Kansas and Iowa St would add little to nothing to the B1G. That doesn’t excite me whatsoever.
@psu61 You may be right. But the B1G would get major additions with UVA basketball, lacrosse, and baseball. I would assume that basketball is the big attraction with UVA. Regardless, it’s a very good academic institution with a medical school, etc. I have to admit, I’d selfishly like to see the addition. I have family about 45 minutes from Charlottesville and that would be an away game I’d love to go to. It’s a beautiful area.
Big rivals of Maryland too

Kansas is a huge addition in Basketball. Premier school in that respect. Iowa State would bring in huge research $$$ which might even surpass athletic $$$

Meh. Still a no for me. I really don’t follow basketball and isn’t Kansas typically a one and done bball factory anyway? Aren’t they a little shady too? When have they won the championship last. Not trying to be smart, I seriously don’t know and am too lazy to look up. Iowa St will not sustain the football success long term. They are a pretty good wrestling school, but besides that….meh. I’d prefer the B1G make a hard push for ND and Pitt. Just my personal opinion. I get your point on research but millions of people don’t tune in to watch research on Saturdays in the fall.
@lionbacker99 I’m with you 99 Kansas and Iowa st depresses me thinking about it lol
ND and Pitt would make the conference better in football and that’s what this thing is about anyway, that’s why the SEC wants Texas and Oklahoma. I think we should play Pitt every year anyway and it would be fun to play ND every other year if not every year iowa st and Kansas don’t get me excited at all lol
I never knew or even thought about Iowa St and the level of research the University is involved with, I thought it was just some small school that simply existed.
I see mb337 is in the house baby. Hope everything is good your way buddy.
@psu61 lol Small school that simply existed? You talking Rutgers? Their wrestling program too a hit the other day when Suriano hit the portal. He still hasn't found what he's searching for.
@been-there-ii that dude is a great wrestler but man is he a drama queen or what? Lol

Kansas won the title in 2012, and have also finished as runners up twice in the last 20 years. When is the last time a Big 10 team even won?
My point about research dollars is the Big Ten makes a ton of money on research from its institutions. If you really care about "people tuning in on Saturday", why Pitt? They can't even fill their own stadium without us... They would add nothing in that respect. Both Kansas and Iowa State get more viewership when you take basketball into consideration.
Iowa State is better than "pretty good" in wrestling. They are a blue blood program.
FYI - Rumors are now that Kansas and Iowa state have already set up a call to discuss big 10 membership.
Don't get me wrong backer, Kansas and Iowa State aren't exactly my first choices either. Just saying they aren't terrible additions.
To be perfectly honest, if I had to take 2 schools that are "up for grabs" per latest rumors... I'd take Virginia and Notre Dame. Those two would be my dream additions of who is potentially available. Though I think UVA has a really big hurdle to overcome in their ACC contract.
ND brings with it... well... everything. Heck, You could just let them keep their NBC contract and work out a deal where their games are still televised. Who cares for the time being. As for UVA, Lots of advantages And I'm wondering if the big 10 could give them extra money to cushion the blow of breaking their acc contract?
As for Pitt? Eff em. Don't care, they screwed us back in the 80s and feel no need to help them now.
@roaminglion Adding Kansas and Iowa St just makes the big 10 that much worse in football but if we get the 12 team playoffs it probably won’t matter. As for the other stuff that’s way above my head so I trust what you say on that I’m sure it’s very important stuff for the conference that I don’t see.

See my previous post that I'm guessing You didn't see while writing your current post. I agree, they aren't exactly my favorites... I would much rather UVA and Notre Dame

on the blue and white wrestling board they were talking his motive might be the opportunity for NIL money since there isn't much opportunity for a $ career after college. It appears he is headed to Arizona State or Ohio State where he might have his best opportunity for that. There is also talk he might return to Penn State but I don't see that happening. He would really help out next year and his former PSU team mates really like him but I don't think Cael would take him. Just my opinion.

Good points Roam. I include Pitt for a few reasons. Geography, upstanding academic institution, our old rival, etc. They also have pretty good basketball and wrestling teams. Their wrestling team could probably elevate to a level it has never been to in the B1G. I agree with you, I’d be perfectly happy with UVA and ND. Let’s be honest, if the B1G only admitted schools because of research, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, etc would be shoo ins! Seriously though, money is tops in the list, followed by tv exposure and competitiveness.

I’m pretty sure Suriano’s old man burnt a lot of bridges. He comes with a lot of baggage wherever he lands.
