If Blake Corum is out next week, I don't think Michigan can beat Ohio State w/o him. Regardless, we need a close game to happen between these two teams and then the winner to win the Big10 and not allow the West to be even close in the title game. If this can happen, you almost think the Big10 gets two teams in the Playoffs and Penn State is off to the Rose Bowl.....assuming they handle Sparty next Saturday.

I can't see a 1 loss USC jumping either Ohio State or Michigan.  USC lost to Utah who now has 3 losses.  Ohio State or Michigan will only have one loss and that will be against a top 3 team.....they will be ranked 2 and 3 as of this week.  Clemson?  They DO NOT have a win over a currently ranked team, both Ohio State and Michigan do.  The shipped sailed for Clemson when they lost to ND.

After yesterday, Penn State had a reasonable chance to make the playoffs this year.  We can signal Clifford out for the two losses this year, but it wasn't Clifford....the offense in general was the issue.  HOWEVER, the defense has turned it on - and YES, they have turned it on.  That shut out of Maryland LOOKS VERY IMPRESSIVE after what we saw Maryland do with Ohio State yesterday.....IMO! As for the offense, a slow start yesterday but once they got warmed up, they got warmed up!!  ALLEN AND SINGLETON will be the BIGGEST dual threat RB's in the Nation next year! I am hearing Parker Washington may head out early, but if not, this should be one of the MOST POWERFUL offenses in the country next year. ALLAR is getting some playing time, hopefully more this coming weekend.  He will have a nice schedule to begin with in 2023 and by the time they play Ohio State, he should be well on his way!!!

Penn State is going to be serious contender in 2023!!! Win out this year and they could very well be ranked in the top 4 to start next year!! Got to be impressive wins the next two games!!!!

GO STATE!!!!

I’m not going to get all giddy about being ranked in the preseason top 5 if it happens and hope we’re not even in the top ten.

There is absolutley zero chance of us making the playoff this year.

I can't see a 1 loss USC jumping either Ohio State or Michigan.

They will absolutley jump either OSU or Michigan. They would have ended the year beating 3 straight top 25 teams, and OSU would have only played 3 all season, let alone in a row. Also, if USC is convincing against ND then the committee would have that to compare with Ohio State struggling against ND. Michigan? They played 2 ranked teams all year.

USC? 5 ranked oppenents and 3 in a row to end the season. That would easily vault them past whoever loses between Michigan and Ohio State. That said, I think USC will lose one of their remaining 2 games.

Clemson? Yes, I believe Ohio State would stay ahead of them. Especially since Notre Dame beat Clemson and lost to Ohio State. Michigan though, that's a toss up. Clemson may move past Michigan if they both have 1 loss, because Michigan's schedule was god awful outside 2 games.

Can't happen.  Only the SEC is allowed 2.  2 SEC teams and 2 B10....nope.  Not fair.

@roaminglion I also think USC will lose one of it’s final games and if OSU stomps meatchicken picking the 4th playoff team could be very interesting.

Speaking of god awful schedules we need to do something about our OOC games of the next couple years or we’re going to get screwed out of a playoff spot

@psujoe i agree just playing WV ain’t going to cut it. Should’ve got Pitt along with WV that would be respectable. Just WV or Pitt ain’t good enough. I’d like to see more SEC teams.

i agree roam, we have to probably go undefeated to get in the playoffs especially after looking at the rankings today. Man the 12 team playoffs can’t get here soon enough I’m tired of the bias garbage rankings.

No Kidding!! LOL.  Read the post again! Penn State had a REASONABLE chance had they only lost one of those games vs Michigan or Ohio State.  I feel pretty confident that if Penn State was sitting at 10-1 today, with a loss to either Michigan or Ohio State, they would have a REASONABLE chance of making the top 4 based on the rest of the fields records.  Just like a 1 loss Michigan or Ohio State will have.

I am fairly certain that none of us here REALLY thought Penn State would only be a 2 loss team TODAY based on THAT opening game vs Purdue. All I am saying is Penn State had the lead in EVERY game this year and won 9 of them. To me, it is REASONABLE to say Penn State had a chance to make the playoffs.  I am sure you can probably say the same thing about a couple other teams too.....I just didn't go that far to look up how close the other 1 or 2 loss teams did during each of their losses.

GO STATE!

Look, none of this will make sense when it is all said and done. You and I could beat this until the cows come home.  I doubt very seriously USC would beat either Ohio State or Michigan.  Both of these teams have TOO much power and that is why the didn't lose to Maryland and Illinois yesterday (in those close games) and why the both beat Penn State!

GA, Ohio State, Michigan and TCU are the best teams in the country and they are playing like the best teams in the country.....44-0! If they go 47-1 next weekend with THAT only loss being to a top 2 or 3 team, they are still the best 4 teams in the country!  IMO!

GO STATE!

If Penn State was undefeated any of the last 10 years, they would have been in the playoffs! PERIOD. Their OOC schedule would have never kept them out of the playoffs. And had they beat Pitt in 2016, they would have been in the playoffs with 1 loss.  PLUS, we don't need ALLAR facing some top 10 or 15 team in the first few weeks of 2023.  I don't know what Illinois has coming back next season, but they are enough for ALLAR to start with until he finds his groove! And don't overlook WVU too much either.  They might have a losing season, but they are from horrible.

@mtnittanylion the odds of going undefeated are slim to none no matter how good we are which is why the out of conference schedule should not be loaded with powder puff teams like our schedule is through 2025. A one loss PSU team will lose out on a playoff spot to a team with a tougher strength of scedule PERIOD !

  • @psujoe   Exactly Homer! Look at Clemson and they get more respect than Penn St. gotta do better on OOC games. Clemson might sneak in if they win out.

One thing I do know is Penn St can go undefeated and get shafted for the NC and can win the big 10 and beat Ohio St on the field and still get shafted to get in the playoffs under this rigged chit we got today. I’ve seen this with my own eyes. We need a 16 team playoff system and end the season for all the other teams. The best team is in the top 16 probably the top 12 but with 16 we get a real playoff system.

Really?  Furman and Louisiana Tech are great OOC games for Clemson?

When was the last time a one loss Big 10 Champion was sent packing in the CFP? ZERO.  In fact, Ohio State didn't even win the BIG 10 in 2016 and still went with one loss.  And THAT loss was to an unranked Penn State team at the time. Sparty went as a 1 loss Big 10 Champion.

Penn State had 3 OOC games this year.  Just Like Clemson, they had two bad teams and one HISTORICALLY good team in Auburn.  How would they know Auburn was going to be a BUST the last two years when they scheduled them?

The issue is not the OOC games. There are not enough Big 10 teams staying ranked in the top 25 every year.  That is the biggest problem I see.  Penn State won 6 of their Big 10 games and not one of those teams were in the top 25.....pathetic! And on top of it all, the Big 10 championship game is most likely going to have a #2 vs an unranked West division champion....unless they just rank one of those teams to make it look somewhat ok.

The Big 10 needs to produce more ranked teams.

Nah, Penn State doesn't have to go undefeated to get in the CFP. In 2016 we barely didn't make it at #%, and absolutley would have been in with 1 loss. Had we beat OSU in 2017, same thing... we would have been in. In 2019 had we beat Ohio State we would have been in there too.

A 1 loss Big Ten champ has never been left out.

Penn St will never get in with one loss if USC, Clemson, Ohio St, Michigan, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Texas, LSU, ND, Oregon, Nebraska, Miami or Oklahoma have 1 loss so that means odds are we have to go undefeated because usually all these teams have one loss and we ain’t gettin in over these teams.

If we have one loss and any of these teams have one loss you can for get it roam we ain’t gettin in. Go back and look at the undefeated teams the goat Joe Paterno had that got the shaft and look at the teams that got the NC over Penn St. ain’t shit changed and it won’t change until we get a 16 team playoff system. There’s a reason the shitheads have fought a true playoff system for so long. I can tell you are 44 or you would’ve seen what I’ve seen 😂

If USC has one loss, Oklahoma has one loss, Alabama has one loss, Clemson has one loss and Penn St has one loss the big 10 would get left out. Ohio St and Michigan would get in over Clemson but we wouldn’t. This is why we are saying Penn St has to be undefeated to get in.

That's just no context rambling. Schedules, who you lost to, who you beat, all matter. It just seems easier to blame a cabal of shady people for our CFP absence rather than our coaches and players. We havent been good enough, thats it. Stop blaming others

@roaminglion If it’s nonsense please show me one time where we ever got the nod over any of the teams? I can easily show you where Penn St didn’t ever get the nod

@roaminglion  1968, 1969, 1973 and 1994 are years we finished behind Texas, Ohio St, Nebraska. In 1973 we finished 5th behind ND, Ohio St, Oklahoma and Alabama the same teams I told you and 3 of ‘em had a loss or tie so it’s not nonsense. We didn’t then and we won’t now ever get the nod over any of these teams…period and 1994 proves that!
