vaccine for the flu? I personally believe the flu is worse we just have a vaccine for the flu

1) Seasonal Flu deaths are estimated ( and NOT reported the same as Covid 19).....Covid 19 are CONFIRMED

2) During a typical peak week for the seasonal flu, deaths are apprx 750 per week.  During the month of April, Covid 19 was apprx 15,000 per week.

3) This is a NEW virus and our bodies do not have the antibodies built up that we need to fight this like we do with the seasonal flu.

4) Covid 19 is NOT a seasonal Flu

5) The Flu vaccine, while not 100% effective, helps protect us from spreading it to others.  On average, one person will spread the seasonal flu to .9 to 2.1 people.... Covid 19 is apprx 2.1 to 2.5 people.

6) 2017-2018 was a bad year for the Flu....61,000 deaths.  We are apprx 4 months into Covid 19 and we are double in deaths.

Do whatever you want, BUT I AM WASHING MY HANDS AND WEARING A MASK!

Stay safe Southern!  Need you on the forum when football resumes!!

No offense to anyone and everybody is entitled to their thoughts and opinions. I am gonna give you numbers. We are currently over 42,000 permits in the 5 boroughs of NYC right now. Last year there were about 52,000 permits issued for the 5 boroughs of NYC. This isn't the flu...I also want to point out what I feel is the most absurd statements and thoughts that I have heard in quite some time...The only reason why we have more cases is because we tested more people...Seriously...So if we don't test anybody then we can say nobody died from Covid-19? Listen...If people want to open up the country and play sports again and fill up stadiums and ballparks more power to you...Just understand what's going to happen as a result of it...But to say that the only reason why we have so many cases is because we are testing for it is just ridiculous...I don't care much about politics as I believe they are all lying crooks and disease and death isn't a political thing...I can tell you with 100% certainty that the number of Covid-19 cases in NYC and the metro area were UNDERCOUNTED and by a lot for the simple reason that early on they didn't have the tests available and I am also 100% certain that I embalmed Covid-19 cases as early as the middle of January...Before the 1st phase of this disease is finished making the rounds around the country there will be over 200,000 people dead from this thing and the 2nd wave will be far worse...I also want to point out that the test themselves are severely flawed and are prone to false positive and false negative results...My honest opinion is we won't be able to go back to "normal" until we have a proven vaccine to counter this thing and I don't think we see that until April/May of 2021 if we are lucky....

i  understand what you are saying FD but what would the numbers be with the flu if there was no vaccine? I don’t really ever get sick so I’m pretty confident this virus won’t take me down but I do keep safe and try to do what Dr Fouci says. Something will take this ole boy down but i don’t think it will be a virus. Again now I do what Dr Fouci says if possible

I believe the estimates are usually something like 5000-10,000 more deaths per year without the flu vaccine. Also flu related hospitalizations would be something like 50,000-100,000 higher.

Don't quote me on those numbers, I am just basing it on what I have heard/read in the past about estimates.

The point is that there is NO vaccine for Covid-19 and that is why it isn't the flu...As I said this won't be over until there is a viable safe and effective vaccine for Covid-19...I am very concerned about the fall and winter...

My hopes are that Moderna gets it done quickly, as they should be entering a large 30,000 human trial for their vaccine in July. So far the early studies of their vaccine show a lot of promise, though I realize that doesn't mean success. Fingers crossed

@the-funeral-director

So here is something to ponder on for a while.  A very good friend of mine is a major donor at a top 10 University.  As of today, their first game of the season will consist of two family members of each player, students and school staff....NO DONORS as of today.

I am not going to mention the Universities name, but they will be ranked in the top 10 or 15 to start.  Now I ask, does anyone with common sense think Beaver Stadium will be rocking 100K plus for Kent State? Heck, I am just hoping there is a PSU vs Kent State game at this point.  As long as we have knuckleheads running around claiming this is some kind of conspiracy or nothing more than the common flu, enjoy more replays on TV this fall!!

Wear a Mask and wash your hands!!

I just read an article on the Jerusalem post that the virus is weak and it could die without having a vaccine. I’m hoping the heat will kill and it does look like it’s losing it’s bite. Doesn’t mean ain’t nobody goi g to get it but the numbers are way down and the deaths have slowed down big time but again that doesn’t mean somebody won’t die from it. I’m waiting on my wife and daughter getting a tag for my daughters car so yes I have time to read something on google lol

@southern-psu-fan interesting, since Thursday we have 4 new cases where I work! 2 right next door to my building and 2 40 miles across town at Mayport Naval station. Doesn't seem like it's losing it's bite to me!!

Sadly Navy it is running through Florida, Texas and Arizona now...My prayers are with everybody in those states as I know what is in store for the people who reside in those states and it won't be pleasant...This is far from over and sadly my gut instincts tell me this ballgame is still in the 1st quarter....

"I know of no school for which Penn State has interaction that is planning to fill stadiums. And in fact, at most they're considering a very reduced number of students. So for example, electronic ticketing, no cash, different sanitation procedures, social distancing" - President Barron

Obviously Murray needs to have a little chat with Barron, because he doesn't seem to know it's over or that stadiums are all going to be full.

@the-funeral-director Quick update from Jacksonville. Jun 16 Naval Air Station Jacksonville had 15 confirmed positive cases of COVID on the base. That does not include patients at the Naval Hospital, that only includes the Sailors and Gov workers. Yesterday it was reported that there are 77 confirmed positive COVID cases on the base.

I report this from my telework location in my house. Yea, Navy lion ain't going to the base, Navy Lion ain't going to a football game or any sporting event nor is he going to Disney World for quite some time!!!

Call me scared, call me stupid, call me whatever you want. I like to think of myself as an astute risk manager...

I second that...I can only speak from my experience here in the NYC metro area...Respect this thing cause it is real and it is deadly...You play around with this thing at your own risk and that risk may cost you your life....

@the-funeral-director You know FD, I get it, I am a provider and need to be around but, the thing most important to me is I would never be able to live with myself if I brought it home to my wife or girls or God forbid my 3 year old precious grand daughter. Plus, if by chance I go down and my sister goes down my elderly parents are screwed so I really have no choice but to play it safe!!
