Maybe it's cause I am living in the New York City Metropolitan area and have the occupation that I do but I am skeptical. Nobody wants things to get back to normal more than I do. I miss the Elks lodge, sports and going out to dinner. My personal opinion is that we will not be back to normal until there is a vaccine for this vicious virus. I am 100% certain the football season will start on time. Schools will open as scheduled and the normalcy of life will return in the next 60 days or so. The question is will it continue through November, December and January? If you asked me to place a bet on that right now I would say no. I hope to God almighty that I am wrong and you guys can poke fun at me and call me out on it. I will smile the whole time and nobody will be happier than me but I got a bad feeling about this thing moving forward....

I think you hit the nail on the head FD. Up in this end of the state, where "cows out number people" we've had 2, that's two, deaths from covid. Both of them, I believe, were older than I am and also had other issues. You're probably a little hyper sensitive and we hicks are a little hypo sensitive.

I do know I was in dire need of a haircut, mean while our governor was on TV every day and his hair never seemed to grow a fraction of an inch. (must be he's really good at cutting his own hair?) And he's great for telling the police and protesters they need to wear a mask, "It's the law." Yet when he and Mr. Sparpton, et al were on TV the other day, none were "social distancing" and not a one of them was wearing a mask...go figure.

I agree.  This isn't disappearing overnight.  I'm happy things are moving forward.  I said earlier that I'm not getting high Hope. If this spikes in September or October we will be back to square one.  I think this might drag on for another year.  Not as bad,  needs to run its course.

Met with a UPMC director yesterday at first HS workouts of the summer. Said, and I quote "if we tested for the flu today we'd see the same results. States are testing WAY more than 30 days ago.  The antibodies stay with you for months.  You could be sick in March and test positive in July.  Deaths are down, hospitalizations are down and covid isn't the same virus it was 2 months ago".....He even said they have been told they don't need the masks at the hospitals unless they feel uncomfortable.

50 days ago texas was testing in 15 counties, this week they are testing in over 200, hospitalizations at pre covid numbers.  Same with Arizona.  I've relatives there that said they did nothing about covid, was like it didn't exist. Then 3 weeks ago they started testing everywhere.  Now there's "a rise" in cases.......in nursing homes...

One person tried to pin South Carolina with the "bad mojo"..."hospitalizations there have reached a dangerous 67% capacity" ........THAT'S THEIR NORMAL. NYC, same deal.   Their peak was over a month ago. They are now at below normal numbers of deaths due to lack of activities that normally cause deaths like driving and construction.  HOSPITALIZATIONS due to covid are down nearly everywhere to early March levels.  It's all info that can by found by digging and not listening to the MSM...Sorry FDC, you may still be a bit shell shocked, but this was Cuomos fault to begin with by A. leaving subways open and B. Shoving people back to nursing homes. The chart doesn't lie.  Theyve seen several days since June 4 with no confirmed covid deaths ....

106566873 1591365040281 20200605 NYC covid daily deaths

I've said it before, and i'll say it again, this is over....we are on the back end.  Even people like Barron have acknowledged that things are changing and easing rapidly, what we see today may very different or gone in a week. They know, they know the virus has weakened and changed.  College teams have kids testing positive, but they aren't sick.   You see the political side on the news, I hear the truth on the backside.  The "precautions" you see programs taking are for the press, to make people feel more comfortable and to ease the fear.

MILLIONS have been "protesting" together for weeks, with no significant spike at all. none.  Here's the reality folks, and I lived it yesterday.  People were absolutely SHOCKED to see kids working out together without masks.  That's due to the fear and false-education on what's really happening. People need to get back to seeing crowds as the norm, not a shocker.

We will have full stadiums, we will have normal seasons, we will have covid deaths.  You can't stop a virus.  80,000 people died of the flu in the winter of 2017-18.  that's just 40k less than current covid numbers in 4 months.  and most of those are among elderly with other issues, many of which would have passed soon.

Get used to it folks....normal will return.

@southern-psu-fan haha I'm with ya brother! I was beginning to wonder if I was gonna be one of those old bald guys that still has a pony tail.

I stand corrected on the 2 crona deaths in Cayuga Co. One was a 40 yr old, the other was a little old lady that according to the Syracuse paper, survived the corona infection, then died after she recovered. Interestingly she is still listed as a corona causality. I get the feeling they numbers aren't quite what I would call reliable.

Another interesting example, friend of mine had a brother get killed in a motorcycle accident, autopsy showed he had the virus. Yep, according to my buddy and I don't have any reason to doubt him...but he might be confused, that death was also listed as a corona victim.

"The antibodies stay with you for months.  You could be sick in March and test positive in July."

Those are two different types of tests. An antibody test shows if you've had the virus, not if you currently have it. The other test would not show a positive result if you no longer have it.

So I'm not really sure what you or he meant by that, but it seems like the insinuation is people would be showing "positive tests" as if they still had COVID months after being sick. That's not how the testing works. Antibody tests don't come up as active cases, the CDC actually took a lot of crap weeks ago for initially counting them in error among all testing.

@roaminglion      look it up Roam, not hard to find....they are discovering many who were sick months ago that still test positive....again, this is from someone on the front lines......there are also many false positives being counted....and as pointed out above, many deaths attributed to covid that just arent.

Yet again you change the argument. I didn't saying anything about false positives, and neither did you. You stated that "antibodies stay with you for months, You could be sick in March and test positive in July." The obvious insinuation was that those tests were showing people were COVID-19 positive.

All I did was say there are two types of tests, one shows that you actively have it (DNA from virus is present) while the other shows you did have it in the past (immune response antibodies). So testing positive for antibodies does not add to current cases. That's litteraly all I said. I wasn't arguing about anything else you stated... at all.

As for being "on the front lines". My wife is the ICU and Trauma director here in Oregon. She also just happens to be enrolled and currently studying for an advanced degree at Johns Hopkins... virtually working directly with some of the same people running JMU's COVID response and data tracking teams.

And as for why some were still testing positive, it is because they were finding DNA fragments (dead or non virulent) of covid-19 in their swabs... not from the antibody tests.

The false positives from that test was not what I was commenting on though, but it may surprise you that I actually agree with you... it is a problem. Many healthcare professionals are now starting to agree that retesting people who have already had it is something they should not be doing. It leads to more panic and they are finding that even though the test positive, they are not contagious.

I've said it before, and i'll say it again, this is over.... Interesting statement. Just an hour ago my 83 year old mother told me my sister who has a husband who is wheel chair bound with advanced MS got a call today from his Occupational Therapist and she informed him that she was just diagnosed as COVID positive, she got it from another patient and he and my sister need to get tested ASAP.

To compound the matter, my sister who also cares for my 83 year old mother and my 81 year old father with advanced stages of dementia need to get tested cause my sister is either at their house or they at hers daily.

Doesn't seem like it's over for the Navylion family! WTF??? FML!!!

NL,  Sorry to hear that brother.  Keep your head up, stay strong, and you'll yet again weather this storm.

Interesting comment I read above. "40k less than current covid numbers in 4 months.  and most of those are among elderly with other issues, many of which would have passed soon."  What kind of asshole makes a comment like that??

A 91 year old prisoner is sick near my home town.  Not sure with what.  They tested him for Covid 19.  No results yet.  If he has it, what does that mean?  Should we all run and hide?  Maybe cancel the season for 20 year old super athletes.  There really aren't enough 91 year old prisoners to do a valid study.  I'm so confused.  Where's my mask?

I just passed over that one. Basically because the flu in 2017-2018 killed 61,000, not 81,000... AND it's comparing people just going about their business in 2017-18 and people social distancing, wearing masks, and basically shutting down the entire economy for 4 months.

To even try to compare those two is beyond ridiculous. One had no prevention measures whatsoever, the other had massive prevention measures and still was double the worst flu season in the past 10-20 years.
